that explosion in the beginning of the simulation was so real i'm thinking that fire is just something the government made up! iv'e never seen a car exploded for real. it turned in to a black peice of turd so fast! so real!
I don't get it... why do they all put tens of thousands of dollars into the hardware... to make it as accurate and immersible as possible but always use crappy graphics and they always say WOW SO REAL, imagine using graphics like crysis... what would they say then? TOO REAL? :)) MAKE BETTER GRAPHICS!
@gevelegian well VR uses existing 3D engines primarily. The very good engines ie. Unreal, Crysis etc. have very expensive licensing fees. PTSD VR applications require grants from various govt and NGO organizations so there is limited budget. Also all the 3D modelling is expesive. These VR Therapy apps don't have a retail revenue stream. There is a push at the "Serious Games" Expos to get these license fees much lower for Therapy.
on a 2d screen those graphics look antique because the 2d screen cannot give the illusion of volume. that's where the 3dvision hardware makes the change and that's what actually impresses the viewer.
The graphics are able to be used with this hardware , but this isn't a video about hardcore gaming is it? No , it's about creating a calm environment for PTSD afflicted soldiers to be able to process the situation that caused the intitial problem. They CANNOT use intense environments because that is not therapeutic. This is a calm environment so the brain can process the event without making the situation worse. We're trying to help them , not worsen the problem.
@gevelegian Stereoscopic graphics, especially when used together with a head tracker, are inherently more immersive than monoscopic graphics on a screen. They say "wow so real", not because of the detail of the graphics, but because they perceive actual depth, like reality and unlike what you see in a Youtube video. Of course, extremely detailed graphics would be even better.
We only supply the various hardware and do custom builds/integrations. We currently do not build the environments or the 3D Models/engines. What type of interface did you use? Projection, monitor, head mounted display etc..
They need to hire some gaming studios to make theese VR scenario applications. More realistic, high resolution graphics, and lifelike animations/physics would really intensify the VR experience.
I'd like to see this guy's reaction to a world that looks as photorealistic as COD4, for instance.
I agree that more realisiic, and high resolution graphics need improving for VR enabled applications/programs. I also believe that Artificial intelligence and the improvements we could make in this field could further intensify the feeling and life like appeal for VR simulations.
I would like them to incorporate this into a MMORPG, something like Project .hack
some really good stuff here

Well, they are making virtual reality programs to help the soldiers' cope with the trauma. I don't know how it would work psychologically, though.

this is ridiculous, did you know that more soldiers have died to the trauma than soldiers killed in iran.
they should invest much more in helping them
