Great review, I want one but the polished blade would be preferred.. I saw somebody polished theirs up pretty nicely but didn't look as good as this. After you watch this search youtube for Tom Waits song "What's he building in there?" Same exact voice!
@shibdiby These knives were prototypes I bought at a gun show when they first came out. I understand that now they quit the satin blades and are putting a lousy looking stone wash , and the logo is stamped on the blade.
@donotstealmythunder It's not the best I've ever seen but it isn't the worst either , and it is easy to re sharpen as opposed to some of the harder higher end steels
Well I liked the knife when I first saw it because it was so heavily built and the workmanship was great for a knife made in Taiwan. Your right 440C isn't the best in the world , and if I owned a cutlery company none of the 440 family would be my first choice of blade steel. This is why I've never invested in a Entrek knife , I think they are way way over priced for 440C steel , although Quietbearr would argue LOL, he's our 440 advocate. I just got the Spyderco Resilience and I'm liking it.
okay u have a really deep voice like wow lol . another thing i dont really care for boker because the main steel that they use for their knives is 440c. i dont really care for any of the 440 family of steel. but still a really good knife review. but u should get the spyderco tenacious full spyder edge, amazing edc. around 56 bucks. but why was ur knife so damn much for suck low quality steel. i mean at lest get D2, it rust qwike as hell but holds a better edge from what ive heard. idk though.
@dany1441 I got this knife at a gun show when it was first released. I'm guessing that the first few were polished out and afterwards the factory decided that stone washing the blades was less labor intensive than the mirror finish. In my personal opinion , I think these days all this stone washing , bead blasting and the so called black tactical coating ( which I believe has no place on a stainless blade ) is just an excuse for the manufacturer's to skip the final fit and finish.
@dany1441 Yes , things like stone washing and bead blasting are great ways to hide scratches and imperfections. What a lot of people don't realize is , when you mirror polish a blade , it closes the pores in the steel making it moisture resistant. Dip a mirror polished blade in water and the water beads and rolls right off. Bead blasting and stone washing opens the pores in the steel which can cause moisture to become trapped in the pores thus causing corrosion. Even stainless steel can rust
Check out Cutlerylovers video on the Entrek badger. he gave a demo of some batoning and some crud from the wood became trapped in the pores of the blade and he can't get it out. Now the blade is permanently stained
Is this one made in Taiwan or China?... I have a Trance thats made in Taiwan and the fit and finish is excellent compared to the magnum series that come out of China.. I also have a RAT ONE folder thats made in Taiwan and it also scores well in the fit and finish dept....
@SharpeningNut It is a very well made knife but after using it a few months , it really doesn't keep a sharp edge very long compared to my Kershaw Tyrade.
I wonder what the heat treat is like on this knife , Tyrade is d2 which is a great steel and would out cut 440c kershaw do make some of the best value knives out there.
The add said it's treated to HRC 56/58. It sharpens up very well , when I'm done with it you can shave with it , but after a few cardboard boxes and feed sacks the edge starts to weaken. The Tyrade holds an edge for weeks at a time. That CPM-D2 is great steel
@sirarrowmen I'm really not either but I saw it as a chance to get a good work knife with a little thickness to the blade without spending $200 + . Then after you spend that much you don't wanna bang it up LOL.
Nice review and blade man. You know alot of folks get down on 440c; and for some examples out there, with good reason. But Boker is known for doing an awesome HT on their 440c. They really get near the most from it. It is a very very capable steel when done well. I originally heard about this knife on Bladeforums (recent thread) however the version in the thread, and link, was a stonewashed finish if I remember. Anyhow, thanks for sharing!
@RoushafiedCobra Yeah 440C isn't the best steel around ( which is why I think Entrek knives are way over priced ) but then again it isn't the worst either. It's a good mid range steel , holds a half decent edge and it's easy to re sharpen for the beginner.
Actually I've had a few people tell me that the specs say the blade has a matt finish. I got this one at a gun show when the model first came out. Maybe they're matt finishing the blades now.
That's a seriously beautiful knife, Man! And have to agree with you on this one, damn hard to choose a ZT over one of these.. I'll have to pick one up sometime! Awesome!
Common everyday cutting tasks. I can say one thing after seeing this knife , if this is they type quality they are turning out in Taiwan for these kind of prices the American cutlery industry will probably collapse.
@bladetalker that happens with a lot of knives though so...Specially since there are quite a few knife designers that jump between companies....

@Taz0161 I quite like stonewash, it's cool and effective at hiding small scratches.
No doubt mirror polishing is expensive, but it's not required, even if it is very nice to look at.
