of course bearings have to do with speed, but you don't have to go out and buy bones swiss 6 or something more expensive, once you wheels can freespin for at least 3:30 seconds then they can not make you go any faster, the wheels make the biggest speed difference, the larger the wheel the faster you will go, try riding a skate, board then with 51mm wheels or so, the put longboard wheels on it around 70-75mm with the same bearings and see which one goes faster ;)
the bamboo gives you enough flax with out being too bad where you have no pop coming out of corners, bamboo is a great material for cruising and beginners, but if you want a fast board go with a flex deck, such as a never summer heist, or a sector 9 tri-lam, both very fast, cheap downhill boards
bearings make the biggest speed difference, then wheels, then deck, some decks distribute the weight better and off the trucks, bigger wheels allow more travel in a shorter time, and bearings make the wheels spin easier
@peoplecallmehannah well the bearings are for speed the lighter your deck adds speed and the wheels hardness depends on how much terrain it can handle
@peoplecallmehannah bamboo is an incredibly flexy and strong wood, so you could probably jump on your deck like a trampoline and not snap it.
as for speed, the deck is usually for stability and how comfortable it is when you're bombing/sliding/carving, and the wheels impact the speed a lot.
a higher durometer will let you slide a lot more, and i think it goes faster, and a lower durometer grips the road more, and is smoother. bearings help a lot too. try bones bearings :D
that board looks awesome. I have a sector nine 55 inch nose rider and i took a skill saw and cut it to look exactly like the board in this video.
Now, i call it the death board. I was a good little idea but it completely threw the mechanics off on the ride. ;*( I still ride it but i wont bomb with it that would be a definite suicide.
how does it carv?

Nice! Seems really smooth! Were you just riding down a road on a gradual slope or something? Is this your first (made yourself) longboard?

the bearings deff have alot to do with your speed..you need to keep them clean and they will last longer and go much faster
