  • I salute your effort. I suggest however, that you consider pruning when dormant. Pruning in growth retards future growth. Pruning an apple tree is maintaining a balance between vegetative wood, fruiting wood and pleasing structure. You would find pruning much easier when there is no leaves, so you can see what your doing. You did open the tree, and thin it out , which generally is desirable. I suggest your timing be adjusted. If you need advice look me up.

  • I think you did a great job. You really opened up the tree which will allow sun light and air to reach the entire tree. Getting rid of all the excess limbs like you did is really going to produce some great fruit spurs!

  • Brian don't let them get you down lol... I guess some people forget the purpose of fruit tree's... May have been alot for the tree's first time but no worries. I bet you had a blast and as you said... it was your first trimming. Good job :)

  • It's one growing season later and the tree looks great with broad branches and bearing large apples for the first time. YT is full of naysayers just enjoy the video for what it's worth, [entertainment] and don't hate on my apples :^)

  • Uh, ya I agree w/ the two commentors below. I think it looked better in the "before" shot.

  • prunning apple trees isn't about looks, it about making space and encouraging the tree to focus on growing health, large fruit.

  • Hey, glad it worked out for you. In general, they recommend not taking that much off in one year.

  • never trim agin call a pro

  • Dont quit your day job
