  • I love those quotes. About the living on your feet and knees thing... But which is like, the better one?

"You're a shameful opportunist! What you don't understand is that it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees."

    OR

"You had it backwards. It's better to live on your feet than to die on your knees"

Not quite sure... But i'm thinking the first one..?

    Anyway, some damn amazing lyrics.

  • would i get in trouble if i edited this song for my character on wwe 12

  • Why the fuck haven't i heard this one before?! :(

  • Intro is a reading from one of the greatest books ever written; Catch 22.

Deep as it is, this scene takes place at a whore house ^^

  • This is what the US army should sing to the president ;)

  • RA makes me wana charge into D.C. with some speakers and have them listen to RA while i punch each of them in the face.

  • Where they got the motto "it's better to die on your feet than to die on your knees" at the war at 1812, America was being boomed by British ships and when the British got on shore dead americans were holding the American flag and someone said "it's better to die on your feet than to die on your knees. Thats how the star spangled banner was made(the American national anthem).

  • @halonerd69971 I'm pretty sure the saying is "It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees."

  • @styleugly16 Yeah i know, I meant to say "it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees"

  • "What are you talking about? America's not gonna be destroyed!"

"Never? Rome was destroyed, Greece was destroyed, Persia was destroyed, Spain was destroyed. All great counties are destroyed. How much longer do you think your own country will last? Forever?"

"You're a shameful opportunist! What you don't understand is that it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees."

"You had it backwards. It's better to live on your feet than to die on your knees"

    For anyone wondering no prob

  • @GigaDrainCradily not all great country's where destroyed, england has never been destroyed but yes i suppose nothing lasts forever, neither life nor country.

  • @R0FLINABROTHEL Well, while not destroyed, Britain was pretty damn close to destroyed in the air raids by Germany. Their nationality wasn't but their country was. However, I do believe in the idea, that with the power-hungry leaders of today, the greatest countries will bring their own undoing by relentless thirst for power and wealth.

  • @dChad014 Agreed they dont care about the people just how much they're earning and how much power they have gained or are trying to gain. The human race is its own undoing we destroy the only habitable planet known and think nothing of it. If there is intelligent life out there anywhere they would know to stay well away from us because if we are willing to destroy our own world what would we do to theirs. Everything has a begining and end its the path that makes us strong. Respect bro.

  • @GigaDrainCradily He also says "Why not yours," after, "All great countries are destroyed," but I ran out of characters.

  • I love Rise Against, but come on. the intro guy talking is weird...

  • @icillu Not at all, IMO.

  • Great song.

Good meaning to the song too.

It shows Americans being so Naive...

  • i like the talking the best :D

  • This describes first world society.

  • seeing them in a month! can't wait!!!

  • @I3ULL3T96 they opened with this two weeks ago. Didn't see it comin, but it was FUCKIN AMAZIN!

  • @Bleach7Chelseafanx sweeet!! i'm seeing them in 2 weeks! really hope they open with this !! :)

  • I wish I could have listened to this band earlier, I'm seeing them Friday and it wouldve been nice to know more songs D:

  • no band is perfect...because if they were EVERYONE would like them...no band has reached that

  • @BloodZion727 And a band who listened by everyone can't exist.Thats impossible you're right.

  • Seeing them in concert tomorrow! So excited! :)

  • @MikkiLovesPrada ME TOOO!

  • like if rise against is the best band

  • The guy in the beginning sounds like Al Pacino.

  • say good night america korea is gana come at us soon

  • @johnnyrelie y catholic?

  • for every body saying that they could play black ops zombies to this i consider that disrespectful to the people that this song is toward

  • fk yeah RISE AGAINST!!!... ... \m/ \m/

  • .....america turned fat...thats how we got destroyed =p

  • i have this album

  • i feel you can play cod zombies playing this song

  • @flamedude333 I sense a 8 year old.

  • Look up Baxtor - Burden. It's the orginal song where the intro to this song came from. (Tim's orginal band)

  • @UncalledForGiraffe Yea, thats true, i know baxter. I like Baxter. But I wouldn't say Baxter was Tim's 'original' band, i would prefer saying it's one of his bands he played/sang in.

  • @Tischdecke Well I do believe it was his first big band, if you would even call them big.

  • 2:24 - 3:00, fuck yeah !

  • "I fought your fight

    bought your lie

and in return i lost my life"

    Caralho, that's intense

  • can we stop the political "debate" that is going on? We all get the issues in this song and they are deep, major issues as all of Rise Against's songs are based on. I came here to enjoy the music and PrancingGazel, it takes 2 people to engage in a conflict, you've corrected yourself by saying you should try and walk away, why don't you walk away from what joeymanny1 is saying and vice-versa.

  • @lyrcmn6795 alright, i doubt i'll change his mind anyways so I will

  • @lyrcmn6795 or that he'll change mine

  • 2:37 to 2:49

    I love this part :)

  • @Absolution913 I LOVE U TOO :/

  • america won't last forever. no country will. politics is a dirty game you just have to avoid it and live peacefully, cause you know? this world will never know peace as long as evil politicians are there :)

  • rollingstone(.)com/politics/photos/the-kill-team-photos-20110327

I respect our soldiers, but this ones are the kind of fucking scumbags that give a bad name to others.

  • this fucking song is so fucking true sadly

  • its better to die on your feet than live on your knees.... you have it backwards, its better to live on you feet than to die on your knees...... these were great words, it tells you its not die with respect or live a slave, but really us dieing is because we are slaves, we live if we have respect, it tells us that it isnt a tough choice, you dont loose anything by choosing ..... w.e it may be, im kinda sketchy on it, but the choice is litterly all or nothing, its great words spoken

  • @Sukuli100 Ah, the ignorance of someone who has never and god willing will never see real conflict.

  • @Wolfezth but these "real"conflicts can be so easily avoided by just walking away, how many people have to die, in war, in gangs, in prison, even family conflicts, either mentally or physically, i have avoided a lot of unnecessary conflict by simply walking away, all "real" conflicts festure from the ground up, starting with something that could have easily been avoided

  • @Sukuli100 you have no clue what you are talking about. Wolfezth was right. Walk away from this war thats going on? we still have terrorists. what, you want more things to get blown up? Walk away from a Gang? only if you want your whole family to die before you. Walk away from a family conflict? that just makes things worse. you have never seen real conflict, and walking away is never the answer. It just makes things worse. You are to idealistic for your own good.

  • @joeymanny1 im saying walk away from them before the point of no return, the curent wars and gang fights are to far in to just walk away from, but they could have been avoided, but now we just have to hope future ones may be avoided and end this unnecessary cycle

  • @joeymanny1 Has America weakened terroism at all? No, we've made the Islam world even more pissed at us than it was before. Sometimes you can't walk away, but right now we could and should, and it always takes two sides to make a conflict. Conflict can solve a problem, but will inevitably cause more problems than it solves.

  • @PrancingGazel Yes, we have weakened Terrorism. We killed Osama bin Laden. And did we Piss off Islam in General? No, we just pissed off the terrorist side of it. You don't even know what your talking about. How about this. you go, study the reasons why the war started, then come back and reply to me once you know what your talking about.

  • @joeymanny1 Can you honestly say that the people who had their families killed by NATO soldiers aren't angry? Whether those killings were accidental or not, there will be pent up emotions. Killing Bin Laden? We may have ensured a temporary lapse in attacks, but even if Islam terroism dosen't come back hatred breeds hatred, and Terroism is coming from new directions. Don't forget that the 2011 Norway terroist attacks were against Islam, not the west.

  • @Sukuli100 Furthers my own point. I really, really truly hope that you and everyone else who shares your point of view never have to experience real conflict. I really do.

  • @Wolfezth well, your point of view doesnt seem to be able to be changed at this point, and neither does mine, regardless of whatever we say to eachother we arnt really going to change anything, this may have been a nice little arguement with you but it is heading nowhere, and i have grown quit bored of this game, i wish you well good sir

  • All gave some, some gave all... Brilliant, just brilliant.

  • @awesomesis i believe its I gave some, some gave all. but i could be wrong

  • To Tischdecke : how do u make a lyrics video?

  • 0:06 What are you talking about? Narnia is not gonna be destroyed :3

  • This song, has so many great lyrics.

"They send our daughters and our sons to deserts under burning suns, a sacrificial slaughtering to fill the pockets of the weak"

This as well as many of these lyrics are fantastic Me and my war buddies used to listen to Rise Against quite often and frankly Nikita has the right idea here. Its better to live on your feet than die on your knees. Oor-ah fuck em boys.

  • @ThePetology He says "Its better To die On your Feet than Live on Your Knees." But what You put Is an Even better Idea.

  • THANK SCIENCE that Endgame wasn't as bad as Appeal to Reason.. However, what sucks, is that the only songs ppl know from this album are the radio-friendly, mainstream ones. Quite sad.

Still not as good as anything from Sufferer before

and definitely not as good as REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE which is the best fucking album ever.

and fuck Interscope, go back to Fat Wreck Chords or Epitaph, Rise Against.

  • @AlmostaFlipinSkater siren song of the counter culture ftw?

  • 2:35

  • Baxter - Burden, intro! Nice one Tim McIlrath! Altho it was his first band, and it sounds awesome, so it's fully understandable that he wanted to use it again.

  • This is my favourite Rise Against song ever. All their songs are amazing, but this has to be my fave XD

  • This sounds similar to Boom by System of a Down, but better!

  • So many great quotes in this song

  • They need to make a music video of this

  • @TheMainEvent210 they made an entire game about it its called fallout 3...im not kidding this is the exact same shit from fallout 3 its like its theme song or some shit

  • @gaminginmyblood fallout 3 has nothing to do with this song. but its a great game tho

  • @I3ULL3T96 i dont they most likely didnt right the song for the game but come on it explains the whole thing you have to see the similarities

  • @gaminginmyblood nah i dont get it :D

  • @I3ULL3T96 okey dokey

  • When the rich wage war its the poor who die.

  • @erik2572 not necessarily true, watch the video Disturbed, land of confusion. not trying to start a flame war, just giving my opinion. im not saying yours is wrong or right and im not saying mines wrong or right. im just showing another side you could look at, btw if you watch it.the hooded figure.represents the peoples unity.

  • @taintpetty1 i'll check it out thanks for telling me and btw i severly dislike these massive comment section wars and it would be quite ironic to have one under this video.

  • @taintpetty1 don't forget ten thousand fists in the air.

  • @emROARS another good example thank you

  • @erik2572 linkin park :D

  • whats the genre of this music? im pretty sure its legend?

  • This song is kick ass. Love how it so true War is for nothing god bless those soilders who risk there life for peace.

  • JOHN F. KENNEDY: What'r you talking about? America's not gonna be destroyed

NIKITA DRAGOVICH: Never? Rome was destroyed, Greece was destroyed, Persia was destroyed, Spain was destroyed, all great countries are destroyed. Why not yours? How long do you think your country will last? Forever?

  • @mynameisvain That's not who said this.

  • @mynameisvain

That wasnt JFK. And I'm doubtful that it was Nikita Dragovich. Quit misquoting.

  • @bobbachubchub

    why take it seriously then?

couldnt you take a joke for even once in a while?

  • @bobbachubchub that is true it wasnt JFK and clearly not Nikita.

  • @bobbachubchub even if it wasnt them in the song ever thought that it was quoting something they might have said in the past when they were alive?

  • @briangriffin30

No, because JFK sounds nothing like that guy, and Nikita Dragovich is off a video-game. He had no significance at all in the real world.

  • @mynameisvain dude its not actually historical its from catch 22

  • @mynameisvain the quotes are from the film Catch-22, based on the book by Joseph Heller.

  • @jMb8907 I just recently finished reading that book. It is pretty good book, plus I got the meaning of the concept Catch-22.

  • @jMb8907 Emiliano Zapata. Google it.

  • @mynameisvain You actually used a CoD reference for a Rise Against song... kinda pathetic.

  • @MagiculMexican

Nikita dragovich was a real person. He wanted to kill Kennedy to bring down America. All of the call of duty missions are based off of real missions. Just saying.

  • @randomusername2341 So the missions are based on people, or what? Because the whole story seems like a some conspiracy crap.

  • @MagiculMexican

Some were. A lot were, a lot of the missions were based on real missions, and the characters are the names of real people too, most of them, that is. Dragovich did want kennedy dead so america would collapse. At least, that's what I've always heard. It's hard to find any good information on the situation.

  • @mynameisvain Nope. It's from Catch-22. Completely wrong, bro. It's in a conversation between Nately and the old Italian man in the whorehouse.

  • Plus, where the hell did you get JFK and Dragovich in the same context from? Beyond the huge time gap, I mean...just...what? Really.

  • @thedevilssaints they were both in the cold war wern't they?

  • @thedevilssaints from call of duty black ops

  • @mynameisvain wtf? that isnt either of them genius

  • @mynameisvain He doesn't say Persia...he says Deutschland. As in Germany.

  • @mynameisvain Why the COD referance?

  • for the people that says this song is about war there right but wrong the song is also about how corrupt america is

  • im going to murder 3 fucking people and honor 235 people

  • @Pewpsicle

if youre spreading hate rise against is the wrong band for you...

  • @MrRipper222 yea

  • america is still the one world super power even if they default on cash it will hurt the people we owe money to just as much as it will hurt us

  • "its better to live on your feet then die on your knees"

  • @SlippedPurse america is not a an empire it is just a important country if america falls NATO falls

  • @decino7 Decino7,

I did not say America was an empire. I actully said the exact opposite. Pay attention.

    Thanks,

    ~SlippedPurse

  • the slideshow couldnt keep up @ 2:37

  • Things were different when the great empires of old fell too. The world is completely codependent on everyone. If a strong country like America fell, then no country would be safe.

  • @Narutoowns79 Not trying to start anything, but, again, like so many other people have said, that's disputeable. How do we know that, if America fell, other countries would go on their merry way? I mean, think about it. We don't import or export anything major, China owns half of us, the list goes on. We will be wiped out eventually, just like the OTHER countries will. The Greeks and Egyptians didn't believe they would fall. It's a matter of WHEN not WILL we fall. It may be a 100 years or 1000.

  • @Earthshadow4 Thank you for realising America will end in the future. It's not if but when. And not to sound pessimistic but I think it might be soon as will the UK and a lot of Europe.

  • @emROARS Thank you. And, I don't think you're being pessimistic. You're being realistic, something not many people want to be. They think that by denying open, plain, in-your-face-facts they can delay the inevitable and, unfortunately, that's a mindset that society promotes. Yeah, the truth hurts sometimes, but, wouldn't you rather have the truth and face it then not have it and end up being your own downfall? It can be an interesting concept, if you think about it.

  • @Earthshadow4 Agreed. People of first world nation like the UK and America are arrogant to a default. They think nothing will happen and that the government will keep them safe. Rather sad really.

  • @emROARS -_-0 yup. Quite pitiful when you think about the fact that you BELONG to one of those countries. Not that I'm not proud of my nationality, it's just that the people who make up said nationality can be quite...DENSE at times...unfortunately.

  • @Earthshadow4 And that is what birth certificates are for. As well as the fact that technically children are of the state and are given to their parents. It's sad how people don't know really.

  • @emROARS Can't deny it. Sometimes I wonder about world powers these days -_-0 That's why I wanna move to Japan, lol.

Well, okay, they're a world power, but they're not as...big as America or the UK...

  • @Earthshadow4 Sorry to say but Japan is just as bad. ANY Government can go rotten. Japan for example basically hate Foreigners, which tbh is understandable since they and us have only been in contact for only around 160 years but it still stopped me from going on holidays there. Honestly, absolute power corrupts absolutely and it includes ANYONE of any creed, nation, language and ability. It's best to stay in your home country and learn what you can than be on foreign land and know fuck all.

  • @emROARS Eh, true. Complete Anarchy would be the best option for civilization if it weren't for the fact that humans are greedy and insatable. Unfortunately, this happens to be the case and we get power-crazed governments that start wars and all that oh-so-fun stuff. It's impossible to do anything about and we're left with what we have now: Ignorance among societies and an unavoidable end that no one wants to face. I find myself not pitying anyone. Common sense is obviously lacking, regretfully.

  • @Earthshadow4 complete anarchy is impossible. There is always the need for some form of social order. No matter how large the population is. It has always been this way and will always be this way. How do you think humans were able to survive and evolve. Anarchy is a fantasy, not saying it's a bad one. Just is impossible and will never happen.

  • @jMb8907 I know. I was just saying that if complete anarchy were possible in any way at all, it would probably be better for mankind. But, also, like any other form of government (or lack thereof, in this case) there are going to be pros and cons and even the fact that it IS impossible. Fact of life is that nothing is perfect. HUMANS aren't perfect, no matter how hard some of us try to be.

  • @emROARS yes, uk will fall, but america first. america is in debt over 7 trillion dollars. and in the uk all you hear is cuts, cuts, cuts so uk and usa have no chance of staying up for another 4 or 5 hundred or thousand years dont take this as offensive.. please

  • @markusshimura I'm not because I agree with you. I am not asking if but when.

  • @MrRipper222 but we r not an empire

  • @princessluvv That's disputable.

  • the voice clip in the beginning was actually previously used by tim in his old band Baxter in the song Burden. if you haven't listened to them, you should check it out.

  • love the song

  • Empires fall.

But America isn't an Empire :] Aw, too bad :D

  • @SlippedPurse Yes it is, L.

  • @Sinadins Sinadins,

I do not care what you, a member of the idiotic population that lives on this planet, thinks.

    Thanks,

    ~SlippedPurse

P.S. I understand that you allow music to fill your head with a false sense of intelligence, but just because someone can play a musical instrument or sing well does not mean that they are somehow smarter than one who works at McDonald's.

  • @SlippedPurse Uhh okay, a simple "I disagree" would suffice.

  • @Sinadins Oh im sorry, did i use too many words? Next time ill use shorter sentences.

    ~SlippedPurse

  • @SlippedPurse No, it's that you replied to my comment with false prejudices and assumptions about me. But hey, we're a population of idiots. I also love the fact that you use a signature in a YouTube reply.

  • @SlippedPurse Who's the one who thinks they're a 'mobile suit mercenary'? Stop being 15 and get over yourself, you sound like a cunt.

  • @Salamious

Congratulations you can read! All of the descriptions on my account are for a stop motion series. It is to keep people who watch it up to date with the characters. So yeah i like Gundam, but that doesn't mean anything? "You sound like a cunt" that does not even make sense. I'm not fifteen either, so you can go ahead and make your hollow statements, but it doesn't make anything i've said wrong, or anything you've said right. You can't argue with facts.

    Thanks,

    ~SlippedPurse

  • @SlippedPurse Your name is in blue down the bottom, I don't need the ~. Anyways, you'll get over yourself when you grow up. (Maybe a girl will even touch your penis, who knows?)

  • @Salamious I already have a girlfriend. And get over myself? I'm not the one trying to change what someone thinks, i'm just stating the facts, and it seems that is too much for you to handle. I'm surprised you want to continue this, it was over a week ago? Don't bother replying because i won't.

    Thanks,

    ~SlippedPurse

  • @SlippedPurse America is a empire...

  • @lilman436 liman436,

No it is not. You may believe it is because someone you believe is smarter than you (perhaps a school teacher, uncle, father, etc.) told you America is an empire. America is just a country, and a successful one at that. The masses tend to believe success comes from some sort of greediness or evil because they are incapable of accepting that their failure is their own fault. America is not an empire, end of discussion.

    Thanks,

    ~SlippedPurse

  • Easily of the emotional songs EVER written, it brings me watery eyes thinking about all lives that have been destroyed, sent by higher powers with goals of greed and corruption, Rise Against is one of those bands that makes you think about everyday life, average rock bands sing words, Rise Against sing poetry.

  • @GeneralxGrievousx think this is emotional watch the official video for make it stop (september children)

  • Fantastic song! Rise Against has once again rocked my socks! Love how they dare to sing about stuff like this; instead of just making songs about days of the week, their clothes, and/or breaking up with their girlfriends.

  • america isn't an empire it cant take over canda it has a degree over what they can and can't do and anyway its part of the commonwealth and the british empire wont accept

  • @decino7 Usa can take over almost every country they want to, compared to the british empire, it wasn't ANY deals of protection with other countries, NATO etc

  • i never said all of that wasnt true, im simply saying america needs to take over canada and mexico at he very least before even thinking they deserve the title/status of empire by definition, what u say is true but it still isnt an empire, it doesnt deserve such a title/status, or any "good" title/status period broham (maybe parasite if you want to give it a title since like you said, greed is all there's here).

  • @MrRipper222 keeping secrets from the public has great advantages and disadvantages.

  • lols lyric's my ass. ;/ thx 4 not helping and waisting my time sucker.

  • @MrRipper222 i hope ur not thinking america is an empire brudda "empire- a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government: usually a territory of greater extent than a kingdom, as the former British Empire, French Empire, Russian Empire, Byzantine Empire, or Roman Empire." states dun count as a nation, canada is of its own, as is mexico, from my experience when the word america is uttered then its referencing the 50 states plus D.C.

  • I want to own the other but im poor. but i spent my only 10 dollars on this album and i do NOT regret it. BUY THE ALBUMS. its so worth it just for the lyric book

  • are we so easily decieved?

  • one of the speakers sound like Matthew Gray Gubler (reid) of criminal minds :))

  • So today on the news I heard 31 U.S. soldiers died in a helicopter crash shot down by a taliban troop. I immediately thought of this song. "How many more sent to their graves in this lesson ignored? I fought your fight bought your lie and in return lost my life. What purpose does this serve? What purpose did i serve?" Yeah The U.S. Airforce tracked down and killed these taliban members. An eye for an eye I suppose? However an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. R.I.P. to those soldiers

  • @slowburnatreyu i saw this on tumbr :)

  • No one can write songs better then Tim Mcilrath

  • is intro from anything?

  • @reaper75395 Catch 22 movie
