I saw The Clash live in Sydney, Australia in the 80's, this song live back then was one of my most memorable moments in the gig. The gig itself was awesome, 3rd row seat right centre, the Capitol Theatre, Sydney. One of if not the best live show I have ever attended.
@Soldier500 Joe and Paul would "switch" guitars.... so Paul would not have to "carry" the song and could concentrate on his vocal... Joe would work the bass-, and Mick would/could cover the other two. Pretty cool!
I appreciate your perspective on shootings in the US and their resemblance to the wild West of centuries past. I agree London Calling is a classic album; in fact I consider it one of the top 10 rock albums of all time. I appreciate the lyrical theme of "Guns of Brixton", but generally it's not musically interesting to me. It seems closer to rap than rock and, except for a few songs, I don't like rap. Just my personal taste, however, not trying to diss anyone else's likes and dislikes.
@poopologist96 It's reggae, right? One of the Clash's musical influences, as was early hip-hop on the classic songs Radio Clash and The Magnificent Seven. How can u love the album London Calling yet disregard the band's musical influences? To each his own, I suppose. Brixton, I believe, was and is a predominantly black section of London so Paul's lyrics are from the perspective of the Jamaican men living in that area just as Eddy Grant's classic "Electric Avenue."
I enjoyed seeing Paul Simonen get his turn in the spotlight with his "Guns of Brixton" song, even though it's one of my least favorite songs on London Calling.
@poopologist96 I think it's an excellent song on a classic album. It's funny though, when he talks about "you can crush us, you can bruise us, and even shoot us" like a cop shooting someone. In my country, the good ole U.S. of A. that shit happens literally every day. A cop kills a civilian or a civilian kills a cop. In some inner cities the Wild West is alive and thriving. Gangbangers taking dope spots, bangers killing each other by the thousands, and being shot by the police.
@poopologist96 I think it's an excellent song on a classic album. It's funny though, when he talks about "you can crush us, you can bruise us, and even shoot us" like a cop shooting someone was rare. Fridays was one of those comedy troupe variety shows that had some of the most original lineups regarding musical talent and comedy routines. If my hunch is correct, Michael Richards of Kramer fame on Seinfeld was an original performer along with Melanie Chartoff and Joe Mahler and the guy who played gange man.
Forgive me, but it was Bruce Mahler, not Joe Mahler. There was Jack Burns who narrated the show and introduced the musical guests with Darrow Igus playing the gange man, Maryedith Burrell, Mark Blankfield, John Roarke and Brandis Kemp in the ensemble cast.

I think Joe does a pretty good job on the bass. Paul played guitar on this mainly because he had trouble playing bass and singing at the same time. I think it's cool how hard hard Joe plays when he is not singing versus how little he plays when he is.
Mick was the best! Mick and Topper were the best musicians. Joe was the wordman and Paul was there for his looks. But Mick played a freaking awesome guitar, wrote all the music, and arranged and produced it. Plus I think he's cute.
He did of course. Look at his later stuff. In fact, he was kind of mad about the fact that people accused his bad teeth on using crank or speed as that junk makes your teeth fall out. He said that it was neglect and getting some knocked out in fights. As Joe said to Johnny Green "always wear shoes that are good for running, and good for fighting."

GoB is a leftist revolutionary song about the discontent for the "heavy-handedness" of the police, the recession, and other problems at that time.
The song pre-dates the 1980s race riots in Brixton (check out the web).
