What pisses me off, is that I cannot get any viwers, subscribers, or even a few comments on half of my videos. Granted, they have misspleings. But I try my hardest, and dnamit to hell if I don't get jack shit from it. Help me out my fellow youtubers.

@IPAWNMYQUEENS That happened to me too. I just sat there for 25 minutes while it just played new movies that were "coming out". All I wanted to do was watch the fucking movie. they wouldn't even allow me to skip them.
It pissed me off to no end. But i starting using ad block plus. And guys, its AMAZING. I now get NO ads on youtube. None on the bottom 20% of a vid, none on the side, or at the beginning and end of a vid. I strongly reccomend it to anyone whos annoyed with advertising

Yeah, in-video advertising would really blow. I hate it when they have people dancing across the screen or hav audio. Like when they have gunshot sounds and you think it's part of the show and your like, WTF! Then you realize they're advertising some crappy Steven Segal movie.
I don't want to see videos with commericals added. Other sites do this, but Youtube doesn't. Thats why I like Youtube so much. If videos are going to be polluted with advertising Im not going to watch them.

I think the thumbs rating is dumb, I don't like that you can't view all the comments on one page anymore but I do like the Spam function. Well good video but the reality is, if people are making money they won't care. Would you boycott YT if that's the only way? mmm I dunno...probably not.
Hmmm...I wouldn't mind making a few bucks out of the 3.5 Million views I've had but yeah - banners and shit across the screen is not the way to go. Well, they claim that these ads are gonna be semi-transparent... but it will still detract, I tend to think. Then again it's only for partner. The thing is, they KNOW that the banner ads don't work. They need to turn a profit, and that can't happen if the existing ads get ignored.

Sorry Hugh, but I disagree. The in video ads are NOT an intrusion, it's an option for partners. In case you haven't noticed (--not trying to be snappy, but it took me a while to notice) there are no ads in any non-partner videos anymore, and partners haver full control of their ads. So, the ads are put there by the video makers. Also, the comment rating system is great, it allows for people to express descent without sprawling flame wars.
Well, if someone's willing to compromise the integrity of their videos for those kinds of ads, the videos it's interrupting probably isn't that great anyway...

I'm with you on this one. I hate intrusive ads. Ads in the middle of shows every 10 minutes, popups, people who hang out at your uni bar and harass you every time you try and enter, trying to sell you some phone contract or something. I stopped watching TV because I got bored with all the ads, I got firefox to block popups, I routinely ignore strangers who approach me in the street, and I'll have absolutely no problem ignoring Youtube partners' videos.
I'm eager to see how the new Ads change the community. I think viewers will be more aware of who is commercializing their channel, while the partners are able to get enough money in order to quit their day jobs. For those who will make it a living, it may lead to a commercialization of the very content they provide.
The viewers will notice/suspect that, and those who aren't in favor of it will look out for non-commercial channels which in comparison will appear as more 'independent' or 'authentic' by default. But basically it's gonna be the usual transition to a commercialised industry like TV/Movies/Music. Also, with the new Ads, we gonna see lots of new people who are just 'in it for the money'.
And the comment system sucks, not coz of the ratings, more coz of the stupid display of 'all comments'.
I don't really like the idea of having the banner intruding videos, especially since it would kinda spoil all the hard work that the person puts into their video. But I think it's much better than having to sit through an entire 15 second advertisement beforehand just to see the video.
I don't like the idea of missing out on part of the video, I could live with ads before, after or even during(Shhh..no one agree with, or else!)the video, but to just have it slapped over the image so I can't F**king see it!! THAT'S RADIO!!!! I go to other sites for RADIO!!

I agree. A lot of work goes into some peoples videos and they deserve the same respect as other forms of art. Sticking an ad over a video is just vandalism. I ignore all banner ads and get annoyed with pre-rolls and big annoying flashy ads but I can accept that some form of ads may be necessary. I think over the play/pause are is a good compromise- it's in your sightline plus people look at it a lot regardless if the watch the video.
The fact is that YouTube and its members have a common interest. We all want to help YouTube/Google design a form of advertising that will not be so incredibly irritating and offensive that it sends both creators AND viewers fleeing to a competitor who just uses big banner ads.
Hugh, I fear you're tilting against windmills. In my view, the entire reason for YT creating the partner program was to forestall a widespread revolt by the most popular content creators when they implemented in-video advertising.
YouTube/Google is a Multi-Billion dollar organization. And yet, they are so ridiculously greedy that they feel the need to squeeze every possible dime out of this web site by inserting ads into videos. And while it is their right to be greedy bastards, they will have to wear the chain they've forged in life.

Thanks for chiming in Hugh, I see where you're coming from, but I guess the compromise has to be made between visibility and likely-hood of ad clicks, and being intrusive. Clearly the banners outside of the vids weren't working well enough for youtube... I'd still prefer this over pre-rolls or some kind of subscription, which are the other options.
i think this could be just as effective right above the vids. Like directly above them where the current video title is. Anyway, i'm not a partner so I guess I dont have to worry about it, i just hate the idea of somebody missing something in my vid because of a goofy ad popping up.

I've heard about the in video adverts and have pre decided that I won't watch any videos where this occurs as it ruins the damn video.
Also, as I watch your video now at least 15% of the very right of my screen is taken up with 'Director Video' links that i'll never use.....put the damn adverts there YouTube.
I dislike the crawlers across the bottom of the screen and how when there is a little bit of weather, my big screen shrinks down to 19" or I have to look at a radar ad nausuem

I don't like living in a cash cow society, but I can understand the reasoning. But, I think some of the extra "special" features added are pointless. I think the thumbs rating is dumb, I don't like that you can't view all the comments on one page anymore but I do like the Spam function. Well good video but the reality is, if people are making money they won't care. Would you boycott YT if that's the only way? mmm I dunno...probably not.

Hmmm...I wouldn't mind making a few bucks out of the 3.5 Million views I've had but yeah - banners and shit across the screen is not the way to go. We came here to get away from fucking advertising - least I did. And I don't agree with this whole elitist Advertising Partners thing anyway. I say we should ALL share in the profits - after all, we've helped YouTube get where they are.

Well, they claim that these ads are gonna be semi-transparent... but it will still detract, I tend to think. Then again it's only for partner. The thing is, they KNOW that the banner ads don't work. They need to turn a profit, and that can't happen if the existing ads get ignored.

Yes, they could put the ads elsewhere but they tested it and found people click most when it's in the movie.

Sorry Hugh, but I disagree. The in video ads are NOT an intrusion, it's an option for partners. In case you haven't noticed (--not trying to be snappy, but it took me a while to notice) there are no ads in any non-partner videos anymore, and partners haver full control of their ads. So, the ads are put there by the video makers. Also, the comment rating system is great, it allows for people to express descent without sprawling flame wars.

I'm with you on this one. I hate intrusive ads. Ads in the middle of shows every 10 minutes, popups, people who hang out at your uni bar and harass you every time you try and enter, trying to sell you some phone contract or something. I stopped watching TV because I got bored with all the ads, I got firefox to block popups, I routinely ignore strangers who approach me in the street, and I'll have absolutely no problem ignoring Youtube partners' videos.

I'm eager to see how the new Ads change the community. I think viewers will be more aware of who is commercializing their channel, while the partners are able to get enough money in order to quit their day jobs. For those who will make it a living, it may lead to a commercialization of the very content they provide.

The viewers will notice/suspect that, and those who aren't in favor of it will look out for non-commercial channels which in comparison will appear as more 'independent' or 'authentic' by default. But basically it's gonna be the usual transition to a commercialised industry like TV/Movies/Music. Also, with the new Ads, we gonna see lots of new people who are just 'in it for the money'.
And the comment system sucks, not coz of the ratings, more coz of the stupid display of 'all comments'.

I don't really like the idea of having the banner intruding videos, especially since it would kinda spoil all the hard work that the person puts into their video. But I think it's much better than having to sit through an entire 15 second advertisement beforehand just to see the video.

I agree. A lot of work goes into some peoples videos and they deserve the same respect as other forms of art. Sticking an ad over a video is just vandalism. I ignore all banner ads and get annoyed with pre-rolls and big annoying flashy ads but I can accept that some form of ads may be necessary. I think over the play/pause are is a good compromise- it's in your sightline plus people look at it a lot regardless if the watch the video.

The fact is that YouTube and its members have a common interest. We all want to help YouTube/Google design a form of advertising that will not be so incredibly irritating and offensive that it sends both creators AND viewers fleeing to a competitor who just uses big banner ads.

Thanks for chiming in Hugh, I see where you're coming from, but I guess the compromise has to be made between visibility and likely-hood of ad clicks, and being intrusive. Clearly the banners outside of the vids weren't working well enough for youtube... I'd still prefer this over pre-rolls or some kind of subscription, which are the other options.

i think this could be just as effective right above the vids. Like directly above them where the current video title is. Anyway, i'm not a partner so I guess I dont have to worry about it, i just hate the idea of somebody missing something in my vid because of a goofy ad popping up.

I agree wholeheartedly. banner ads on TV are super distracting....on MTV (at least in the states) they have a banner that goes accross the MIDDLE of the screen that says "you are watching Jackass" or whatever. I've heard about the in video adverts and have pre decided that I won't watch any videos where this occurs as it ruins the damn video.
Also, as I watch your video now at least 15% of the very right of my screen is taken up with 'Director Video' links that i'll never use.....put the damn adverts there YouTube.
