  • 1968: Hawaii 5-0

    2011: Hawaii 5-0

    The new series rocks!

  • Look Maw...NO Hotels on Waikiki Beach!!!! 1968 was so damn different...I love being there...it is so damn peaceful...the local boys and girls are so nice...even to whites!!! LOL.

  • jimbag24 b/c nothing is sacred anymore.

  • ku*wa reklama :L

  • good, look my chanel pleas

  • @jimbag24 Unfortunately, so it can stay free they get about 69% XD of the profit or somewhere around there

  • Jack Lord: ALWAYS respect him, or its 'Book 'em, Danno' :)

  • original opening trailer and music are still the best of the tv series !

  • :30 second commercial! Screw off!!

  • i like the new one better

  • @nananaNikk And a lot of people don't. If you like the new one so much better, go look for clips of it and comment it on it there.

  • Some schmuck re-edited this with phony-baloney effects. C'mon man -- don't screw with a classic!

  • Awesome scenes in this pilot theme that they never used again. I love the camera aerial swoop into McGarrett on top of building (not used here). Greatest camera effect ever! Thumbs up!!

  • does anyone know which season was this?

  • @yellowribbon This intro was the intro for the pilot when it originally aired as a two-hour episode. When it was rebroadcast as two one-hour eps, they changed the intro to the one we're more familiar with that shows McGarrett on the hotel balcony. I doubt that this intro was ever shown after the original airing.

  • The Original & The Best!

  • 23 people were booked by Danno

  • We're playing this song in band. My homework was to watch this. BEST. HOMEWORK. EVER.

  • Just got back , loved the area and the show.

Made my own video...why not...check it out..!!!

  • I think I get to play this in band :D

  • on sunday my brother almost threw up on the Jack Lord bust

  • I really wish I could have seen the 80s. Haxaii Five-O, The A-Team, The Incredible Hulk, Metallica in their prime, no Justine Beaver, no FaceBook faggots controlling everything, best of all; METAL music was on top! Thumbs up if you agree that the 80s rule and the 21st century sucks donkey balls when compared!

  • @VirgilwithanE the truest comment of all time.

  • @rickyjshiznit Thanks, brother. Added!

  • WON'T WATCH!

ONLY THE MAN'S MAN'S SHOW THE ORIGINAL CLASSIC HAWAII FIVE 'O

WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME...................

NOT THE MODERN POLITICALLY CORRECT "FEMINIST" INFUSED VERSION...

    MALE POWER/MALE CHAUVANIST-2011

  • ...The commercial before this video was the Hawaii Five-O one.

  • book 'em Dano......

  • recorded this my sticking a 70's jukebox up to the TV and pressed record, didnt have the tape from the store. Also remember playing with my dads 8 track/reel to reel Akai also, good times.

  • Hawaii Five-O! One of my favorite TV shows!

  • looking back, I suspect that opening wave is the whole reason I started surfing

  • Book him Dan-O

  • 0:01

  • the new five -O sucks!!!!! I bet Jack Lord is rolling over in his grave..

  • The old O gave birth to the new O - but like all fake facsimiles of something original - the old O has been given new life.

    :)

  • This is so much better than the new theme. They really took the power out of it with just the guitar to do the main melody and the drums don't match the music at all in the new one.

  • @RichieEastside The new theme sounds almost exactly like this one, trumpets and all.

  • @eday2010 Yea I've since actually seen the new one instead of just listening to what people were saying the "official" theme was going to be and it was pretty good. There was another video that said it was the official theme for the new show and it was some guitar with crummy drums and everyhting. Glad to see they got a good one!

  • @RichieEastside From what I've read, that was a temp track that they were going to use as the official theme. But when the critics heard it, they all hated it because it was a terrible rendition of the original, so CBS went with this one, which I think is better than the original :)

  • Just starting watch this Old version Tv series on my Tv channel...and i found it great........cause i like this kind of stories shows......

  • That was nice, but it wasn't the opening sequence as I remember it. Too much emphasis on guest stars, and no shots of the co-stars. It must have been season one.

  • @jrbaskind

This is the opening from the original pilot. This theme has lots of keyboard... more than subsequent themes did.

  • this is the post-jump-the-shark version.

  • @fordxbgtfalcon

TV Guide News couldn't address that he was gay or not but did say that he was married to his wife Marie for nearly 50 years. Where did you read or heard that he was gay?

  • I've seen the first episode of the 2010 version of Hawaii Five-0 and to be quit frank, it's shitty. It's too much like Miami Vice but worse especially with those two guys and their piss and vinegar attitudes. Then there is the machine gun shoot-em up scene at the end of the show, like no originality. Aren't people sick of that shallow shoot em up crap? I mean really! It's quit BORING to see the same old cliches over and over again. This old one is BETTER. Sometime the new people don't get it.

  • @orpanyd then do not watch it...I saw all the old ones...and all the new ones that have been shown on TV....and I like them both....I hate it people compare something new to something old....you have different writers...different actors....I saw all the old ones with my dad as I was growing up...and I loved those shows...but now that I am older...I love the new show as well...DO NOT WATCH IT...YOUR PROBLEM IS SOLVED...NO MORE QUESTION!!!!THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!

  • They still play in in Hawai'i every now and then! The new ones good but i prefer this version!!

  • Dude , This is from Pilot episode of Hawaii Five-0, so stop complaining it. It is still a good show. Not new, Its Classic.

  • Book Em Danno!!!!!!!!!!

  • I prefer the old one!!!!!!!!!!

  • was this use for the 1st Pilot the unaired one?

  • the Naked Gun was in this show? Ws he like the movies?

  • @tbonesays I think Leslie Nielsen was the bad guy in the original pilot.

  • great theme for great show

    This for Richie

  • the original hawaii five o is shown in more then two hundred countries.no other show in television history has done that and in my personal and professional opinion it will never happen again with any other show ever!

  • I had also wondered what version this was, but thanks for explaining. Great theme song. I just don't know why the NEW Hawaii 5-0 only plays half of the theme song. Can't they give us just another 30 seconds and play the whole song? That's what catches the viewers, a catch tune to intro into a good show.

  • ohhh jesus christ! this is so racist!

  • @nebuladakiev It is not racist. That means that it is assuming one race is superior to another. All they are doing is depicting different scenes from Hawaii, the people, landmarks, and cast members,

  • i remember this show in my elementary days...this was shown in RPN-9......

  • Love the cars. I think more than the women.

  • For VanWaDebbie, if you listen to the dialogue in the first segment after the music, Five O was the state police. They had more clout than local cops. Also since Steve answered to the Governor who had pull with the Federal Government.

  • For Sacker, this version of the theme was used in the Pilot "Cocoon". After its initial showing in September 1968, it was edited into a 2 part story shown first at the end of season 1. That version of "Cocoon" (which featured an edited version of the theme as we knew since James Macarthur was not in it) is the version shown in syndication today and was even respliced as a 2 hour film. The original September 1968 showing of "Cocoon" was rarely seen again until the DVD copy in Set 1.

  • I have the video of the pilot. "Cocoon"

I could not understand why Hawaii 5-O and the cops act like Feds and go after Red Chineese spies.

  • @VanWADebbie They were a division of the state police and were assigned espionage jobs.

  • This is from the pilot

  • i believe this is the version they used in the two pilot episodes.

  • This opening must have been the pilot or one of the very early episodes--first season perhaps. The opening was recut into the now-classic version, using much faster pacing, and the famous helicopter shot into Jack Lord on the hotel balcony. This one obviously uses much of the same footage, but the later one did everything to much better effect. The later one, by the way, has more than 60 cuts in 60 seconds... pretty radical for its time.

  • @Filmtree - This open is from "Cocoon" (Episode 0 - the pilot, September 20, 1968).

  • book em danno

  • @wiithepeople2 Sorry people2, we gotta let 'em go. Orders from the top. Not enough to hold them on.

  • Hawaii Five-0 CBS Red Carpet Season every Monday 10PM Eastern 9PM Central my husband and I rode the wave of excitement and it was awesome. Hawaii Five-0 is a revived nostalgic crime scene drama loaded with live action mysterious drama thrilling adventure and explosive reactions topped with a little heart. The music is upbeat groovy hip chic never skips a beat. Legendary composer Morton Stevens composed the world famous original Hawaii Five-O theme song. Aloha Kauaicr07 Kauaicc96 and Coolwater00.

  • Have never seen this version, and it showed the face of the Tahitian dancer (not hulu dancing; it's much slower). Will have to look up where the two women and young boy are now.

  • This sounds so.. tacky. The other old version sounds much better. I'd imagine if this was the version used, Hawaii Five-O wouldn't be the classic it became.

  • @coccioloneus A comedy version maybe?? :-P

  • This has to have be the opener to the original pilot from '68. It's a longer run to accommodate the cast and production credits.

  • This is the opening to the 1st episode "Cocoon" which was a pilot. That is why the "real" Danno is missing and the "guest stars" are listed in the opening credits. And FYI, Leslie Nielsen did NOT have a comedy role!

  • I just saw last night's epi... I think there may be something worthwhile about this new one.

Just cut all the cussing out, and it would be great.

  • my mom had a 1970 4 door mercury like his back in 1970 & 71

  • Jack Lord was THE FUCKIN' MAN!!!!!!

  • @Serpo71 LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Serpo71 and he liked men too!

  • @fordxbgtfalcon Bullshit

  • @Serpo71 sorry for bursting your bubble son, I lived in Hawaii for 5 years and I was working as a mason. we were building a rock wall at his neibors house and we saw him several times in his back yard with a young guy and they were very friendly if you know what i mean.

  • @fordxbgtfalcon If it's true, it's a disappointment

  • @Serpo71 Hardly true. I heard those rumors, too, and they are spread by people who like to stir up gossip. I have a friend who is related to him, and compiled a lot of research for a book. Many of the people with whom she spoke said a lot of things that she could not tell me, because they are all going into the book, but none of them saw or heard anything to indicate that he was bisexual or homosexual.

  • @sapphiretaurus Plus, Jack lived in an apartment by Kahala Beach, with other similar buildings. There are no houses with yards there. If there is a yard of any kind, and Jack was in it with a man and getting too friendly with him, the people in the building would have seen them, too, not just some people in the neighbor's yard.

  • @fordxbgtfalcon How friendly?

  • @fordxbgtfalcon When were you working on this neighbor's yard, and in what year did you see this? Jack lived in an apartment, and he would not have had his own back yard.

  • ,,Jack was suave.

  • @Serpo71

    You are correct sir !!

  • Oh yea, I don't remember, or like this one. Leslie Nielson? I think spoof...right away. Was this the first one? Or in later years...he looks older.

  • I hate to say it CBS, but this is why the original will always be "EPIC" and the modern day reboot (despite some great actors in the cast) is fail. Was a special show, for a special generation during a special time in geek history.

    le sigh.

  • @DaigojiGai As a huge fan of the original, I don't see why Five-0 should just be for a special generation, I don't see why the show can't be rebooted for a newer generation. Sure it may never be the same as the classic, but times change, classics can be changed and adapted as well. They want to bring in more fans into the Five-0 fandom, and I think modernizing it to a style that newer generations understand and get is not a bad thing. I think the new reboot is a fitting continuation.

  • @BetaArtemis Not everyone in the younger generation will care for some of the effects in the newer one - the fast-paced scenes with gunplay, car chases, and explosions, as well as the lack of straightforward storytelling that the older one has. I wasn't around when the first show aired, but I saw it reruns as a child, so the original version can still relate to newer generations. The high-tech stuff isn't a guranteed attention-grabber for young people.

  • Best TV Theme song ever! Period.

  • @JixMus Not technically. It only made #23 on BuddyTV's top 101 theme songs. It was beat in the long run by Gilligan's Island.

  • Imagine sitting down to watch TV one night back in 1968 and this intro comes on.

How could you not watch it?

  • This is making me miss Hawaii SOOOO much :-((

I really wish I was still living there...

  • This opening was used in the pilot which was made prior to James McArthur joing the cast.

  • @wadeb11

Thanks for adding that. I was wondering. I DO live here...have for a year. It is AWESOME.

  • Nancy Kwan....Hubba, hubba!

  • surely you can't be serious. I AM serious, and don't call me Shirley.

  • Jack Lord was pretty full of himself with that hair thing going on. When they filmed they would have to take and retake until he could get that perfect look.

  • @hotwelder2010 No, he was not. Who told you he did all that? They had 8 days to film an episode, and worked on a limited budget. If they reshot scenes because of his hair and makeup, that would have wasted time and money. No one who worked on the show ever remarked about such a thing, and I've seen episodes where his hair is blowing around in heavy winds, so he could not have been asking them to redo those scenes.

  • my gawd, where did you get this version. this is the original pilot opening of "cocoon". this is only about 10 times better than the other music video. this shows more of hawaiian culture/heritage. thanks for posting this version. i hope it doesn't get taken off.

  • Wow, I never saw this version before. It rocks!

  • how can this be one of the most popular / successful shows and still have people thinking people in Hawaii live in grass huts??????

  • I fear the version will be garbage. The promos look like crap - made to appeal to the Jr. high set. Pity the original is so good.

  • @bluemax111f You're right. It's not that good.

  • @sapphiretaurus your opinion

  • @2000lightspeed I know it is. I'm not posting anyone else's but my own.

  • @sapphiretaurus i didn't mean it like that, im just saying, whatever you think is YOUR opinion

  • @2000lightspeed You actually took me literally. No wonder you don't understand anything. I know it is my opinion, and I don't need you to point it out at every turn.

  • Comment removed

  • @sapphiretaurus OK, I see your point

  • @2000lightspeed Thank you. I'm willing to put this all aside, if you are.

  • @sapphiretaurus Sure, that's fine w/ me

  • Leslie Nielsen was in Hawaii Five-O at one point?

    Shirley you can't be serious...

  • @TroyConvers5000 - Don't call him Shirley! Rest in peace, Leslie Nielsen (February 11, 1926 - November 28, 2010).

  • Opening to the pilot :)

  • Man, I love those overhead fly-by shots. <3

  • This is the opening title sequence to the pilot episode film - later recut into the two-part episode 'Cocoon'.

  • My parents loved Hawaii Five-0. My dad is really looking forward to the new one coming to CBS this fall. As a child this show didn't interest me, but I believe I'll like this.

  • @Sheri451 Have you developed an interest in the older version now?

  • @sapphiretaurus No I don't even know if it's shown anywhere.

  • @Sheri451 It is rerun on local channels, and a cable channel called ME TV is rerunning it. There are also full-length episodes on YouTube.

  • @sapphiretaurus Yes, we have ME TV also. My Grandfather watches it daily.

  • ES EL OPENING DEL PILOTO DE 1966 Ó 1968, APARECEN LESLIE NILSEN Y LA MUY BELLA NANCY KWAN

  • iim pretty sure thats not .."the original"

  • @jef5150 IT WAS THE ORIGINAL ORIGINAL....PILOT.... IT was well edited and of course the longer version..BEEN to Hawaii many, many times from the 2000's on...and IT IS amazing to see how everything changed in Waikiki Beach...LOVE this version the best....Love how the camera comes swooping down..VERY COOL.

  • quen es mas macho Lloyd Bridges ou Jack Lord?

  • @Breeslave No hay ninguna comparisión entre los dos... el señor Lord fue lo más hermoso.

  • hawaii dont look nothing like that no more

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like the Cocoon pilot, not the usual opening credits.

  • @prestonlewis Indeed it was the "Cocoon" pilot.

  • You're right! This is the theme from the Pilot episode.

  • I love how they displayed Wo Fat's name over the fire as if the character represented an evil, sinister criminal.

  • @sacker12: This is the pilot version. Note that James MacArthur (Danny "Book 'em Danno" Williams) is not credited, as he joined the cast beginning with the first regular episode. This is a rarity, as I'm sure CBS plastered the better-known opening over the pilot for syndication. I'd like to see CBS upload a high quality version of the version that aired for some twelve-odd years.

  • Is Jack Lord running that way so as not to get creases in his suit? LOL

  • I love this memorable and fantastic Hawaii Five-O tune. I am so excited and looking forward to watch the new, cool and innovative H5O with a fantastic young cast in September 2010 on CBS.

  • Thus spake the Hawaiian Lord. "Book em Danno murder one!"

  • huge fan hope they dont fuck up the show, i already hate the new opening sequence of the new one they fucked up the song .thats a no no. thats sacriligeous. like taking a rap sample.

  • The 2010 opening from the new show is "ok". Doesn't have the terrific brass that the original had.

  • I've never seen this version before. I prefer the one from the series with the sped-up zoom on Jack Lord.

  • @sacker12 This was the opening used for the first episode "Cocoon", subsequent openings would be a variation on this original one.

  • @sacker12 This opening sequence was from the series pilot back in 1968 Cool stuff

  • @sacker12 RIP Danno

  • If you all look...Waikiki Beach in 1968 there was NO huge tall buildings. now it is cluttered with OUT OF DATE BUILDINGS>>>>HINT UR sister city...Las Vegas learned it is ok to demolish the old and bring in the new..do it Waikiki Beach..

  • This theme is from the original Pilot episode.

  • GREATEST THEME MUSIC EVER.

  • Odd.

The video is from the pilot show, the music is the revised theme from the final series.

  • Wow I've never seen this version, I like the other one better.

  • @DarianGTR06: It's the version from the pilot episode, complete with some of the guest stars (Leslie Nielsen and Nancy Kwan) who I don't think were going to be in a running series. The music was remixed and shortened for the regular series. The beeping in the background is a lot louder in the pilot version.

  • @bearclause Whoever was in charge of re-editing for the series did a great job and had a very musical eye. The rhythm of the editing is great, fast and dramatic. That sequence looks modern and powerful. That's the one I'm used to (remember the fantastic Jack Lord zoom shot?).

  • brings back memories of yesterday

  • This is one of those shows that if they made it into a movie today, and DID NOT USE the Theme, I'd leave the theater and demand my money back.

  • @Laceykat66 Hell yes! Just like the new TV Show. I would say screw it if they hadn't used the theme

  • Love the song, and the series!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Tv series opening is much better.

  • And I rember on weekdays it came on before silverhawks 1:30 2:30 friend.

  • my school band is playing this song for our concert

  • I liked this show because it reminds me of a great time in America: good music, no Muslims, good TV, and lots of jobs!

  • @bigfathippo53 sad bastard.

  • Jack Lord - in the 70's I used to wear my hair like his I was in school, and thought I was cool or somethin,, get em' Danno !

  • We see the dancer's face in this video and for the next twelve years see her backside!

  • This was from the pilot movie and not the TV series, right?

  • TV series
