you know, i didn't know layne personally but i cant help but feeling like i knew him and he knew me... that if we ever met, he could have understood me. and that's rare these days, that i can actually say that i feel a connection to a musician through his or hers music.

i still can't listen to any of the new AIC songs. i think that a death of a crucial member of a band is more than enough to kill this band. i respect Duvall, but, comparison to layne is inevitable, and that costs fans to AIC.

excuse me? pitchy? William Duvall in some of the performances I've seen goes off key a lot on the old songs. And I mean a lot. And its annoying. Layne was in a horrible state during unplugged and he did flawlessly. Of course, his voice was not up to par all the time, but that happens to every singer, not just Staley. Duvall is not void of this either, just look up I Stay Away AIC did with an orchestra, he sucked hard.

I think the reason I hate duvall, is because look who's shoes he is trying to fill. How can you go from one the best rock singers ever in staley. To guy like duvall who is honestly just a slightly above average vocalist.

People who think Duvall sounds great are tone deaf and or just can't admit he's not that good. AIC has a great legacy and made music that was holy.

BGW2B is an average album. and AIC never made average records. AIC is dead

Not knocking him but I saw them on the Facelift tour and the Dirt tour and saw them with Duvall last night and he was flawless. So to call him slightly above average is way off. Lane was always pitchy live, Duvall gave a great performance..

Listen to a version of Man in the box in 1996 , you'll see that he's voice was really really fucked up . He couldn't hit the high notes ... His voice was perfect in 1990 - 1993 . Then the 94 - 96 era fucked up his voice ..

Hes just like any other vocalist, he had his good shows and bad shows. I remember seeing a vid of man in the box from 91 and his vocals werent that great. It toke him years to finally perfect his vocals.

@williamduvallFTW Nah in 94 they didn't tour as AIC. In 94 his voice was still deep and not fucked up. His voice got higher and fucked ip in 95.. There are videos of Layne live 1994, but with Second coming and Tool he still had a sturdy voice. 95 bweas the beginning of his downward spiral.

Sure nobody will ever replace Layne or be as good as Layne was, BUT DuVall is doing a fucking brilliant job and he's not trying to imitate Layne and that's one of the best things about him. He's just himself. Sure we miss Layne but if you're a true Alice fan you accept that DuVall is now the singer. I mean there is a reason why Jerry, Sean and Mike chose him to be their new singer. And DuVall is actually a great singer. Will, you rock !

i gave duvall a chance too while still vehemently disagreeing with them about keeping the same name & it makes me sick, not only because layne's dead but cuz the band is dead. it's like a progression of jerry's solo career which wasn't very successful & mike & sean worked with him then but now banking off the AIC name they're successful. i'm afraid of the young people thinking the new stuff is AIC when it's so simply NOT!

AiC's Music was actually ahead of it's time IMHO. Miss Layne, but it's great they are touring again. Some are ripping DuVall, but true fans should give the guy a break. Just hearing AiC songs again LIVE is very comforting. Laynes death was terribly tragic, but somewhat predictable with Heroine addiction. RIP Layne!

I can't speak for everyone but I do it because he's not the right fit for AIC's original stuff live. I respect him for stepping in but had the original members decided to form a new band with DuVall under a different name of formed a tribute band then I might like him more but he just cannot sing Layne's parts well at all.

Doesn't mean to say he isn't a good singer, he really can be at time. Just not quite right.
