I think the Zeppelin feel comes from the heavily processed drums. Bonham was a fan of the processed drum sound and you can hear it on songs like When The Levy Breaks, and Moby Dick.

The song was written by the bass player. Its about his girlfriend that was depressed all the time. This tune was the original way they wrote it. The album version has such a happy tune to it; I always found that to be pretty funny

This version is a lot darker. The original version is almost in celebration of having a lazy life. This version is a complainant to that kind of life. "it rips my life away" takes on a whole new meaning.

I like the original version better simply because of the happy tune with darker lyrics that gives it a facade of happiness when the overall theme is melancholy, it gives the song more meaning because that's how it happens in real life. Depressed people pretend to be happy, and if they didn't say anything you'd never know something was wrong, and I like that reflected in the original version.

I saw Blind Melon perform this live as an intro to the "regular" version on Saturday Night Live in 1994. I have searched and searched for a copy of that performance, but it does not appear to be found anywhere! I have tried to relate to several people how incredibly moving that performance was, but words can't convey how truly different this take on the song is.
