I am the "Somebody". 1974 Paul came to see jc, his old gf. I hung out with him while they cleared up old issues. I had a dream and told him. My strange dream was put to lyrics by Paul and Roland Salley (base player for Chris Issak). 90% of the lyrics are words I put to Paul. jc subdued my love too eventually. She now has an art studio in St.Petersberg Fl on the same street where John Prine has (had) a house, he covers this song too as does Allison K and Robert Plant. This is the best one
@MindGroper So true, Chris is superlative in every way. When the female inspiration of the song and I took off from Atlanta in her parents hand-me-down whale of a Pontiac with a pocket of juke box money...to Athens Ga in 1974 we inspired the song 'Love Shack' to the band that took my suggestion of a name for their budding band...
@buddyclaude Did you set up your own love shack with her in Athens or did you stay on the move? I knew a woman from Athesn. Her nickname was Bunny but her real name was Blanche Devine. She had been married 3 times by age 33 and using all her names she was Blanche Devine Adams Frye Canute
@MindGroper We already were shacked up in Atlanta. The non working farm/ranch house we went to in Athens harbored the budding bandmates. I deemed an out building the "Love Shack" and had my first martini in a Mason Jar while there. The female was also the inspiration for "Killing the Blues". I am the 'somebody' in that song which is based on a dream I had about her old boyfriend who stayed at our house a short while
This is my favorite Shawn Colvin song. Simple and beautiful. Nostalgic, melancholic and sad...but still sweet and lovely. Love it. Just love it.
