Brilliant piece of editing: the clips work well with the style of the song. (Go on, make a new version to the unabridged song....... :-) Really nice work.
@Thebluebridgetroll I recently watched the movie A Clockwork Orange, some clips are taken from that movie whiles not all. Not an official clip for sure.
I adore Madness (thanks to my dad!) and the first song I heard from this album was "Sugar and Spice" but when I was listening to Madness on shuffle, this song came on and is now one of my favourite Madness songs!!
I love this song ... so beautifully done just like the rest of the album. And this video suits it very well...only could i ask someone to list the movies used because i can spot about 3 or 4 of them but there's some great footage there that i don't recognize..
my mum loves these, and she always plays this album when we're in the car, only now have i taken notice of how great it is, and im grateful that she showed this band to me. GREAT!
It's a fantastic song with a great mix of different genres in it and I love how they add movie clips to the video. All I can reconise is "A clockwork orange" tho'. What are the other movies in this video?
looks like "Brazil" and "1984", "Bram Stoker's Dracula", "The Elephant Man", Prodigy's infamous video "Smack my bitch up", and one shot might be from "Layer Cake"
I'm really enjoying this song. My boyriend downloaded the album and I listened to it without paying much attention, but the lyrics and the music really caught my attention. It's a great band!
So far I enjoy the song "forever young", this norton Folgate, and the clerkenwell polka. They are such fun songs. 5 stars for this group!
Genius song. Really thoughtful piece of editing - I don't mind the cuts to the song at all in the context of the mood you are building up here - makes it more concise and potent.

Wow!! Fantastic track with fragments of Brazil, Dark City, A Clockwork Orange, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Sleepy Hollow, and a lot more films I'm pretty sure I've seen but can't remember the titles.
Madness have made a comeback to get rid of all this rave tachno pish and show them how they did it in '81.
Cmon boys, you can beat any light flashing, beat bopping, squeaky voicing pish that comes on the radio now a days with your fast, catchy, awesome, brilliant , skaness, well u get my point
Madness = Yes
Todays Music = No
Dont try comparing them its like comparing cilit band and any ordinary detergent. XD
@777louis777 This album came in 2009, in case you hadn't noticed. It is "today's music", and the fact that you can't be arsed to look for anything modern and good, while clutching onto records that have aged well but hardly sold when they were new, doesn't make your revisionist bullshit any more true.
Loved them as a teenager, long after they had broken up. Liked a few tunes of "The Madness" and "The Nutty Boys" in the intervening years. Hated nearly all of Suggs' solo stuff.. and now this.. finally, after years of prayer that they would get back together and produce an album, they have. And it's dark to boot.
This tune in particular is a dark pastiche of England's historical underbelly and I salute them for having the balls to paint the picture. Hopefully this will encourage them to do more
I heard this first and loved it, then I heard the 'full' version and hated that, now coming back to the short version, now THAT'S not right! So confusing and indecisive am I :S
fortunately this has almost nothing (except the usage of eastern scales in strings part near the end) to do with 'new delhi', which is imo the worst track madness ever recorded.
MarketGarden20 Soo Fucking Right Bu Pet Shop Boys Played I Was Happy Bou Tht Bu Still Angrey Nutty Boyz Wernt Up For One Well Supose If They Were Up For An Award it Would Be The Award For The Greatist Band Ever Alive
A Q run down on new tracks- 1. We are London. Love it..... 2012 anthem.... 2. Forever Young. Top tune. Defo single..... 3. Dust Devil. Quirky pop, catchy chorus...... 4. TLONF. Madness' Boh rhap.... 5. Sugar & Spice. A little too nice i'm afraid.... 6. Clerkenwell polka. Ah a fav of mine.......... 7. Bingo. A modern day 'Prospects' 8. Rainbows. Wonderful. could have been? 9. That close. A great Barso melody with S&C. 10 MKII. Pre. Michael Caine 11 Idiot child. Ace. 12 On the town. Single
The new album will be 14 tracks....The 12 we have now that are available through download + NW5.... Another track will be announced later..... And the album will be available from March the 9th fingers crossed.....
Let's Go is on the boxset that will be arriving next week.
Apparently two more tracks will be on the general release in May plus the 12 that came in the download. I think it's NW5 and something else, not entirely sure.
I personally feel like this version and the album version are almost two different beasts. The bits they've edited out here make this version a whole lot more brooding and ominous...
Both are fantastic, and I love the way they're both independent.
I really like the album. I also like the fact they are not writing songs squarely aimed for radio. None of the songs are potential smash 'pop hits' but, they are very listenable, indeed. :)
New album is absolutely brilliant, well the 12 songs we all got in an email. There's gonna be 11 more when the box set arrives! Best Madness material ever.
The most original stuff they have done in a long time.Clerkenwell Polka is my favourite. The whole album feels like its a soundtrack to a movie or a play or something like that.
My oldest boy and I were invited backstage at the SECC in 06. Met everyone apart from Barso (who is very shy and kind of hid away in a corner. He obviously wasn't comfortable so we steered clear. Shame as I'd have loved to talk to him. Just didn't seem polite to intrude).
Band split with 5 upstairs and the Nutty Boys downstairs, so naturally we spent our time with Thommo and Chris. My son adores them and really I can't complain as they were so down to earth.
It was a countdown to the announcement of the album release date. Yesterday you could order the album from the site, but the page seems to have gone now.
I think the problem is that every record company who wants to sign Madness these days wants them to write another bloody baggy trousers or Our House. Madness wanna do new stuff which most of their fans can appreciate already so any new album is bound to be a winner straight away. Yet you always get a few fans at Madness gigs complaining about the new stuff. If you dont like it you can always lock yerselves indoors for 2 hrs and put on Divine Madness.
Must admit I thought Chris and Thommo were a real revelation. Very, very clever guys, witty and admirably humble at the same time. Thoroughly enjoyed my time with them. Hope they do more stuff as 'The Nutty Boys'. Sorry, did I say The Nutty Boys? I meant 'Crunch' of course. lol
Certainly hope you're right there. I got the distinct impression during my conversation with Thommo and Chris that not all was rosy in the Madness garden. The band have always been quite cliquey but there are definitely members who don't talk to eachother and very different ideas as to where they should go next.
As for the album, I hope there is a lighter side to it, as the musicianship may be fantastic on this track but The Rise and Fall nearly did for them in 1984.
Yes, like all bands there are going to be disagreements of course. However they seem to plough on through it. With this new album, they have been having a great time recording it without any major labels breathing down their necks. Thommo even said it has been a much more enjoyable experience than recording "Wonderful" back in 1999.
As for The Rise & Fall, most Madness fans are in agreement, that musically, it is their best album. I hope TLONF tops it though...
Rumour originally had it that Madness were going to release 2 albums during 2007. One was to be called 'Lucky 7', featuring the single 'Sorry', and was to be an up tempo ska offering, a kind of Dangermen Sessions 2. The second was to be an epic soundtrack, which we now know to be called 'Norton Folgate'. Sadly neither surfaced and it now looks like 'Lucky 7' is not going to happen. Norton Folgate will happen, when is another matter. 2009, 2010? Who knows? Not even the band do!
What you said at the start there mate, was just that, RUMOURS. "Lucky 7" was in actuality a working title for "The Liberty of Norton Folgate." It was never a seperate thing, and the band have no plans to do The Dangermen Sessions Vol. 2 thankfully. TLONF was never to be a soundtrack, because in reality they have been working on the same one album for the last three years. It will be released next year and from what we've heard has the potential to be outstanding. Let's wait and see...
They are taking the piss a bit, aren't they? I spoke to Thommo in Dec 2006 and the album was due for release in March 2007. Since then it's been remixed repeatedly, promised for release every few months and still nothing. They promote it on radio, no follow up. A few gigs in London (no-one else worthy of hearing it?). I've reached the stage where it isn't something to look forward to anymore. Bit of a PR fuck up all round, eh? Then again, I never liked the Rise and Fall that much either.
Well i think maybe finally they have been told that they are gonna be given the BRIT AWARD next year and have been told to delay the Album until after.
Brilliant piece of editing: the clips work well with the style of the song. (Go on, make a new version to the unabridged song....... :-) Really nice work.

Petty time consuming bollocks. Inspired! lol

I think there are always disagreements in the band (what Chrissy Boy called the "petty time consuming bollocks").
dominickearney 3 years ago

MADALANMAC 3 years ago
What you said at the start there mate, was just that, RUMOURS. "Lucky 7" was in actuality a working title for "The Liberty of Norton Folgate." It was never a seperate thing, and the band have no plans to do The Dangermen Sessions Vol. 2 thankfully. TLONF was never to be a soundtrack, because in reality they have been working on the same one album for the last three years. It will be released next year and from what we've heard has the potential to be outstanding. Let's wait and see...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This is better, I like it when they try - I find Suggs too lazy as a vocalist but this isn't bad at all.
