The Sword is Reserved for Warriors of Japan(Samurai) but any Mercenarie could purchase one if he had the money so... the Katana is a more Reliable Blade for its Durabilty and Speed,

@brotherhoodz97 Thats what I like to do is put matchlock on some high ground, I see allot of people not using them the best way and putting matchlock in lines infront or on the flanks which doesn't have much effect but if you place a melee unit on the bottom of a hill and place a matchlock on top they can fire down into the masses fighting your melee unit.

Why would I pick Nanban Matchlock mercs. over Matchlock Ashigaru or Samurais? Both of them are better armored & able to take a slight punishments before they dropped. These goons die after shot by an arrow.

But contains little to no reliabilities than shoot. They're useless when they ran out of bullets. I can still use matchlock samurais to curb archer ashigaru. Also Matchlock ashigaru to support katana samurais in a blob & they can do just fine. Not these 1 hit drop dead

I am looking at efficiency. Why would I pick them over Bow ashigaru which has longer distance, higher rate of fire, more reliable in melee, & more importantly, able to stay alive longer. Those things, bow units & normal matchlocks units can also do that too. Not even thinking about flaming arrows upgrades you'll get after you've unlocked them.

if you would be low on money,under attack and you needed troops fast would you :

a)start collecting money to train higly expensive units just because in the long run they are better than cheap units?

b)cry and run in circle

c)quickly buy a punch of cheap units to repel the enemy attack off

Actually, I did read, but here. Why bother fighting many fronts or using money cheats? You can get away with diplomacy most of the times anyway. Why do you need a clusterfest of huge armies all over the place? Shogun 2 tax system sucks but come on, you don't really need mercs. when you have petty peasants don't you? Cheap? Well ashigaru are cheap. So the ONLY benefit to these drunken fodders are cheap then?

Maybe to you, but to me, nah. Yari ashigaru can take more punishments than these guys. Ok, matchlocks hiding in the castles are devastating, but keen bow samurais or horse archers can pick them off with no problems at all. Hell, gunners can't even shoot up the walls. Ashigaru are also cheap, & quick to train. Unless you're playing as a Christian daimyo. More so, I don't even need to horde taxes to get heaps of golds, no cheats too.

@Bayliss27 Portugal did bring katanas back to Europe and other parts of it's empire during the early discoveries, and Japanese mercenaries were hired and fought all over the world too, some even lived in Lisbon. The Japanese language has about 200 Portuguese origin words and the Portuguese language has many words of Japanese origin. So there was a lot of trade.

In it you take control of the "European traders". You start with 1 black ship that carries 2 European cannons, 6 Nanban Matchlock Mercenaries, and 2 katana wako. Your first Mission is to capture at least 1 town in 5 turns or else you loose.

If you pass you can play there rest of the campaign like normal except a few things
