  • Herod is the best friend ever ;)

  • Wow Brenard Hill as the guard. . . .

  • Its interesting the BBC tried to get Charlton Heston for the role of cladius i thought it was a good move on his part not take the role Derek Jacobi made and owned in that role it was and will allways remain his finest perfomance i don't think there are many actors out there that can come close to his ability and he has since this perfomance done well but he will never top it and i don't think he minds that one bit.

  • 7,10 is the taxi driver Don Brennan from Coronation Street. Boy, did his minicab get about!

  • I Claudius is a beatiful books and a beautiful series!!!

  • Excellent

  • Thanks, zuesbark, for posting this series. You the fuckin' man/woman!

  • One of the greatest monologues ever :-) And it came from this!

  • wait, the praetorian Guard at 2.50, isnt that Bernard Hill? it looks like him and he sounds like him

  • @IvanBeSerious Yes it is. This series is packed with british actors who are quite famous now.

  • @IvanBeSerious it is him see credits from episode 9 gratus bernard hill

  • Love the series!!!

  • i don't like the actor who played Herod, his accent annoys me.

  • sometimes Claudius looks like John McCain

  • @jackie4964 Is he "somebody's fool"?

  • @jackie4964 LOL yeah and Sarah Palin could be his successor. And we thoguht Caligula was bad.

  • Claudius was nobody's fool.

  • ooo!!...all those senators laughing at claudius!!...dont piss of a claudius dudez!!.walking a fine line there!..as im sure cicero woud confirm..;))

  • By this time, the Praetorian Guard had become like a mafia, not only protecting, but heavilly influencing the senate and emperors.

They may still be running the show, for all we know. In fact, i believe the CIA call themselves the "Praetorians", so it really is a little spooky.

An old school master of mine once said "Remember this: NOTHING ever changes, only the technollogy we use".

It is SO true. Nothing changes unless it HAS to. Even uniforms change as little as possible.

  • sounds right to me

  • Very true...but people who rely on static holds of power are always subsumed by the torrents of ambition and fortune. As Machiavelli understood, when power is taken, it is rarely lost, but when power is taken for granted, it is easily lost.

  • sounds about right

  • @mikeybrumbrum you clearly know absolutley nothing about anything the cia isnt the mafia its th ekgb and mindlessly regurgitating lies and blatant myths conjured up by the commie "media" shows a serious lack of intelligent and any investigation. kim Philby recruited and staffed the CIA Colby, Dulles, Ames, etc. all red agents

  • didn't herod agippa died before Caligula?

  • Herod has attracted my attention, too.

He built the new temple, and replicated Rome in Israel, with a Collusseum, Theatres etc., built to the same spec as Rome.

And he had 2000 jewish priests trained as "master builders" to complete the religious works (to exercise and keep their religious perfection).

He was EXTREMELY successful, and liked by the Romans, until he rebelled against Rome, after declaring himself ot be the messiah.

His tomb has now been found, and appears FREEMASONIC in nature!

  • They found his tomb? Lol how can you lose a kings tomb?

  • @Nerpha Very easily they were buried in secret to avoid looting of the tomb, They are still finding long lost Pharoes tombs in Egypt.

  • He died before Claudius died before claudius, and 15yrs after jesus.

He was the one jesus called "false jew". he and his men.

Herod trained 2000 jewish priests as "master builders and architechts", and they built the new temple in caesaria.

  • Comment removed

  • he was half jew, half arab.

thats why teh jews wouldnt allow him in the temple, which he paid to build.

  • The intro is visually and acoustically terrifying - brilliant musical interpretation.

  • Love Herod's entrance.
