production refers to the beat, and without good production he's not going to make it to where he deserves to be. you can't get an audience without good production, obviously real underground heads probably would listen to their favorite mcs acapella but you should realize the vast majority of listeners buying rap albums buy it for the music. and you don't have to sell out to achieve that.
