If I was a composer looking for an interpreter for my concerto of epic proportions, I would go to her. She is a violinist meant for concertos. Her artistry has much depth and breadth and it is in the giant works like the Brahms that you really notice how she paints with so many different colours. I love how she makes subtle changes to phrases that are played more than once in a work- she has a head for that, just endless imagination and insight. Will probably always be my no. 1 <3
wow, the opening double stops are ferociously flippant...I haven't heard anyone else play them like that. interesting.... Her left hand is incredible and always has been - complete dexterity. Milstein has always been my favorite interpreter of this piece, with Szeryng coming in at a distant second. I had never heard KWC play it until now. The orchestra isn't great - the opening seems a bit sluggish. Thanks for posting this, it's good!
@theoceanave She recorded Brahms concerto with Simon Rattle and Wiener Philhamoniker in 2000 on EMI lable. You can look for a copy if you're interested her interpretation of Brahms.
Such beautiful playing, I used to listen to her when I was a kid, and I must say after 25-30 years- she still has that lush tone and dexterity and not forgetting her clear understanding of the music.
Thank you so much twofinedays! When this first came out, I was disappointed that she made many technical errors. However, after listening to it over and over again, I am fully convinced her artistry has progressed ten-fold since her younger days.
A fine entrance--though the brass section was just a bit too over whelming in the beginning. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful performance!
The part at 7:19 and on is sooo beautiful..!

@theoceanave There is a reason why she was called Asia's Witch.

@violinmusicfan I never knew that....seems kind of hard to believe though.

@theoceanave Apparently, she was given the nickname because of her "stubborn competitive spirit" and "shrewd technique".

After watching this then I can say that I am not a lover of this piece by Brahms .

I dont think other violinists are brave enough to play the introductory double-stops at such a fast speed.

She got more fiery as she got older. Her facial expressions became more vivid with age too.
