the beauty with these early mustangs..is that they are lighter ,handle and peform better than any other later mustang.. i have a 66 fastback,, running a very mild and very streetable 347 windsor stroker with alloy heads and manifold, mild roller cam 750 holley,toploader.. nine inch... and has 435 hp.. it runs very low 12s over the quarter all day everday,, thats faster than a current shelby and much cheaper ...plus with a few suspension modications they can handle quite well..
sure you could option them anyway you wanted but who wants a mustang or any american muscle car with a v6 hot damn its all about the raw loud power lol
they put those little bitty burned out "cherry bomb" glasspacks on the shelbys just for looks i think, basically open exhaust. i have a duplicate "tribute mustang" and get just as many thumbs up just cuz its a cool car .
oh man... beautiful car. whats the song playing in the backround towards the end? it was probably playing for half the video, but i noticed the harmonics on the guitar towards the end. anyone know?
The only sad part about this car, is that 90% of the people who are looking tho buy the new 2011 GT350 wouldn't know what the hell to do with a car like this. I love the mustang i always have, but Ford ruined the car for me many years ago.
The new technology, and no association with numbers meaning power output, are making this new Shelby very different. They're saying 506-556bhp. Not the 5.4 like the GT500, but the new 5.0 from the 2011 GT! With a Ford Racing Whipple supercharger, base that on the 412bhp stock engine. Also performance packages will be available as well.
Basically forget the numbers, the 2011 Shelby GT350 will walk a GT500, in every way. Better technology, no doubt looks, lighter, everything. And a legend. Sweet.
@the new shelbys can't beat this car in one catagory just yet, maybe over time, but not right now. Price/ worth. Current shelblys are what $50-70k, this thing is $100k +.
LOL..Just listen to that thing. 306HP..sounds like it's got 3000 and 6! As a GM fan I always said the 5.0 Mustangs I'd get waxed by in my 87 5.0 5spd IROC-Z sounded best by far...this one is right up there too.
hey man i'm 18 as well with a 1965 mustang. to help answer you're questions, i'd say definately go for a 1st gen. they are amazingly easy to work on, and i guarantee the only tools you'll ever need include a wrench and socket set. no "special" tools required like those on new cars. and as far as suspension and brakes, yeah its possible. expensive, but possible. i'm about to buy some ssbc disc's for the front, hopefully a mustang 2 suspension later on.
Also would there be any way to apply parts to a first gen stang(its my prefered model as well) to get as close as possible to the performance of a modern mustang in terms of suspension and brakes?
Yeah that helped a bit thank you. As a result of me purchasing either of those models presently, which would be a better investment in lets say, ten years from now? As for the price issue, Im from Los Angeles and there are tons for sale at different quality around here from private sellers so finding one at an affordable price is not a problem. Money is not easy to come by for me so Im trying to be very catious. Should I save more money or purchase a first gen fix it up slowly?
Jay Leno is the man and Craig Ferguson comes in second.
I have a question about Mustangs if anyone can help.
So Im 18 years old and Im thinking of getting a Mustang. I know a respectable amount about muscle cars and engines. But my question is should I get a First Generation Stang or a modern one? Things to consider is that Im going to keep mine for a long time and maybe pass down to my son or something. What would be more practical?
Don't know how much help I can be but here's my 2 cents worth. It all depends on your taste. I would get a 1st generation one. They're easier to work on and you don't have to go though all the computer stuff to fix them. Although with the newer ones you have better braking systems, better suspension, and A/C standard. I'm not sure which would be more practical. The 1st generation cars are typically more expensive to buy because they're the most desired of all the Stangs.
personally i would get a modern stang, just because if your at school you wouldnt want anyone to key it or ding up a classic. im actually saving now and getting a 07 GT. If your going to mod it go with the fox bodys very slick and can easily do 10s. it really depends on what you want to do with the car
It's a shame that these Shelby Mustangs have become soo expensive that most people can't afford them or are afraid to drive them. I sat in a 68 GT-350 a couple a weeks ago. Very nice car very comfortable seats. Great exhaust note as well. Cars were ment to be driven no matter what they are. Get out and enjoy them!
what a great sound!!!!! nothing like a 289 at full song. around 4 grand the motor just starts to sing. i love driving mine. just wish gas was 75 cents a gallon.
Thanks pls24. This has always been my dream car since I was a kid ('65 GT 350). I can remember in 1967 my dad almost bought a fastback Mustang, but with three kids there wouldn't have been enough room for us. He chose a Fairlane xl instead. I can still remember going to Roy O'brien Ford, which was a suburban Detroit dealership to buy the Fairlane. There was a black gt Mustang in the showroom with redlines and rear window louvers, beautiful!

The one thing about the '65 and '66 Mustangs(Shelby's) is the proportions are right. Today's Mustang (Shelby) seems way to beefy looking to me.
