No. The original Version had The Beatles original version of "With a little help from my friends." I think this is one of the best scieince fiction movies and adaptions that were ever made for TV and when PBS was a more creative force. The Joe Walsh version of this song is like nails on a chalkboard in comparison.
I remembered the part where the Beatles song was playing, but not in detail. However, after seeing this version I was a little confused, cuz I know I heard the actual Beatles version in what I remembered from so long ago, and the scenery seemed much more surreal and ethereal, not plain and 35mm-ry, like this one. Memory is amazing. Fuzzy memory, so much more so.
This is the re-released version made from parts that were taped on Betamax that viewers donated to PBS. The original was, believe it or not, foolishly thrown out by PBS employees. That's why there is no Beatles' on this. They weren't able to get the rights to air it again. The original Lathe of Heaven as it aired on PBS in 1980 had The Beatles performing their hit, "With a Little Help from My Friends". If you have that version, whatever you do, keep it safe.
Okay I'm sorry, I don't get it. Why are all the people standing stock-still at the beginning of the outdoor shot, and then suddenly they start moving? Just an artistic touch of the director, or did I miss something? It bugs me, I remember it from the original broadcast; doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the film's story and stylistic approach
At 9:05, George runs down the stairs yelling, "Penny! Penny! Penny!" and knocks on the door. Was anyone else reminded of Sheldon in "Big Bang Theory"?
@TheLourdes2009 let's see this was made released in 1980, John Lennon was shot in Dec. of that year. Presumbably , yoko took control of John's estate and also partly of this song given that it was made later under the apple label as opposed to the capital label(whose songs they had lost control over) . Once Yoko was involved, she probably withdrew the consent(for whatever reasons) that John gave. This is all speculation on my part and maybe the foundation I set up is faulty.

I love the alien. "Clarity is pleasurable" is such a great line.
