Sounds like a 5sfte? Either that or it's really a 5sgte but running the stock ECU with the 6345 rpm redline. Need to raise the redline to make all of that time/money spent swapping everything really pay off.
I don't doubt that it is. I probably wasn't very clear though. The F head and stock ecu are designed for low-mid torque for daily driving, whereas the G head and stock ecu perform poorly below about 3500 rpm but keep making power well past 6300.
If this person really went through all the hassle of swapping the top half of the engine, then turbocharging it, they should go the final step. It's not a waste, but that engine has so much more potential.
Yes, but the 3S-GTE never reved as high as the NA 3S-GE. It doesn't have to. The turbo makes more HP because of it's increase in torque, not because of high revs. Increese the boost and thereby the torque gets you even more hp.
The highest reving stock street engine only reved to 6200 rpm to achieve over 250 hp
Looks like you might be right, good sir. I can't find a reliable source, but my impression was that the 3sgte redline was at least 7000 (though could be different for different generations).
any idea what exactly your friend did and to what engine? Was it a 3sgte 3rd gen engine and did he just stroke it to a 2.2L? and if so, any idea what company he went with? I am trying to build my own ST205 and once I am complete, I want to tear into that engine for performance.
if you actually look closer you can tell that it has a ge head with a and since it is a 3sge head it hase a 3sge manifold on it most likely a caldina manifold
if you actgually look closely you can tell it's a 3sge/te head and it would most likely be a 3sgte and since it is a 3sgte head it would most likely be a caldina head
Yeah thats what a 5sgte is, the 3s or "G" head, flows better and has shoter intake runners, 5s is a stronger block. Its just bolts right up. Did u change the cams at all or was it just like dropping it in and tunning the hell out of it?
It looks like a 5S-FE maked turbo no like an 5S-GTE maked using a 3S-GTE

It's turbo charged. You don't need a lot of revs to gain power from a turbo.

That would be the NA 3S-GE. Not the turbocharged 3S-GTE. Except i some race versions that had over 400 bhp.

im interested to see what this one runs in the 1/4

It looks like the 5sfe head because the 3sgte's head, the intake faces the front bumper, on the 5s the intake faces the wheel well.
I'm assuming he's using the 3sgte exhaust manifold and in the old days we considered that to be a 5sfte :-p. 5sgte would be a 3sgte head swap.

5sgte - he really is running a 5s block and 3s head and turboed = 5sgte
ns671fr 2 years ago
No it is a 5s block and 3s head. There was alot of work and money he put into it.
sekseeh 3 years ago
its hardly any work at all i have built one of these for my St162it may be a bit of money but hardly any work
roids70 2 years ago
youre basically just stroking it and i know a guy who did this on his all trac and is dynoed a lil over 700 hp and runs the 1/4 in 10's

Im not entirely sure about everything i would have to go and search through my messages to find out what all he did
TimQuerry 2 years ago
oh ok. I am also thinking about buying a N/A MR2 for a future project and to daily drive while I build up my Celica.
24okay 2 years ago
nah, it is a 5sgte, it is a 5s block mated with the 3s head. he's got a custom intake manifold so that's what might be confusing you
jertel56 3 years ago
oh sorry. You sure its custom, it looks like a cast manifold. Maybe a 3sge manifold? I heard they bolt on.
lfkajsdljf 3 years ago
if you look close that is a 5sfe intake manifold. its just a turbocharged 5sfe, not a 5sgte

can u do the same to a 1990 celica gt
take the head from a 3s-gte and bolt it on a
5sfe
