What I like about this story is that it seems almost like an epilogue to his mythos stories. The mythos in his other stories( like Call of Cthulhu, Dunwich, etc.) sort of has rumblings that the end is sort of inching slowly toward us, but here the end has been blown wide open in a gaping abyss and is swallowing us up even as the narrator tells the story. In making a Lovecraft anthology, I'd stick this story at the end of the book.
As much as I love this, you should add some low music in the background, athmospheric that is. Hearing the same voice constantly for 10 minutes gets abit dull. Only a preferance from my part though, none the less - keep it up(Y)
@GirLuffer I've been criticised elsewhere for using what has been described as a monotone, but 'emotionless' is exactly the effect I am looking for. I love reading HPL out loud and that's how I interpret this kind of story. Thanks for listening :o)
So what is Nyarlathotep brainwashing the people in the room turning them into his followers? Are they seeing things that have not yet happened but see the world what it will be? Are the flutes sirens when a city is being attacked? Is the city he is in devastated by war? I read Lovecraft when I'm asked to but when it comes time to discuss the work the people who told me to read it can't seem to talk about it. Come on guys let's talk about why it's scary?
@soulhunter59 This is, in my opinion, is Lovecraft's most horific story by far. It is also one of his best pieces of writing; I feel his ideas are better than his somewhat ponderous writing a lot of the time, but not here. It's short and sweet and not too overblown with adjective. There is not enough scope in Youtube comments to adequately discuss the story but if you PM me I will be happy to, when I have some free time to do so (it could be a while before I respond, which i apologize for).

Have you tried the superb books by Robert M Price: 'The new lovecraft circle' & Ramsay Campbell, "Tales of the lovecraft mythos" & "Ashes & others H.P. lovecraft & divers hands". Another excellent book by R. M. Price is, ' The reason driven life '
@NullspaceNomad It's something I've thought about but it's very hard work and I'm a very lazy person! I also make a lot of mistakes when I'm reading out loud - the editing involved is horrendous, so doing that kind of work for someone else wouldn't be very productive. However if I find a way of overcoming all these obstacles I'll definitely be up for it. Thanks for your comment.
@ZachValkyrie Yep, I was in the mood today! I think that's the first time I've ever made 3 videos in one day. More Lovecraft to come... unless anyone has any other requests?

Your voice is amazing - the "emotionless" sound gives it a serious, yet creepy vibe. Nice job!

@soulhunter59 For sure, the story is surreal and open to interpretation, which is probably why you get little response about it.

Nick, if you're not already a voice actor you really need to look into it...especially for audiobooks. You would rule...

The Outsider was always my favorite Lovecraft story- you should read that one, Nick.
The end really throws you for a loop.

Now that you've done this and 'Dagon' it makes me want to buy the resin statues of them (they'll look nice next to my Cthulhu statue) :)

@Gisburne2000
I'm really enjoying what you're doing at the moment.
Maybe other Mythos authors?
Your voice is so wonderfully suited to read Lovecraft.
If I really had to make a request: Rats in the Walls or The Cats of Ulthar.

I really got into this one, which is why the volume is higher than normal!
Big thanks to ZachValkyrie for suggesting I record it.
