In an interview with Kerrang!, bassist Pete Wentz explained that the song refers to a romantic relationship in which the initial sentiments have perished, but both lovers continue to "sleep with each other" to appease their physical and mental desires.

The line that appears near the end of each chorus, "He tastes like you, only sweeter," is a line from the play and film Closer.
