Hector Bravo!! Holy cow. Truly one of the best versions of this on YouTube. Ignore the naysayers (they find distaste for the piece, but your playing is spot on). They know nothing about this music. You're the bomb!!:)
Perhaps he could have had a more beautiful sound (the recording equipment does not help), but overall I think this is a great rendition of the movement! Just the fact that he played it this fast speaks volumes and I think it sounds great.
PS. I know Hindemith 'instructs' us to play it "ugly", but I believe that if one could play it this fast and beautifully at the same time it would be even better.
Actually, this is pretty darn good. It's a hard piece to make sond "nice." Impossible, actually. Musically, it's supposed to sound "ugly." Anyway, he intonation is great. He needs a better recording.
Thanks to all... for comment my video and for nice commentary . I saw some people actually knows very good this piece. I wish it would be better. I think the sound of the camera did not help, but I really appreciate your comment and I will work on this.
@violasouth i'm trying to learn this piece now. it's truly unique. a lot of people are hating because they don't know what's going on, but i know how amazing you did! get a better camera haha.
The Hindemith directories say it has to be played as fast as possible with low importance for the quality of sound. But we all know Hindemith to be particularly strict about rythm. Even if it is played fast as hell, we should feel the rythm out of it. That would avoid us to perceit confusion and noise about a really nice piece.
BlacktoryProject is right. This piece is supposed to sound ridiculously fast and harsh; it says so in the score. Mr. Vasquez is playing it exactly as Hindemith directs on the score.
I don't have a problem with the speed or the tone. Sometimes notes you decide to emphasize are way too long in comparison. If I didn't know it was running quarter notes I'd be confused by the lack of rhythm here.
No, I'm afraid your comment is very bad. You obviously don't know the score, or you would realise that Hector Vasquez is following it exactly. It's supposed to be played waaaaay too fast and Hindemith explicitly wrote 'Beauty of tone is incidental'. So this is actually a very very good performance of Op. 25 IV.
No it was not. I assume you don't appreciate this kind of music, which I can understand. Atonal music isn't for everyone. But I have the score right here, and it literally says:
'tempo = 600-640. Rasendes Zeitmass. Wild. Tonschönheit ist Nebensache'
"tempo = 600-640. Raging speed. Wild. Beauty of tone is of secondary importance (!)'.
I just love how people with absolutely no knowledge of this type of music come in here and claim this was played very badly. Do your homework.
Well, I will say again something about this. I listened a second time and this is what happens 1st when you memorize a piece that you do not understand. And Hindemith is not always easy to understand. It is way too fast, for one.
hindemith writes: Rasendes zeitmaß. wild tonschönheit ist nebensache. (very fast. wild. the beauty of the sound is a minor point) the beauty isnt important!!! his tempo for 1/4= 600-640!!!!
I think that this was really good! I agree you could hold the last not longer but there are many ways to approach this piece. I think you did a disservice to Hindemith by playing all the RIGHT notes haha. Only kidding, but he even states before you start playing, intonation really doesn't matter. Great job!
you are very good and I like the energy, but there is such a thing as too fast that sacrifices the musicality, and I think there is musicality in this movement too!

This is awesome. I don't understand why people think it's not a very good performance. Must be the camera/sound quality.

No, he actually got the essence of this piece by playing it this fast. Speed > tonality in this piece.

Yeah, good tempo, BUT the last note-octava could by longer:-)
