most guitarist worth their salts dabble in everything. like chris broderick, he "shreds", plays jazz, classical, and pretty much anything. but regardless it takes years of practice and dedication to get anywhere in any genre of guitar, at least good ones. classical, jazz, metal, etc. diversity will always be the key to being a great guitar player, and not just a good one.

Segovia, Williams and Bream, the holy trinity of modern Classical Guitar. Sharon Isben was never a personal favourite of mine though. It's unfair to compare "bests" from any different genre as shredding is fundamentally different to classical in terms of structure, techniques involved and so on. I like both for what it's worth.
