how do you focus it so it cuts a decent amount of space? when i focus it, it cuts hard, but a space like a strand of hair, and not very deep. can you focus the dot big? will it still cut?
Well in order to make a bigger dot still cut you would need a higher powered laser diode. What you are pretty much doing is the same as using a magnifying glass to focus the sun and burn ants.
No, my laser's burning point is very small too. The video just makes it look a lot bigger than it really is. The beam is really bright and when it hits the black tape it pretty much lights up an area around it.
Driver circuits protect the diode. The keep the current limited and the voltage stable. If there is a spike in either, it could damage or kill the diode. I would recommend a driver circuit but one is not needed to get the laser to work.
Naw, not off the top of my head. I haven't done any work with lasers for about a year now :/ sorry. Laser pointer forums is a really good site with great people willing to help out, check it out. I learned a lot there and got a lot of help!
The only way you could kill someone with this is if you strap them to a bed of wood and pour gas all over then and then light a match in close proximity to the gas with the laser.
or stick it in both their eyes, then they would commit suicide because they dont want to go through the rest of their lives without their eyesight :))
If you put a match in there and light the match with it. You can really only light dark colored materials and gas, being clear and all, won't light to well I'm sure.
Running it at it's max power or even a bit more than what it is rated for is the only way I know, other than focusing it. I'm operating mine with a bit less than what it's rated. The problem with operating it at it's max or more is it decreases the life of the diode.

Hi, im in the midle of making a green laser.
Do you have to have a driver in order for the laser to work?
here is my lasers specs, tell me what you think.
LOP : 320mA - 390mA
Operational Voltage : 2.8 - 3.2

Ohh right thanks. sorry to keep asking stupid questions but
do you have any idea what strength the parts should be in the driver. like what sized capacitor or what ohm the resistor should be.
im a noob at this kind of thing : )

why does everyone use altoids boxes, cant u just use a flashight? GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ

This was made about a year before all the flashlight mods came out...

man can it work with a cd rom or cd writer please tell me ....:D

Naw, the lasers in those are not powerful enough. :(

how did u bild it?
daddymerle 4 years ago
U can do it with Dvd burners ,but dont ask me how
Postghost 4 years ago
is that one of those regular laserpointer diods with alot of power or no
sz42781 4 years ago
It's a red laser diode from a 16x dual layer dvd burner
Dandeman321 4 years ago
I wonder what would happend if you got like 10 or so diode's and got one of those things to focus it with. That thing would cut through limbs lmao.
sz42781 4 years ago
can you make a video which shows how to make 1 of these please

is there a way u can control the intensity of the laser?? email me back

Look at my other laser videos and their comments. I've posted links and componant lists.

Nice job mate!
If i ever get to make one of these, is there a way to make a laser a bit more powerfull?
Nightrazr 5 years ago
well two 1.5 volt AA, so 3 volts total. Not too sure about the current however.
Dandeman321 5 years ago
I think there are flowing much current...
BloodySword1987 4 years ago
Honestly, Your putting too much current into that diode.
about 10 amps and it usually only needs .200 amps
phazonxl 4 years ago
Naajs:) how many voltage/current on the diode?
