You reward the child with good behaviors and ignore/take privileges away for bad behavior. It has worked for my family. My son is well balanced and pretty much well behaved. Try it some time.

@BlackRainbow1992 i disagree. a swat on the butt was always a last resort with my kids. i can count on both hands the times i did it to either of the two of them. of course i tried other methods. i only hit them on the butt, with my open hand. and it was for something serious. my youngest son ran from me at sam's once, and thought it was terribly funny that i was frantic. he got a swat on the butt for that. and the day my oldest ran in front of a car, he got a swat for that.

You know you can punish them without hitting them (taking away their privileges or time out). That's just a way for your kids to hate you that much more. Physical Abuse is not good. It impacts the children emotionally later on in life. Take it from me. I have had a large belt on my rear, soap in the mouth, slap in the face, broomsticks on my back and legs. I have had counseling for this because of it.

You need to learn the difference. Yes, the child abuse laws have prevented some mistreatment of children. However, the state has been far more abusive than the parents in many cases. Child neglect, child mistreatment, child beatings all allowed by the state but not the parent. Think about that.

If these kids are ever out of control its probably because they've had cameras in their faces since birth. They feel entitled, at the very least. Beating a child causes them to fear and distrust a parent. A spanking lets a child know their place and to respect authority. It also hleps them when they are growing up and when they become adults to know we all have to understand there is a place and time for all things. When you become an adult there are no more spankings, just jail time. I so loath adults that think its funny to say and do what ever they want. Raise a child in the way they sholud go, and they will not depart from you.
