From the 1st time I heard this & every other track from the Stone Roses ive been mesmerised by there beautiful music, way ahead of their time & they continue to inspire on their 3rd comming for the future kids :-)
maybe because they are from Manchester and support United.....something both parties are proud of, so it's not irrelevant. The Stretford Enders are proud of their Manchester roots and bands that come from their town, so again it's very relevant!
Why do people make such a big deal about the fact this is played before United come out? I'm a long way off being a United fan, yet it's irrelevant. Ian Brown himself once said at the Roses iconic Blackpool gig "it ain't where you're from it's where you're at" after constant "Manchester Na Na Na" chants, and he's spot on.
Forget the football, be united by the Roses instead. One Love.
The guitaring in this song is superb and when i was younger i used to go on about this album to everyone who hadnt heard it. Then it was voted album of the century....So i stated my case.. I cant wait to see them live although like themselfs im pushing 50 (i dont care)!!! And when they said they're best gig was in Glasgow! That was because we appreciate good music up here....
@KyKy1997Ere How do you work that one out? Ian Brown and Mani are die-hard United fans, John Squire doesn't like football but Reni supports City. Get you're facts right
@NorthWalesIsFootball Why don't you get your fucking facts right, Idiot. Ian Brow even said it himself; He's a Manchester City fan. and Atleast you got two things right. Reni is a City Fan - like the others - and John don't like football. So; Prick. Why don't you get your facts right?

@LaidbackHerotyke hey...why do you guys associate stone roses with man united? are they from manchester or something? I'm romanian, so i don't know :D
@TheProfir They're from Manchester and the song is used as the 'coming out' theme for Manchester United. Idiots tend to assume this song is devoted too Man Utd, but it really isn't.
@TheProfir It is now considered to be a United song because 3 of the 4 Stone Roses are big, big Manchester United fans also. It started becoming 'THE' United song around the time Ian Brown (lead singer) started talking about how much it meant to him that United used his song as an entrance theme. Of course in 2011, Ian Brown sung 'This is The One' live and in person as the teams entered for Gary Neville's testimonial.
as an everton fan, i can say that man u walking out to this song does not take away in any way from this bing the best stone roses song. music and football are two very different things. i hate the mancs in football (not as much a liverpool though) but when it comes to music it makes absolutely no difference where you are from if the song is good then you are good. this is the one fucking yeah
Hey! All you stupid fucks who are bitching about this stupid Football and Manchester and Untied shit, stop bitching and listen to music. Fuck football cuz sports are gay, fuck manchester cuz i have no idea where that is and fuck the beatles cuz their in the past and everyone is over them. JUST ENJOY THE FUCKING MUSIC!!!!!!
1999 treble song. All you twats saying "Fuck United, Hail the Roses"... yeah yeah that's your business. If it were not for the football this song would not have the coverage it deserves. Thank Old Trafford and Manchester United for actually bringing this song to greater mainstream prominence.
Fans from Tooting to Tanzania get goosebumps to this banger, simply for the Old Trafford coverage.
@MrRocknRoll hmmmm us Mancunians only have one brain cell between us yet you cant think of any better words than f*ck. Go moan on some other song :) Thanks.
Amazing Song weather your listenin for the music purely or for the footballing memories that come with it !!!

I'm a United fan but I cant help wondering what this has to do with football?? This is a classic tune by a truly groundbreaking Mancunian band that lead the way with a whole new sound of their era... Yes United come out at OT with it, but it's no more connected to United as Tina Turners "Simply the best". Though it's so much more of a tune than 'Blue moon'... ;)
@ohhai4 Sorry, didn't realise the criteria needed to become a Club anthem. Must be the reason simply the best or indeed we are the champions never made it...
Connee Boswell, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Vaughn Monroe, Dean Martin, Frankie Laine & Michel Legrand, Tony Bennett, with Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, and Django Reinhardt... Which of these "massive" blues performed "Blue moon" at Maine Road or Wastelands then?? Just wondering...

The irony is that all the manc morons don't even know anything about this band.... they were never part of the manchester scene, they were outsiders who were looking outwards and didn't give two shits about where they came from - they had no great love for Manchester -- it was all about where they were going. Country's just full of parochial dickheads who can't see past the colours of a football shirt...remember what Ian Brown said....it's not where you're from it's where you're at.
@sedsonso2 fuck off mani and ian brown are united fans i aint got a clue about squire or reni and i'm a glasgow rangers boy who gives a fuck what team they support this is a fuckin classic driven by the greatest rhythm section in the history of music and thats saying something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@UlsterLoyal72 No, I love football. I just hate how people hate people for who they support. And I hate how football tears people apart on this video. Anyone can enjoy this song whether you support, Liverpool, United, City or even Chelsea. Music should bring people together
@11sid fuck man utd stop brandin this song as a "united choon" what an arse hole this song is pure class man yous are all bell ends! come on the toon!!
music unites all human beings. regardless of the club we support, the country we are from. the life we live, our culture and the religion we follow, music brings all to one.
I'm a Bolton fan who hates United but I love this song, music and football have no link. If it's good music, that's the end of it, and this is brilliant.
@notlobian4ever I'm a D.C. United fan, and I think Michael Bolton sucks, so maybe there is a mysterious connection, and the entire universe is somehow interacting with this song.
I am a huge liverpool fan from greece,my favourite band is the stone fucking roses and this is one of my favourite tracks.screw football teams and cities, let the music of the roses unite us all
@placebo150 I don't see any difference between Utd using this and Liverpool using You'll Never Walk Alone. The Roses were a Manchester band who represented the cultural rise of the city that was taking place at the same time as Utd's growth into the dominant footballing side, plus of course Brown and Mani were/are massive fans of the club.
This song is WAY bigger than any football team, get with it people this is the greatest band of all time. The fact its played at some kick about with a leather ball makes no difference this is the shit right here!
Firstly I hate the term "Human Nature". Secondly I disagree with your first point. I am posting to ask if you are implying that sectarianism by it's presence in current/previous societies justifies it's existence and absolves people of responsibility. So are either of those two things what you are saying?
I would point to the existence of non-sectarian societies throughout history to name but a few.
Lastly would you like to define sectarianism in your own terms, so your point's clear.
Firstly, I am sorry if I seemed a bit glib or curt, character limit was against me.
I am glad that you know your sociology (Mead was not actually going to be my first choice). I am going to do an ad-hoc and say that quite a few societies are moving towards non-sectarianism. I would point to Toronto and Vancouver as good examples of non-sectarian cities if not societies.
@GriefTourist this song is not associated with anyteam ? i watched the cup final and i was happy to hear this song at the end of the programme ? not because my team (rangers) won i would still have been happy to hear it even if we had lost , i was happy because the producers made such a great choice using A GREAT ROSES SONG TO END THE PROGRAMME :)
Leeds United fan here, from Leeds. Naturally I hate the Scum (just like they hate us) but I love this song. The Roses are one of the greatest bands of all time, I won't let the fact my team's greatest rivals play their songs colour my judgement of their truly magical music.
But I guess guess Brown, Squire and Mani being Man U fans was their heroic flaw!
I remember this song, this was the theme song of the BBC coverage of the 2002 Commonwealth Games which was held in Manchester. I would like BBC to used this theme song for the 2012 Olympic Games.
@simeonstokesjohnson I thought it was just me that noticed that! Absolute superb song. This wipes the floor with anything in the charts at the moment, and spits in it's face for good measure.
Kuyt makes it 2-1, makes it 2-1, makes it 2-1.

@11sid The Beatles were a bunch of posers. They suck balls. Stone Roses all the way.

music unites all human beings. regardless of the club we support, the country we are from. the life we live, our culture and the religion we follow, music brings all to one.

There are some very childish football fans out there, this is a fantastic piece of music and should be left at that.

I'm a Bolton fan who hates United but I love this song, music and football have no link. If it's good music, that's the end of it, and this is brilliant.
notlobian4ever 9 months ago 33
@notlobian4ever I'm a D.C. United fan, and I think Michael Bolton sucks, so maybe there is a mysterious connection, and the entire universe is somehow interacting with this song.

I am a huge liverpool fan from greece,my favourite band is the stone fucking roses and this is one of my favourite tracks.screw football teams and cities, let the music of the roses unite us all
placebo150 9 months ago
@placebo150 I don't see any difference between Utd using this and Liverpool using You'll Never Walk Alone. The Roses were a Manchester band who represented the cultural rise of the city that was taking place at the same time as Utd's growth into the dominant footballing side, plus of course Brown and Mani were/are massive fans of the club.

@gazz12345a
Firstly, I am sorry if I seemed a bit glib or curt, character limit was against me.
I am glad that you know your sociology (Mead was not actually going to be my first choice). I am going to do an ad-hoc and say that quite a few societies are moving towards non-sectarianism. I would point to Toronto and Vancouver as good examples of non-sectarian cities if not societies.

pity this song is now so closely associated with a certain team everyone hates
GriefTourist 10 months ago

But I guess guess Brown, Squire and Mani being Man U fans was their heroic flaw!
devtherevLS 11 months ago
I remember this song, this was the theme song of the BBC coverage of the 2002 Commonwealth Games which was held in Manchester. I would like BBC to used this theme song for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Its was only the likes of such bands as the STONE ROSES and EARTH CULTURE that knew how to make such great kick ass music!!

@simeonstokesjohnson I thought it was just me that noticed that! Absolute superb song. This wipes the floor with anything in the charts at the moment, and spits in it's face for good measure.
