  • 07:40 - Whoa! Don't let the antenna knock the Palm outta yer hand! >:Þ

  • Hi Hi......all that crazy work in the parking lot, and no SAT acquisition. Happens to the best of us Randy!

  • Those amature things out here in mass, Listen to them all the time.

  • Dear Randy,

I really enjoy your Top Gear Radio Amateur Video's I wish we could more people doing this.

  • I wonder, will there be any future announcements of moon bounces? I am now stationed in Japan so I should at least be able to pick up something. Right now I'm just running off of a VX-6r until the ICOM mobile rig arrives (With the rest of my equipment) keep up the good work on uploading and documenting your work. I find it enjoyable to watch.

  • Oh you're with me. Since the Alzhiemer's kicked in I am less and less shocked of odd things like people waiting for me in my car. Just kidding K7!

  • well, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that experiences small setbacks like this, and it was actually all caught on tape too. You guys all kept a very good spirit though and remained jovial even though things didn't work out as planned :)

  • We were certainly amateurs that day!

  • its good to see that you made light of it though and still had a blast. It does a heart good to keep things light even when they are not going well. Great vid :)

  • @K7AGE you sould try to listen to these repeaters up here in washington.

  • can u make a video of the mobil antennas u have and the 1s that are on ur car thanks

    73 chris-KC9NRV

  • They are Larsen Glass mount antennas. Randy

  • I like it when Paul looks up as if he's going to see the sat. Natural insticint. We all do it. I use Orbitron for tracking sats. The best out there. freestanding. No need for internet(except kep updates). Tracks up to 4000? sats. Anyhow lots. Tell the guys about it Randy.

  • I liked the forward shot of the road on the drive in. Nice to watch the scenery. Also that jackhammer fellow was quite a persistant fellow at 8 in the morning. :)

  • lol nice job don't try in pull up that website he said nice job tyring to find a snipe lol am kinda hoping to find a arrow for sell cheap i have a arrow vertical up about 38 feet on a homemade tower out of a out bed frame in some hose climbs and tie downs works great but not for ao-51

  • Main thing is all had fun and nobody got hurt!

  • Btw, over horizon phased array PAVE PAWS facility up in Sagamore, MA, is under fire for potential links to cancer clusters in that area.

  • looks like you guys had fun. kd7wwv

  • lol nobody on. at least the 220 worked.

  • how often do you actually transmitte on the satellite frequencies ? - zl

  • Unfortunately, very seldom. The trees have grown below my big satellite antennas which prevents me from rotating them up. Looks like some chainsaw work is in order. Randy

  • hi there , watched your demonstration on finding satellites with the radios and it's great to see people having fun with amateur stuff , but feel that when you actually are trying to find the signal from the satellites , i think when you waving the yagi a bit too fast for the radio to pick it up ; if you just stayed in one spot and slightly moved around , you should get something .

    73's from zl .

  • The main problem was that his satellite tracking was set to a location 2,500 miles away from where we were! So, nothing to be heard at all! Randy

  • what do u mean wen u say 450 radio and 220?

  • 450 and 220 MHz. Randy

  • build your own antenna

  • Ha, I can to relate to the first part of the video when you're calling an no one's there! Quite funny.

  • No such thing as failure in ham radio...just new ways to learn....hehe. Fun video, though...great bunch of guys out there. I just finished my sat setup based on your tripod mount and also the mount that KG6WHO uses for two radios. It works really well...made several q's so far...now I just have to get my movie making software to cooperate and I'll upload a vid or two!!!

  • Hi Randy,

tnx for nice video and info.

    tnx in advance.

  • HI, it is sold by Arrowantennas. Randy

  • Gosh dang, I wish more young guys my age were into this stuff cuz that looks fun to do with a bunch of friends! ; )

  • i down loaded the program obitron and i cant get the AO-51 sat

  • You can do that with a handheld? Does that mean handheld are capable of long distances?

  • Well line of sight. The satellite is about 500 miles up. Not bad for 5 watts and a few db of gain. If you were on a tall enough tower, you could do the same between a couple radios on earth! Randy

  • Used to work out of W.Sac for FedEx and would find myself all over the area including Grass Valley! In fact I think I used to use that same 440 machine before I moved to Japan. Now I stand in my apartment's parking lot doing the same thing as you guys in the video; waving an arrow antenna around looking for the next satellite pass.

  • Great video! Very well produced! I hope we get to see some more of the Flower Garden club in the future!

    Peter

  • I am curious about your 44 element beam I bet you could get some could repeaters.

  • great video, I'm dying to try sats one of these days, 73s KD8HGU

  • Too cool.. just found this video.

I used to work A0-14 all the time before it died.

    Great video.. 73 De W6UTC :)

  • Check out my other AO-51 video. Enjoy. Randy

  • Looks like you guys had some fun. The audio sounded really great:-).

    73, Rudy King KC0GQT

  • Thanks, I really try and have good audio on my videos. Audio really makes a big difference. There are so many videos with no sound or no narration, so that you have no idea what is going on. Kind of like silent movies! Keep watching. Randy

  • great show man,enjoyed.--vu3sck

  • Great Video Thats what Hamradio it's all about.

  • Seems like a great bunch of guys. Too bad you weren't able to make a contact!

  • all that in your car and you still have empty cup holders!!!!! LUCKY!!!! great videos

  • Those are microphone holders. Randy

  • Man I wish I was hangin out with you guys, retired and playing radio. I use a FT-847 w/ a pair of eggbeaters for the fm sats. I was stationed U.S.A.F. at Mather so I know right where you guys are . Great video. Keep em commin.

  • Ok - it was all my fault. The Palm program Pocketrak was working properly, the radio and the Arrow antenna were FB, the time and date were set correctly, but I was NOT in Maine!

  • nice mobile setup randy. 73, Curtis

  • That was one of the best videos you have made yet Randy! we have a Saturday morning ham breakfast here at the local mall we all hang out at .

  • Good job Randy, you guys are a hoot!

  • I added a link to N1ASA's DOWN TO EARTH paper which explains the correct method to operate the satellites. Look in the notes section.

  • LOL, I feel your pain. I got into sats last summer. made a few contacts but I needed more arms/hands to do it all. Too busy. Started with homebrew arrow but found cross-polarized yagis for each band worked better. I'd put them on camera tripods and adjust during the pass. The neighbors thought I was nuts. Eventually tired of it and went back to HF. Cool bunch of guys you meet with. 73, Mark WA5VQM

  • Yes you can be like a one arm paper hanger. I haven't fooled with satellites in couple of years. So, we gave it a try. Yes when you start playing around with antennas, the neighbors start keeping a close eye on you.

    Randy

  • Glad to see a new video Randy...
