I'd say the problem with comedy now is that it's not really comedic at all, it's just pointless snark. Even the substance of Disney shows is mainly characters insulting each other, and the punch line is almost always, "Um . . . okay?"

There's no physical comedy like there is with Basil or Jack Tripper, no hilarious situational sketches, witty puns, anything relatable. It's all about people's mother-in-laws or talking to your kids about sex (not a crazy event, if it happens).

Today's comedy tries way too hard to be "clever", and mostly fails miserably. Fawlty Towers and Black Adder are my all time favorite comedies because they were brilliantly written, and not afraid to add slapstick elements.

@poplova well "poppers", i reckon that it's because the major is "old school", war veteran, a "major" ( by definition a "blue blood") the "very backbone of society" that "faulty" aspires to; the essence of what f/towers is all about - to take the piss essentially out of the "aspiring" middle classes. ( i.e. himself ) now that might be all a load of bollocks, but that's my take on it. cheers.

@MimiLovesMJ Totally agree - watched How I met your Mother yesterday and for a whole episode I didn't smile even once, such a boring show....nowadays all the comedies are about people trying to find love...it's just not funny, it's repetitive and u know what to expect (except Big Bang- love that show). Here I almost chocked from laughter cause I made mistake to eat while watching :)
