  • Allen organs sound very "churchy" and make me want to

loosen my starched collar and slip off my shoes for relief.

Now a Hammond B3 or C3, they make me ready to

jump up, dance and shout, but I'm one of those Holy

Roller people, so consider the source.

You play well, but can't wait to hear when you play

by ear and get on a Hammond for some R&B Praise!

  • I love Allen organs!

  • Have you taken piano before organ or just started on the organ?

  • For only seven months, you actually played quite well for sight-reading. Were you familiar with that hymn, or was that the first time you had ever seen or heard it?

  • Great talent!

  • Wow--you did this with only 7 months of lessons--you have a real gift!

  • Excellent! Keep up the good work playing.

  • Nice Allen. I play and Allen and refuse to play anything else.

  • Is that by any chance a Methodist Hymnal?

  • I suggest visiting a local Rodgers deal. Allen organs are just way to computer sounding. No richness at all.

  • ur very good :)

  • Allen's are just awful... no pedal?

  • Umm.... I really think that you should have better videos I hate the organ. And I want to know who your favorite singer is. Miley Cyrus? Green Day? Taylor Swift? Evanecence?Tell me who. Or is it Bach. If he is a singer.

  • @SilverMist837 don't worry this guy listens to rap and lots of it...

  • Good playing, little dude. I play an Allen with the midi attached. The strings suck, but at least it's more sounds for the organ.

  • Allens are a heck of alot better than Rodgers. I take lessons on a Rodgers, and practice on an Allen. The keys on the Rodgers feel so cheap and plasticy, as well as the stops. The allens fell like they're higher quality, and more solid in how they're built. So if you ask me Allens are the best thing, except for a pipe organ.

  • I played a Protege and thought it sounded OK for a small organ but this one sounds very electronic to me.

My overall choice of the two brands is a Rodgers but they are often "mis-installled" by their dealers.

  • It is nice to see some young blood take an interest in the organ.

  • good job great form keep up the good work if you are ever in nashville i will have to let you play our church organ

  • nice job!! and does the dealer appreciate you doing that ? .....

  • Thanks! and why not?

  • well your not buying it and just hanging out there looking and playing and recording lol... but screw dealers it's a time to get revenge they always play with your head

  • @Thepianoorganist i think so, i played widor's toccata full 7 pages and he said it was fine too

  • Excellent...you should play it on the Wanamaker!

  • or a rogers...allens are poopy

  • @kensingtonpalace

Allens are not that "poopy." They have been around for around 70 years, and they have made many installations, if they were THAT "poopy" as you call them (which they really aren't) they wouldn't have lasted for so long. Also the sound quality of an Allen organ would depend on the acoustics of the room, quality of speakers, etc. So they are not poopy, they create beautiful music, and in my opinion, the ones with external speakers sound best, than the ones with internal ones.

  • maybe poopy is too strong a word. Ive played several Allens and they are indeed nice organs. Rogers and Allens are very similar but i prefer Rogers for various reasons.

  • @kensingtonpalace

I guess 2 reasons are built quality and sound.

  • Maybe the ones after the 80's. But I have an allen organ from the 70's at my church that was serviced a year ago and it still sounds "poopy"...

  • @smog7188

Ugh I own a 70s Allen organ and it sounds HORRIBLE!!!

  • Great job Jonathan! This video helped me learn this hymn when I had an hour to learn it before a Mass. Thanks for sharing your talent. The world is lucky to have an organist like you.

    Best Regards,

    Matt

  • I have a friend who was organist at a Lutheran church, during his final exams. The preacher had programed "A Mighty Fortress is Our GOD", so the friend thought to himself, I know that hymn, so I'll skip practicing it, and study for finals instead.

So, on Sunday morning, he opens up the hymnal for the hymn, and finds "A Mighty Fortress is Our GOD", in the original rhythm!

  • ??? so what's the exiting part he knows the hymn....

  • (Which is how the Lutherans sing it.) And so, he failed on that hymn!

And that's why we should always prepare for church in advance!

    The End

  • Nice. lol

  • Oh wow. haha that had to suck pretty bad.

  • @octavebasse8 If you look at several of the Lutheran hymnals (including LW and LSB), A Mighty Fortress is in there twice. One is the original (which we use much more often) and the other is the more modern version that everybody else sings. I prefer the older setting. It can be a bit difficult for the novice to sing though, since it's much more disjunct. The modern version utilizes more complete scales which make it easier to sing.

  • Great playing... lovely..James

  • My favorite hymn, I like to CRANK IT UP. Sure wish I could play like you!.

  • The First United Methodist Church in Sunnyvale, CA has an Allen Digital organ with three manuals. The upper part of the sanctuary could accommodate a good sized pipe organ, and even considered one, but financial constraints dictated an electronic organ, albeit an excellent one.

  • When the sanctuary was designed, the church had a pipe organ in mind, and the organ chambers were part of the archetectural design.

  • Thanks awesome performance - Lance † ♫

  • It's amazing...the difference between hearing a Rodgers and an Allen Organ. Rodgers is a FAR BETTER instrument! Sound and Performance! Wonderful job! Keep up the work! We need more organists in the USA!

  • :) Very Nice.

  • You really know your organs! Mine is a 580, with a stand alone Leslie speaker, one of the old ones which has the best sound I think.

  • That was sight read? Well done! *Applause*

  • Very good. I learned on an Allen Protege. Keep up the good work.

  • Hi There,

So I see you love Allen organs. I worked for the company for 10 years and built some of the very model you are playing on in the video.

Keep up the good work kiddo!

I played for 15 years. It's a promising thing to see young people taking an interest in this wonderful instrument.

    Amy

  • that was awesome! how many years of lessons have you had?

  • almost 7 months! haha

  • @AllenOrganCrazy I think you did a great job! I play myself and mostly self taught. Stay with an Allen unless you can play on a pipe organ. To me, Allen's are more true to sound than Rodgers.

  • You are AWESOME dude!! I have an old 3 manual Conn theatre organ, that i like to play around on.

  • That was nice! Thanks.

  • ok didnt need to ask that i can clearly hear pedal!!

  • haha it's ok :P

  • hey there just wandering do you use the pedals yet in your playing yet or are you yet to learn pedal parts

    Joey

  • I enjoyed this! I'm getting an Allen Protege this week, but I play on a Shantz pipe organ at church.

  • Great job, would like to hear you play that hymn and post the video on a pipe organ.

  • Great sound and awesome performance - thanks for sharing - Lance

  • this allen sounds great - and your playing

is excellent -i play an allen ap 17 in church with two large cabinets built into the platform area- the expander is very useful

for theatre sounds and orchestral strings

for a more gospel sound - thanks-post up some more -dav.

  • beautiful!

  • well played the allen organ is a great organ to play.i have posted videos of an allen protege it is a brillaint organ to play

  • Great rendition!!

  • Our church has a C6c with console controller, MIDI Expander II, and HR-100 speakers. It is Heaven to play compared to the old Hammond! The expander is a must if you like variety. The new ones have far more voices, but I am satisfied. I have the Virtual Acoustics set lively and it sounds huge. Allen is the best digital organ in my experience. Keep playing every chance you get.

  • Awesome! yea this one didn't have anything except the knob transposer..but it was fun to play!
