It would be useful to find out what Victor is getting the surface of the culm to, temperature-wise. If the culm would not dry out too much, putting it into a large solar kiln with an elastic forming jig and curve the culm more slowly. No danger of charring, and perhaps fewer failures since the temperature would be more uniform, not focused only on the inside of the radius.

Is there a limit as to how thick the bamboo can be? ie, could a piece perhaps 5 to 6 inches across be bent in this way?

@wingituk The bamboo should be around 2 " or smaller. As it gets larger it gets more difficult.
