I don't think Kong Hee acted in "greed" purely for himself. we are forgetting that HIS WIFE (Ho Yeow Sun) has been living an excessively extravagant, hollywood celebrity lifestyle, a million dollar mansion in Beverly Hills (Los Angeles), frequent jet-setting around the world (New York, Paris, London). as the saying goes "No Money, No Honey".
