The lady is misrepresenting history. The word 'Felasha' has no negative connotation and it does not mean 'with out root' as the lady says. The root of the word is 'Felese' which in Geez, the ancient Ethiopian language, and its derivatives Amharic and Tigrinya means 'migrated'. So 'Felasha' can be literally interpreted as 'migrant'. And, no the Felasha do not look different from the other Ethiopians physically.
U all should know that every kingdom that rule the world got to have the israelites as slave for thier kingdom to be successful for as christ say we are the salt of the world, we flavor everything (sports music economy) u name it we are behind everything. U leaders of this world must know that the God of Israel is gonna punish u for all the wrongs u have done to his people, enjoy the riches of the world while it last Shalam.
We all know that the real jews and Israelites was carried away into captivity to the western world during the Trans Atlantic slave trade. Why are we acting like we dont know that. The God of Israel root us up out of the land of Israel for not obeying his laws and commandments, we should not be running back to Israel for God say he is gonna destroy that whole land with thermo nuclear destruction and clean that land from all its filt and rebuild the kingdom of heaven right there on earth.
@jodiann97 The "real Jews"? That's silly. Look at the genetics of blacks in the Western hemisphere. They are descended from West Africans. DNA proves that. Stop trying to steal heritage from the REAL black Jews - Ethiopians. Be proud of your heritage as an African American, for once.
as far as i knw Felash drived from amharic word "Felese" which means came from somewhere else, or not origineted from where he is living. but it does not mean root less.. every thing has root.
It is a shame to see that some Ethiopian gentiles STILL refuse to acknowledge what they did to the Ethiopian Jews, and still insult them -- even to the extent of denying that calling people who have lived in Ethiopia for thousands of years "not rooted here" means "rootless." But it is encouraging to see one person, IAMMFA1, who acknowledges that is is amazing that after all that was done to them, the Ethiopian Jews still call themselves Ethiopians. They are generous-hearted people indeed.
I dont think this woman is Ethiopian or ethiopian jew!!! she dont look like it!! her name dont sound like it!!, and SHE GOT THE MEANING OF FLASHA TOTALLY WRONG!! BIG TIME WRONG!!!!....I speak Amharic & Tigrigna, and FALASHA MEANS, it means, He/she Originated from somehwere else ( descent of a different race) they were called Felasha's because they were descent of Israel lost jews tribe!!! It's defently do not mean "one with no root" as the young lady stated!!
hi my name is benjamin and i'm ethiopian jew live in israel.
i actually know this girl we use to be at same elementary school. and her name is leah and the name was taken from the bible. leah was jacob's (son of Isaac) first wife befor rachel and i can assure you this girl is a jewish. and belive me she didn't get the meaning of falasha ("Exiles") wrong.
@Naty80 You are an idiot. You dont know the history of Ethiopia I do and it is a negative name to call these people and its on purpose so. There are many other religions in ethiopia but they are not discriminated as the jews. There are people from somewhere else they are not called that name that was only for the jews. There is discrimination of taking the land and not letting them be in certain trades etc... Go read the history.
I would like to comment on the term "Falasha' I believe it is an Amharic/Tigregna term derived from the old Ethiopian known as Geez. According to Liya, the younge lady on this very clip it means 'one with no root' I see contradiction here. The term Falasha doesn't mean one with no root. It implies that one is origianted from somewhere else. It may however may suggest that one doesn't have root at the very place he or she is called Falash, such as Ethiopa.
THIS IS VERY SAD, THE ETHIOPIAN HEBREWS HAVE SOLD THEIR SOULS TO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT TREAT THEM FAIRLY. THEY HAVE SOLD THEIR BIRTH RIGHT TO A PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT THE REAL HEBREWS. THIS IS REALLY REALLY SAD
They didn’t sell their soul. It is like for Muslims to go to Mecca. By the way, let us not forget they were oppressed for a long time by us. They couldn't even own land in a very country they were born. As if that was not enough they were called Kayla (evil eyes). The misery they were subjected to cannot be explained in words. I admire them for not holding grudge against us. They still call themselves Ethiopian. If I were one of them, I would not.
The original meaning of Felasha could have gained a negative definition over time.
