No we didn't play the entire symphony. We played the 1st mvt of Mahler 2, Pines of Rome, and a piece by Saint Saens. We learned it in 3 days and had 2 concerts. I'm playing 4th trumpet in this movie.
Great group, but i don't get all these USA honor groups...I've never heard of this group! I was in the hersheys all usa band, but it's lame and doesn't actually meet...i wish i'd have known about this...
Yep...it is! Anyone anywhere in the U.S. can audition. The audition deadline for this year has already passed, but it's really fun. I was in it in 2007 and 2008 and you audition using Smartmusic, the computer program. I definitely recommend applying if you're ever interested and thanks for posting the link to the video!
and what i meant was that.. not everyone really knows about this, so they really shouldn't make it sound like they do.. and they probably charge u something just to audition >.>
No...I live in Iowa, so I don't think that I'm allowed...:-D I'm not quite sure what all eastern is...:-( It's probably just one of those things that people in the Midwest don't hear about...:-D
And actually lots of people do know about it and audition every year. They advertise the auditions in popular nation-wide music magazines and it's free to audition. All that you do is print off an application form from the internet, fill it out, send it in, and get your audition material.
I don't think so...:-D I've only heard about this All-Eastern thing within the past couple of weeks. I never knew that there were places in the country that got together the best all staters. I think it would be a great idea to have one in the Midwest though! :-D
Its great to see an orchestra comprised of high school kids playing stuff like Mahler 2. Orchestras at the secondary schools really needs and truly deserve greater recognition and it is a bit of a shame that they are almost always treated as secondary or inferior to the bands.
at my school the orchestra is highly favored over band. we go to places like prague and china to perform our music. whereas as band no one really cares about. exept for one year when the band went to carnegie.
What high school was this? I know that outside of high school, orchestra in general is favored much more than band, from youth orchestras to the large universities and conservatories and all the way to the professional level.
@music4ever131 nope you dont need an accompanist for your recording though i'm not sure how others did theirs

learning Mahler 2 in a week is nothing short of extraordinary. Does anyone know if they played the entire symphony?
