  • Muchcos gracias profesor Jason. Yo muy comprehendo

  • quality vid, helped me out

  • you wouldn't say 'hoy es el tres de enero' when talking about today's date.

you'd say 'hoy es tres de enero'.

You'd use 'el' to refer to a specific date that is NOT today.

  • Professor Jason , these lessons are awesome ! This is my first time learning spanish. My major objective to learn this language is so I can read and interpret the LDS book in spanish and be able to communicate with my spanish friends in their language. You do make it easier then I thought it would be. Thanx for your valuable time.and effort you put into these lessons.

  • this has been such a great help

  • Hoy es el quince de junio :) in fact it is today 15th june

  • im in spanish one were singing a very help ful song it will be called...Days of ta week in Spanish

  • Perdiendo el tiempo. Nadie va a aprender español si se lo enseñan en ingles. Use un calendario para q los estudiantes vean y comprendan, en lugar de estar traduciendo al ingles. Ese metodo atrasa a los estudiantes. Use una ilustracion.

  • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I love it!!! Its great!!! You are best!

  • i am taking Spanish as a beginner. your vids are very helpful,

    Gracias Mucho, Profesor Jason. :P

  • No we never say that actually: "Hoy es EL tres..." we, Spanish speakers say: "Hoy es tres de whatever..." see without the : "EL" that shows all the time in almost every sentence with you non-native-speakers. And by the way, what you're doing, isn't that the job of a dictionary?

  • @gatozappa

Depends on where you grew up learning Spanish...it is officially correct to use "el" before the day of the week.

  • Depends on where you grow up learning Spanish. Using "el" before the day of the week is officially correct. And teaching is NOT the job of a dictionary.

quote " visual link spanish is the best spanish course of all time, of all time"

    Kanye West.

  • you're awesome :}

    thanks

  • muchas gracias

you are the best teacher on earth also you are amazing

  • That's cool. I studied French throughout high school, because both parents did, and they could help me, haha. I'm wondering if I will be at a disadvantage now, that more Spanish speaking people are living in the US now.

  • @Jibjub80 No language is useless.

  • I'm curious about something. I don't mean to split hairs, but is the word for "Thursday" in Spanish pronounced

"WEH-vess" (as in "then"), or "WAY-vays" (as in "day"), or somewhere in between the two???

  • That's actually a very perceptive question to be asking... I understand exactly what you mean... it is supposed to be something closer to the "ay" in day than the other sound... but without the diphtongization you hear in English (ay-ee). But the sound you'll hear for "e" will vary slightly depending on the dialect and sounds immediately before or after... See also my video on vowel sounds

  • thanks for teaching me spanish

  • mucho gracias

  • @MrWhisky1000 mucha. lol

  • thanks so much !

im beginner but im learning so fast :D

    thanks really thanks

and if you have any site that can help me i'll be waiting for your reply :)

  • thank you languagenow...i know that spanish from spain is so diffrent from the spanish that we have here in USA...(structure and pronunciation). can you tell me more of this...what is the right way of speaking spanish.

  • @assores69 there is no right way. There simply are different accents, dialects. People here in argentina, for instance, talk differently than people in mexico. I myself i like the fact that there are different ways of speaking spanish. It makes it entertaining. If you meet someone it's fun to try to figure out, whether he is from colombia or venezuela...

  • good job!!! tienes muy buena pronunciacion en espanol.

  • very good not memorized

  • what word would you start with to say like.. "on monday"?

  • "El" El lunes tengo clase de arte.

  • thanks jason.

  • si en verdad sabe muy bien las reglas pero hay un pewqueño error que lo corrigio In madrid esa es la forma nunca decimos hoy es el quince de Enero sino hoy es quince de Enero.

    that´s all for now.

  • Mi cumpleanos ES el dicienueve de marzo!!! You choose my bday! How funny is that!!!! Heheh!!!

  • It's much better if you say "hoy es tres de enero" or "hoy es quince de junio". If you refer to a different date (a date which is not today) you should include "el". For example: hoy es quince de junio. "La Navidad es el veinticuatro de diciembre" (Christmas is on December 24th)

  • Mi cumpleanos es el ventiuno de octubre. y tu? hoy es el quince de septiembre. haha nerdyy all well,

  • i,m taking spanish in ninth grade and just started. i just started 5 days ago. i am a 4.0 student so i'll be checking on your videos. thanks!

  • im taking spanish this year and its helped me a ton

  • can you help us with the dates of the month like the first all the way throught the thirty-first that would be really helpful because my dads part of the family speaks mostly spanish so i need to understand it and speak it

  • i think it´s a really helpful lesson ur pronunciation is god.

yo soy mexicana y pues pienso que usted deveras tiene talento para explicar las reglas gramaticales del español , aveces yo olvido las reglas, aunque es mi lengua nativa..

  • problemas para perdonar america, mexico dios los bendiga y todos los países latinos. gracias

  • Surprisingly same as in Filipino, but different pronunciation. "Kumusta", "Lunes, Martes, Miyerkules, Huwebes, Biyernes, Sabado, Linggo", "Enero, ...., Disyembre"

  • los filipinos tenéis un pasado común con los españoles :D

  • spanish is a hard for me...

  • Spanish is hard even for native Spanish speakers. Lol. There are a LOT of conjugations and all the accents and words. :)

  • C'mon, you never tried to speak Polish :D Both grammar and pronunciation are much, much more difficult than those of Spanish. For instance, Spanish virtually lacks troublesome consonant clusters, which are in abundance in Polish :) Try saying fluently a word beginning with sounds: f + s + t + sh... good luck :]

  • thank you so much for making such understandable/ thorough lessons available. It is very pleasant to learn from your videos.

  • Can we also say "Hoy es el seguno de abril?" or was it just for 'el primero'?

  • ohw.. pilipinas.. share the same pronunciation of the days and months.. though differ in spelling... we had adapt some of spanish languages.. cuz we've been colonized for 300 years.. hehe

  • These lessons are so easy to understand

  • well in spanish MOST words sound similar in english like saturday sabado stuff like tht but some dnt like sunday and domingo

  • do u have any tips on studying?

its really hard for me to learn.

  • Try the Michel Thomas series, though I like this guy here also. Look up Michel Thomas on Amazon.

  • ahh u rock. i'm gonna watch all ure vids. just started taking spanish last monday...hehe.

this is really a big help.

    muchos gracias amigo.

  • Thanks! Your video was very helpful.

  • ive literally just finished school and hes much better than my teacher was

  • I have just started learning Spanish: your videos are a wonderful aid and encouragement. ¡Muchas gracias!

  • de nada! glad you're enjoying them!

  • Thanks! I appreciate the support, glad to be helping!

  • Tiyui you are ignorant! FYI there are about 22 Hispanic countries that do not speak the Spanish spoken in Spain. Our Spanish is as valid, beautiful and competitve as the one spoken in Spain. If you learn Spanish in any country, you can understand each other anyways.

Every country learns the variation of Spanish that is mostly found in the population, or neighbor countries. READ about the evolution of Spanish in South America, and then talk about a "real" language.

  • good point, but when you disagree with someone else's comment, reply to that comment or people might think you are disagreeing with the video itself :) I speak Latin American Spanish, as I am sure you could tell :)

  • You are great help.

    God bless you.

  • "z" sounds like "S" because its latin spanish and teh "z" sounds like "th" because its the spanish in spain language

in fact the mexican language its teh hard language to learn belive me im mexican lol

  • nice pronunciation

  • hmmmm... now i'm confused. my spanish teacher told me that the letter "z" was always pronounced with a "th" sound, not an "s" sound. like, "marzo" would be pronounced as "mar-tho", not "mar-so"... O_o

  • mint, see my comment on c before e and i. The same applies for Z. It only has the TH sound in Spanish. I am teaching a Latin American pronunciation, which the great majority of speakers use worldwide ;)

  • ohhhhh... oh i see. thanks for clearing that up.

  • Correct!

"z" is only pronounced "th" in Spain. We can't reduce 22 Hispanic countries to a single pronunciation. Each country teaches the "Spanish" that is mostly found in its population or neighbor countries. Some countries teach Spanish on a of "standardized" form to be understood in all the Hispanic countries effectively, and believe me, it's not reduced to the Spanish spoken in Spain. If you go to Spain, pronunce "z" like "th". South American Spanish is as valid as the one spoken in Spain.

  • you have to say the z like th

    i am spanish

  • this is not the real spanish... the real one is talked at spain. the differences are more less like british english and american english... please, english people, dont get confused. SPANISH is not like the one talked at south america... please!!

  • amigo gwaping que se cree boxeador, estas clases son para principiantes, OK? Gracias por los comentarios!

  • callate has holl, he speaks a very good spanish, idiot!

  • u freakin rock!! thanks for the lesson.. i got a spanish test on mon, on this same stuff..

  • I'm off to Cuba on holiday - been trawling YouTube for help - really enjoyed your postings. Cheers.

  • very good!! solo como recomendacion, to say what's today's date? it could be like this as well: "¿A cómo estamos?" and u can answer: "a cinco de abril" for example.... well its just an advise.. I hope Ican learn portuguese with your videos!!

  • @mikeimpuls muy cierto cabron esa es la forma mas comun de decirlo

  • haha my birthday is march 19th! these lessons are awesome! im starting to learn spanish on monday cant wait! thanks heaps jason! gracias!

  • glad you like my videos! gracias!

  • i'd say 'hoy es uno de julio'.. 'el primero de julio' is not used! but anyway, nice work!

and your pronunciation is kind of a mixture of both castilian and american spanish.. so cool!!

  • Thanks for posting these. I have a Spanish exam tomorrow and this is really helping. Thanks again man.

  • Don't mention it. Let your instructor and fellow students in on the secret! Suerte!

  • do you speak castilian spanish?

  • hi Freuds, my Spanish is mostly a Latin American variety, so my pronunciation is not "castilian" but American. However, these lessons cover standard Spanish that will work anywhere. Thanks for viewing!
