They commented about Green's block, but no one ever mentioned the tremendous block by the FB, Damon Stell. He went in motion, and occupied the CB from the snap of the ball. He has the guy pinned along the sideline
Great memories for me in this game. I won $500 bucks from a buddy of mine who was a die hard 'husker fan.Only thing was I lost it going double or nothing in the '88 NCAA hoop tourney.
Free Safety took a horrible angle, and over-pursued. OU blocked it perfectly. Good rivalry there, and I have respect for OU if I have respect for anyone besides the Huskers.
I wish college teams today would go back to their college style of play of years ago(wishbone, triple option, student body right, T-Formation) instead of the pro style offenses they run now.
Maybe the wishbone worked so well in the Big 8 because Nebraska was slow, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri were absolutely brutal. Oklahoma State & Colorado were not even competitive until the late 80's.
That 1987 Nebraska defense was not slow. They were an athletic bunch. On this play, Nebraska got burned because of a violation of a basic tenet in defending an option run play -- do not overpursue. Nebraska overpursued, OU blocked the play very well and there you have it.
Let me add that that's why teams ran the option. It's hard to defend. Look at how current national champion Florida is incorporating the QB run game into their system. It's the same concept. Hat-on-hat offensive football is hard to defend if it's executed.
How many of u guys remember the famous words of Steve Taylor QB for Nebraska during the week of the game. THEY CANNOT PLAY WITH US!

Why did they play in Lincoln two years in a row?
The 1986 game was also played there, and that's the one that Keith Jackson made the one hand catch followed by a game winning field goal.

One Question: Why did the Sooners have to go to Lincoln (not that it mattered since the Sooners won both games) two years in a row?

Nice freaking effort, Leroy Etienne (#47)! Looks like a Kevin Cosgrove defense on that one!

Unstoppable ... until they played Miami.

The OU wishbone was unstoppable back then. I'll never understand why they junked it.
