The man is a legend. Just the fact that he grew up there is bound to attract his hardcore fans to visit. Naming things after him & having a "Dylans celebration Day" helps attract fans/tourists even more & that helps the town's economy; which is probably why they're obsessed with him.

And there's no quote of Dylan saying he hates Hibbing; he just had too much talent to stay in a small town like that. Plus he has 3 sons & 2 daughters (3 if you count the adopted one), not just Jakob.

He might hate Hibbing who knows. He left Hibbing because he felt to crowded, he couldnt do anything there. Same reason he left Minneapolis when he moved there originally from Hibbing for New York because he knew NYC is where he needed to be. He said so in his book Chronicles Vol. 1. He never mentioned hating Hibbing. He actually talks pretty positive about his northern roots on the iron range.
