syracuse looked soo much cleaner and nicer with the canal running through it...more picturesque....sadly now it is just another shithole full of trash that most of us are dying to...screaming to...begging to get the hell out of!!! I grew up on Midland Ave in the early 70's. It was pretty ok back then...but now with guns and drugs and all the young kids with too much free time on their hands ...well the whole damn city has turned into nothing but a giant roach motel..there's no saving it now!
It's amazing how many of those old buildings, like the savings bank, City Hall, Hotel Syracuse and others are still around today. Some are gone...but a lot more of 19th and early 20th century Syracuse has survived compared to other cities like Rochester, which seems to be under frequent periodic reconstruction.
I lived in the cuse for twenty five years. Great town. These are nice pictures. Very interesting to see how the canal ran thru the city. There seem to be many grand buildings that have passed. I love Syracuse. Great video.
I live in Syracuse and I love the old photos. Where did you get these from. I have always wanted to frame some and hang them around the house for a bit of culture.
@dcj991 Guys, read what I wrote through before you comment back! The kid said now the (key word) CITY is just a ghetto with a mall. I said it actually doesn't have a mall meaning again key word city not having the mall. You are referring to carousel mall. I am well aware that when all construction is done it is going to be something in the top 10 biggest malls. I know there is shoppingtown mall and great northern not to far from the city but again he said CITY.
@cunnidvd As a matter of fact I am not no drugs and there was no need for that comment. You said now the (key word) CITY is just a ghetto and a mall and I said it doesn't have a mall. That is true the city doesn't have a mall like I said. But there is carousel, shoppingtown and great nnorthern in clay.
Yeah, it used to be a good city until the late Mayor Lee Alexander got his greedy hands on it - for years! Alexander was convicted of kickback schemes related to city building contracts, if I remember correctly - spent about 3 yrs in prison. He was disbarred from practicing law, and when he was released, he eventually died of cancer.
Great pictures..well done. Too bad that city is a ghost town today. Just like Bingo, Albany, Buffalo, etc. Time has passed it by. Good place to go and die. Go Orange!!! Otto is a god!!!

They're both a shell of their former self now. Sad.
What's Syracuse's population down to now? Gotta be below 70,000 or 80,000....
banther1972 2 years ago
@banther1972 140,000
