In the beginning you are using thumb and middle. It would be smoother I think if you alternated middle and index with the thumb. Also, are you doing the flamenco tremolo? Perhaps using the classical tremolo in the piece would give it more movement and flow? Or does the piece specifically say to use p,i,a,m,i ?
@MrArsenioOro It's not as sensitive as I'd want it to be. I like the sound of it anyway and hope it'll change to lighter playing when the time goes by. Sometimes it takes longer to make a guitar "ready" by playing it. My guitar is made by my friend Reino Vanhatalo (from the north of Finland), and the name of the instrument is "Ahma-guitar".
if so its the first time I see a classical guitar player use their picky for picking hehe, good job, also I hear a nice melody there but I think the tremolo is doing it a bit too much, hehe just my opinion, can you do romance with that tremolo effect? :D
@odanfre I am not using pinky - when I started playing in 1970, I used it, but after starting guitar lessons in the music school I learned away from using pinky. Stepan Rak is using it - he was my teacher and introduced many techniques where pinky is handy. I think that it's important to practice it in order to make the hand muscles developing in good balance - even if you wouldn't use it much at all. That's what I do, anyway. Thans for your interest and commenting.
It's a nice enough piece, but I'm still trying to figure out what is 'impossible' about it.
It just sounds like normal tremolo to me. Sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Aside from a small handful of songs, the speed of tremolo is quite commonly altered during performance is it not? Look at RDLA...
@eschelar It's not at all an ordinary tremolo, The thump is plugging slowlier and faster, but tremolo goes on one tempo, that makes it impossible because it means that thump and other fingers should work independently. There may be slight differences on the tremolo tempo, but mainly the tempo changes are made with the thump. Try it!
@VegaLeyffinen now I understand better what you are trying to show. thanks for the clarification. I don't know if I would call it impossible but it's definitely tricky.
I have been practicing different arpeggio patterns (also with different thumb patterns) and it usually takes about a week and a half before I can do it comfortably. And that's with a pattern. I can see your point about independence.
@barzoman2 yes, if you look at your hand with your palm open towards you, the nail should be barely visible over the top of the finger. Unless your me and you like a little more length.
@barzoman2 My finger nails are actually shorter than most of classical guitarists due to my interest to 19th century guitar. Thanks for askin and sorry for answering soooo slooooow!
@Christos32xx Ordinary classical tremolo, which this is not, is difficult - not very difficult. Here I use certain tremolo, which is actually practically impossible. This is not flamenco tremolo. You can read about this "continuous tremolo" from my video texts. Thanks for your nice comment and a question.
Very beatiful friend, what is your tecnique for the right hand ? I'm sending you my tremolo Angelita, I use the flamenco tecnique p i a m i , I hope you like it !
@VegaLeyffinen ignore the haters because you, sir, are incredible. where did you learn to play like that and how long does it take to master that amazing tremolo? would love to see more on here
I've practised this a lot - it'll never get ready. I guess have started around 1980. Nobody actually really knows how to pactise it. Stepan Rak showed me different tremolo techniques during the time when I was his pupil several years in Finland. Thanks for asking and for your support!
Absolutely stunning! I practiced tremolo many years ago and moved on in frustration to other techniques and styles. Your video reminds me that tremolo can, with lots of work, sound so full with supporting notes and chords, it is well worth the time and effort. Thanks for the inspiration to return.
@vzuani well actually he is not saying that he looks like a janitor, but merely "Neil Flynn" the actor who is playing as the janitor in SCRUBS (The Series). As the matter of fact he does have some similarity, but I would agree more on Mel Gibson :).... Great Tremolo technique BTW...
I have tried tremolo for 2 months, but it always sounds broken, is that b/c I play too slow so the sound is broken or I have to play it just as fast as you did?
As I counted, I've tried to play this technic for 27 years. I understood You tried this, too - even if one couldn't play it, it's lots of fun to try to order you fingers to do something which is more or less against nature, and it's surely a very good exercise. So, you turned to slide guitar, by the way, I am a great fan of Johnny Winter - I heard he is coming here, to Finland. Have fun with your guitar.
I started to practise this tremolo technic for about 27 years ago - every now and then I've tried to improve it by practising it a lot. It means countless amount of hours - not that I would be ready with it - it still should be more flexible. A tip: try to play continuous tremolo with some open string (not the first string - because fingers learn to make too large movements) while you play some easy melodies on bass strings with the thump. Thanks for commenting! Vesa
Hellos Vega you got the right the succesions with mami are really amazing because you never stop i was trying and it is amazing, thanks for you help and i really admire you the way you play virtuosolly.

I would say the easiest way to start practicing this is with open strings. start working on the high "E" A,M,I...build up speed. then add P(your thumb) on low "E" to "G" to "B" to "G" and back to "E" and just repeat forever and ever. Use a metronome for time signature and then start adding chords when proficient. Tarregas's "Romanza" is an easy song that you can add this practice to as well for a variation.
Just that sometimes I also use the word "song" (as you did with Tarrega's "Romanza" - by the way, maybe you ment here another Romanza which is not Tarrega's) when talking about some pieces. Many people also talk about "guys" when talking about girls. Don't go annoyed if someone tries to be smart like taco... I'm sure he didn't mean anything too bad . . .
I understand that they are just trying to be a smart ass. my comment was simply trying to help explain an easy way to begin practicing tremelo. So this guy can go choke on a taco for all i care.
Thanks. On my video comments ("What is impossible tremolo?") I've tried to give some ideas about practising this - my texts there may be a little difficult to understand, but I have also corrected some mistakes which I wrote there. The main thing is to try to move the thump and other fingers totally independently - whis is - impossible, or is it? I will still make some videos about it, if I can make it any better - I am optimistic about it anyway . . .
Did'nt Rak write this to do the tremelo with the pinky finger? htaht's what i heard from Charles Postlewate. He wrte a book about implementing the pinky. CAMI tremelo would totally help on this piece! that's really hard to play 32nd's with 3 fingers lol, nice video
Rak recorded this piece on 1980's (Chandos) with 5-tone continuous tremolo without using the pinky=the thump is playing at the same time with every 5 tremolo plugs. So, at least on that recording he doesn't use c-finger even if he well could have played it with all four fingers+thump. I cannot do it so - at least during this life(!) Anyway I can reach the needed speed by using only ami+thump. Just for interest: did you try this or some other tremolo piece with continuous tremolo? Thanks.
Yes I played quite a few 4 finger tremelo pieces. Just standard rep like Recuerdo de Alhamambra, Una Limosina por el Dio (barrios, I know the title is wrong :-) You know what else is fun, is changing a tremelo piece, keeping the same chord/voicings throughout the piece, and using a moving Baroque trill:-)
Actually practising has been really, really hard, but now it has became easier and lighter - anyway still way to go in order to make it very good. Thanks for a nice comment. Vesa
tremolo was nice, but it will be easier with slack right hand. if you buckle it, that will be very difficult, and it will recpture with bad soud. your "p" finger wasn't good. perhaps its time to cut your nails?
Nice tremolo, and the bass line (I mean p) is groovy, too. Brilliant. I bet you've tried Brouwer's Canticum, and I believe you can make it sound excellent, too.
Oh, did he really? Anyway here the left hand needs to act so that the tremolo melody line wouldn't stop even for a short moment - that's why it sometimes looks less flexible. So, it's more important how it sounds than how it looks. Anyway it doesn't look or sound perfect at all, especially near the end of the piece. I just didn't want to take this video away from here because people got interested about it here. Thanks for your comment.
I cannot really blame those who criticise me on the same bases as ordinary tremolo playing. As one hasn't tried this it may be difficult to see any difference between this and that tremolo. Also I would say that without some critics here I perhaps would be too satisfied on what I can do now - I still think I can do better, meaning that I am still too much struggling with the technique and not playing this "impossible tremolo" not enough flexible. Youtube makes me try to learn more!!Thanks again.
From a guitar player without a classically trained ear, I would have to say unless you are playing for God it sounds great and 99.9% of people you play for in real life would think the same I think, and that's what really maters I suppose, wish I could finger pick like that even if I was 99% sloppy with it.
Your welcome man, and as I reread my comment I hope you don't misinterpret what I meant. What I meant was it sounds great and only a omniscient being would be able to comment on the errors with a clean conscious because almost no one could do better.
Yes, it's not flowing totally freely. By the way, I guess you noticed that here the thump should play independently against other fingers, making rhytmical changes while the other fingers keeping one tempo - not at all like in any other "ordinary" tremolo technicues. I have a good reason to call this "impossible tremolo". I got a little angry because you are right. Cheers from Vesa. Ps. Critical comments make only good for a player unless they are not in style which "jitpring" prefers.
Yeah, that's me. And thanx for listening. The only thing I meant was that your tremolos isn't flowing as freely as they could be. I'm a classical player as well, and it just came to mind. I hope that you didn't take it as hard as I think you did, ? -that was not my intention. Just wanted to tell you so that you would know (if you didnt't allready).
Thanks for a critical comment. Tell me only, how can a single tone make a cluster - (maybe I really can do it). Of course you mean, don't you, that my tremolo sounds like porridge or smashed potatoes. By the way, I like very much your band's ("Jakadaba Orchestra") music. I suppose you are Lars Rasmussen, aren't you?
In the beginning you are using thumb and middle. It would be smoother I think if you alternated middle and index with the thumb. Also, are you doing the flamenco tremolo? Perhaps using the classical tremolo in the piece would give it more movement and flow? Or does the piece specifically say to use p,i,a,m,i ?

I understand that they are just trying to be a smart ass. my comment was simply trying to help explain an easy way to begin practicing tremelo. So this guy can go choke on a taco for all i care.

did you write this piece?
LoKimLinProject 3 years ago
Oh, no, I didn't. The composer is Stepan Rak and the title is "Cry of the Guitar"

I will still make some videos about it, if I can make it any better - I am optimistic about it anyway . . .
VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
Did'nt Rak write this to do the tremelo with the pinky finger? htaht's what i heard from Charles Postlewate. He wrte a book about implementing the pinky. CAMI tremelo would totally help on this piece! that's really hard to play 32nd's with 3 fingers lol, nice video
ottawasitar 3 years ago
Rak recorded this piece on 1980's (Chandos) with 5-tone continuous tremolo without using the pinky=the thump is playing at the same time with every 5 tremolo plugs. So, at least on that recording he doesn't use c-finger even if he well could have played it with all four fingers+thump. I cannot do it so - at least during this life(!) Anyway I can reach the needed speed by using only ami+thump. Just for interest: did you try this or some other tremolo piece with continuous tremolo? Thanks.
VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
Yes I played quite a few 4 finger tremelo pieces. Just standard rep like Recuerdo de Alhamambra, Una Limosina por el Dio (barrios, I know the title is wrong :-) You know what else is fun, is changing a tremelo piece, keeping the same chord/voicings throughout the piece, and using a moving Baroque trill:-)

he makes it look easy, its actually much harder then it looks

Actually practising has been really, really hard, but now it has became easier and lighter - anyway still way to go in order to make it very good. Thanks for a nice comment. Vesa
VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
tremolo was nice, but it will be easier with slack right hand. if you buckle it, that will be very difficult, and it will recpture with bad soud. your "p" finger wasn't good. perhaps its time to cut your nails?

HAHAHAAHAH YOUR RIGHT! HE DOES! nice playing there btw

I hope it was a nice surprise that I play guitar, too. From Janitor

You mean you ARE the Janitor!!! WOW!

Nice tremolo, and the bass line (I mean p) is groovy, too. Brilliant. I bet you've tried Brouwer's Canticum, and I believe you can make it sound excellent, too.

Ok, I'll try to practise the left hand more. Thanks for a nice comment about my right hand, anyway. Cheers from Vesa.
VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
He meant that it was too easy for your`e left hand.
Magefa 3 years ago
Oh, did he really? Anyway here the left hand needs to act so that the tremolo melody line wouldn't stop even for a short moment - that's why it sometimes looks less flexible. So, it's more important how it sounds than how it looks. Anyway it doesn't look or sound perfect at all, especially near the end of the piece. I just didn't want to take this video away from here because people got interested about it here. Thanks for your comment.

Brilliant - hard to play such a complex piece with feeling.
pinarello001 3 years ago
Yes, that is very true; here almoust the whole attention goes to keeping the "song" in one piece.

VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
From a guitar player without a classically trained ear, I would have to say unless you are playing for God it sounds great and 99.9% of people you play for in real life would think the same I think, and that's what really maters I suppose, wish I could finger pick like that even if I was 99% sloppy with it.
Buddasac99 3 years ago
Thank you.
VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
Your welcome man, and as I reread my comment I hope you don't misinterpret what I meant. What I meant was it sounds great and only a omniscient being would be able to comment on the errors with a clean conscious because almost no one could do better.

benl1119 3 years ago
Yes, it's not flowing totally freely. By the way, I guess you noticed that here the thump should play independently against other fingers, making rhytmical changes while the other fingers keeping one tempo - not at all like in any other "ordinary" tremolo technicues. I have a good reason to call this "impossible tremolo". I got a little angry because you are right. Cheers from Vesa. Ps. Critical comments make only good for a player unless they are not in style which "jitpring" prefers.
VegaLeyffinen 3 years ago
Yeah, that's me. And thanx for listening. The only thing I meant was that your tremolos isn't flowing as freely as they could be. I'm a classical player as well, and it just came to mind. I hope that you didn't take it as hard as I think you did, ? -that was not my intention. Just wanted to tell you so that you would know (if you didnt't allready).
jakadaba 3 years ago
Sorry to say this, but your tremolo's clustering.
jakadaba 3 years ago
Thanks for a critical comment. Tell me only, how can a single tone make a cluster - (maybe I really can do it). Of course you mean, don't you, that my tremolo sounds like porridge or smashed potatoes. By the way, I like very much your band's ("Jakadaba Orchestra") music. I suppose you are Lars Rasmussen, aren't you?
