Awesome video! Makes me want to get on the roof and drop my iP4! But I don't see me doing that anytime soon. My only suggestion is that if you do drop the phone again and take a video, dloit without the plastic holder thing. I think you called it a craddle. That way rather than the holder taking the blow the actual otterbox does. Like what if someone is texting near a ledge and someone bumps or stumbles into them? Big case eh? Well, my 3yo son just had a temper tantrum while I was in the garage knockin' up a bookshelf; I left my iP4 in the Defender case on the bench. He picks it up and slams it on the ground with all his might. I think 'oh fuck'. I pick it up, take the iP4 out of the case, and guess what... Not a mark on it. I was thinking about this case, not to protect it from my clumsiness, but to protect it from my 4 year old daughter who plays the games on my phone the minute I get home from work. If it can take the abuse shown here, it can withstand my daughter.

It may make my phone big, but it protects the heck out of it, thats way better than spending $95 on the insurance deductible with Verizon to get it replaced.

i just got my iphone 4 2 days ago and got this case. my first impression was that its huge! but now im getting used to it...it has full protection, every single port and button is covered except the speaker and mic at the bottom and the noise cancelation mic at the top. i use this for everyday purposes at school cuz when i use it in the hallways and walk around i dont wanna drop it, also my school has a lot of stairs so i feel safe with it.

A further problem with this case is that there is not enough interior padding inside to stop the phone making contact directly with the case itself.Rubber exterior is all very well,but not if the case in contact is hard plastic.That means any shock that makes its through the outer layer of rubber,will almost certainly cause the iphone to shatter.As in my brothers phone which fell from his pocket.A fall of just 3FT.A failing of both the iphone and this case.

Mm in reference to my earlier posting about this case.My first impressions of it were good,but there are some problems with it handling the iphone. The plastic screen at the back exposes the ( and let not deny this fact) fragile glass case of the Iphone to getting a bash.The iphone case has been under attack again because of the failings of his supposedly toughened glass used in the iphone.

I would like to reply to you regarding this test.I purchased an otterbox defender for myself and my brother as we both have the new iphone 4.My brothers phone slipped from his pocket,a fall of no more than 3ft..The back of his phone shattered into very small shards.So much for the 5oft fall seen in many promo videos online

By far the BEST otterbox defender review! thank you so much for taking those risks just to test it for this review,. ive had mine for about 2 weeks and dropped it the other day and wasnt even worried at all, very happy i went with this case,..yes it does have alot of bulk but i look at it this way, since there isnt any insurance for this phone besides apple care, id rather have a bulky case that i wont have to worry about paying 6-$700 to replace the phone, This case gives me piece of mind!!!!!

@opemferre its a shame, i agree. They used to (back in the day) do an 'Armor' series which I recieved earlier on in my YouTube debut (lol). Those were SOLID casses. The defender is the strongest case since, no company has come close. Its a shame though that they removed the water aspect and im hoping they're secretly working in the back getting it relaunched.
