  • You snager you dont know how to catch a fish

  • what bait/lure did u use

  • This is an excellent video, it is the only way to catch reds. I am from Montana, but I spend my summers commercial fishing in Alaska. Isn't it a pain in the ass to listen to what these greenies have to say about our ways of life. Its the same in Montana. I'm not going to lie but that lady just sounds like an idiot.

P.S. Kill every damn wolf you can find in Montana.

O ya and as soon as salmon lay their eggs they die, so don't be too worried.

  • "biting like crazy" bahahaahahha

  • Maybe he'd have a bit more luck if he'd try catching them by the mouth. What a lamer!

  • fuck all of you. fuck a salmon they all die sooner or later you fucking idiots.

  • learn how 2 fucking fish u mug?

  • wat i do i let the bait run along the river because once the salmon starts chasing that bait and u pull it out to bring it to the other side of the river, the salmon just lets the bait go. if u keep it in the water and let the river do the work for u, ull be catchin salmon like nothin.

  • Flossing. Play back the part where he brought it in, it was dancing on it's HEAD with the tail up in the air.

  • I think actually 'fishing' for these would be much easier than snagging them. Or you just suck at snagging!

  • oh yeah you are sure fishing i mean snagging you people just dont know how to fish get a life besides posting illegal videos

  • Hardly Sporting is it, dragging fish out of the river... how strong must the line have been, what a prick.

  • just luck

  • realize something. YOU ARE FLOSSING THEM.

  • You suck ass at fishing pal

  • The Ticket is in the mail Genious !

  • verry good fishing method i do it all the time!! in michigan

  • Snag much faggot

  • snagging/flossing fish in a 6 inch deep run

  • what is this "snagging"

  • 0.22

  • click on .22

  • i dont think the salmon were biting like crazy i think you were gigging

  • yes they were he had 4 bites in 2 minutes and caught one in 3 so shut the fuck up if u dont no what ur talking about u fuckng homo

  • *Jigging*

  • however one correction its not flossing it sure as hell aint snagging it is called "the sockeye flip" i do belive that all outdoorsman have a deeper connection to the wilderness then any green peace peta member i understand exactly where you are coming from, most of these people giving you a hard time have never been in a combat fishing senario and really have no idea what they are talking about what part of the river is this at anyways?

  • well MaxGruszecki i completly agree with you i live in washington state and i go to the kenai every summer i also fish here at home it is compleatly differnt fishing styles when they say combat fishing here in seattle i laugh they have no clue now i know that when your fishing for the reds or even silvers thats how EVERYONE does it unless you have access to a boat

  • 2:42 is when he catches the fish

  • too many fish are getting injured for every fish pulled on the shore and kept. why dont they just net a whole bunch and hand them out. that would keep a lot of people of the river and less fish with cuts and tears. did you know when there belly is torn and even a drop of water enters there body cavity it !!!Destroys all the eggs!!!!

  • if you want to do that, you can.

the reason people fish is because of the excitement of pulling it in and for dinner later

  • All you people who claim that this is snagging are wrong. It is lining. Red salmon swim upriver with their mouth open, and the fisherman's line catches on the mouth, dragging the fly or hook into the mouth also. Then, tension is felt and the angler sets the hook. Is it snaggin? Maybe, but it is legal in Alaska. What is illegal is if you hook the fish anywhere other than the mouth. Get your facts straight before you comment...

  • i use a cork and the heavy medal ball and cotton with shrimp flavor jelly

  • I thing I was fishing beside you on the vedder river

  • i throw beads for kings in the nimbus basin does that make me a snagger....NO...

  • Correction kingsalmon54, you are not snagging the fish, you are lining them. It's basicially the same thing as snagging, except you snag them in the mouth...

  • No it does not make you a snagger, but unless you are using a huge red or bright green bead, the salmon will ignore it. You are not snagging, but lining the fish in the mouth.

  • u r a snaggin S.O.B.

  • There's no other practical way of catching red salmon. They do not bite! Other species allow for more sport to be used, but sockeye salmon don't. This method and dipnetting are simply how they are caught. If you know something else that I don't, I'm all ears. If there's a different method to catch sockeye that you know of down in the lower 48, what is it?

  • thats a lot of damaged salmon out there which ever way you look at it. Just because you rednecks claim this is how its always been done doesn't make it OK. People like you give the anti-angling lobby good ammunition.

  • haha ok miss environment. You all hypocrats always blame those who hunt or fish, but ironically you eat the meat that come from animals. I don't see the differece between a cow or a deer, how are you the right to judge which animal is right to kill which isnt? I love nature and all that it provides but I am not going to say that because I do that I am not going to use some of its resources. You live in the house right? that means that you are anti tree person right?

  • Maxxxy - youve gone way over the top here. I do fish for salmon - -and shoot but I eat everything I kill.

There is however a certain degree of dignity and respect we should show the animals we intend to eat. We should not maim or damage the animals (land or water) we cannot catch.

  • I cant agree more with you on showing repect. I fish cause that's my hobby and go to Kenai every year. And I do respect nature. What you don't understand is that Kenai river when it opens up is so overcrowded that in order not to tangle fishing lines with other anglers, we as anglers pull those fish out as quicly as we can. Plus that salmon that i caught i did infact eat. This video is a bit misleading b/c of the angle the camera is set. But there is a person on the left and right side of me.

  • @kellyf356

my brain is damaged after reading your stupid comment. the only reason the human race survived is because of eating what god gave us. domain over the earth means we use the animals as we see fit. I LOVE TO KILL AND EAT MY OWN FOOD. makes me feel like less of a sissy and more like a man. your probably too pathetic to understand how goods go from nature to your dinner table. "anti-angling lobby" that is the most crap ive heard in one sentence in all the public restrooms ive ever used.

  • if you want to see real fishing videos, the way fish should be caught, check out fishingwithrod's channel, and my subscriptions. no snagging here boys

  • if you wanna fish flies, get a fly rod.

  • He's not snagging the fish. He throws the coho fly up river and let's it drift until it runs into the red salmon's mouth, and when he feels the fish at the end of the line he sets the hook. That's how everyone fishes for reds in Alaska. They don't bite, so in a way you snag them in the mouth while they're going upstream. It's a totally different way of fishing than what is used for other salmon species.

  • thank you for posting this comment. I have so many people mad and angry at this video but they just don't understand how to fish for reds in Alaska. 95% of the reds that I catch are in the mouth, sure I snagged a few but there is nothing you can do about it. It wasnt intentional. They are also angry about how i pull fish on the banks but they dont understand what "combat fishing" is all about. When fishing with so many people around you you are forced like everyone else to get the fish out fast

  • It's flossing and although it isn't "snagging" the fish doesn't bite so it is involuntarily taking the hook just because, "everyone in Alaska does it doesn't make it right!!!!!

  • didnt see the fish =/

  • Looks like one hell of a fight. Most people would call that flossing for salmon, ever heard of a drag? Is that really enjoyable, or would a grenade be more efficient?

  • certainly a beautiful fish but poor film

  • i go fishing there!!!

  • Check out my Canadian fishing vids, the way fish should be caught.

  • lol what were they biting???

  • u nust have no skills if u have to snag,my 8 year old son fly fishes for salmon better thant u snag too, please change ur title to snaging salmon its what ur doing

  • duuuuuuddeee harsh floss "they bite almost every cast" HAHAHAHAHAHA. Geez beeks these days

  • You may think this is the proper way to fish the Kenai. I could say the same thing about everyone here on the Fraser River who bottom bounch and snag fish. They all call it the proper technique, but it's not. Same thing on the kenai, you see everyone else flossing/snagging fish and you all think it's the only way. They BITE!

  • I know they bite cause out of approximately 30 fish that I caught in two days on Kenai only four were fouled hooked. I am not going to argue with you because there really is no point. I know how i caught them where you can only speculate. I am proud to be an angler and I respect wildlife and nature, and like most of us agree snagging in unethical. I snagged fish and still will but not intentionally.

  • I appreciate your good manner towards wildlife and fish, but I;m just saying, just because a fish is hooked in the mouth, does not mean it bit the hook. This known as flossing. Dragging a wait along the bottom, leader trailing behind, and sweeping through the water, hitting a fish, and the angler reacting to the bump.

  • why do you think you lost so many fish in that short period of time? its called foul hooked fish. ie. tail, belly, etc.

your just jerking and ripping, and you get the fish everytime you do that. ur just snagging em bud. And I love how you guys think these fish are so much different then anywhere. Oh, like theres a proper technique to snagging there? Snagging is snagging, and bottom bouncing is bottom bouncing.

    Snagger!

  • Yeah...these people should keep quiet if they've never fished on Kenai or in Alaska. But what bugs me about some of the "fishermen" is when they do that jerk/rip at the end of every drift. I've seen more fish snagged that way then anything else, and I'm talking bellies, tails, and fins whatever...they hardly catch them in the mouth. When people drift, they need to learn how to drift right.

  • Your a beek. Don't use the excuse, oh catching sockeye in alaska is different than any other river in north america. You flossed the fish. You give it a jerk/rip at the end of every drift. The reason you are losing the fish is becuase you are foul hooking them. Fish properly. It's simple. It's called ethics.

  • Ok I dont want to argue about this again because i already explained myself numerous times and like you can see many of the other anglers have the same view as mine about fishing on Kenai. I am not going to lie and say that I've never snagged a fish on Kenai becasue I did in fact many times, but that's not because i want to snag them, it's just that there are so many of them that you can't do anything about it.

  • The place that i am fishing in this video was closed due to huge numbers of salmon being there but the very next day the area was open to fishing and like you can see, there were many fish in that part of the river. I dont see how you can say that I am unethical in this video. I am using an effective and really the only method that can be used when "combat fishing."

  • There way hundreds of people next to me it's just the way i set my camera that made it look like i was the only one out there. I agree there are more finesse ways of catching salmon but that only when you have space to yourself. In combat fishing it's about catching the fish and getting it out of the water quickly to avoid tangled lines with other anglers.

  • you meat fisherman!!! SNAGGER!!!

  • sorry that i wrote three separate comments but only 500 characters are allowed per one comment

  • "unethical catching" should be the title. but regardless, flossing sockeye is an effective way to put dinner on the table.

  • salmon is a healthy food

  • thats cool

  • I am sorry for all these narrow minded racist comments. However, whatever the alaskan fishing tactics may be, your behavior shows very little respect for fish in general. I know you lucky guys up there have millions of salmon and everything is fresh and clean. I would not take it for granted though. Times may change sooner than expected. I treat every fish I catch like it was both my first and my last one. Tight lines! And keep posting dem vids. I enjoy watching beautiful nature.

  • foxboogie76, you are very correct. In the Pacific Northwest, salmon are so plentiful that people often prefer to line them like this gentleman instead of enticing a fish to bite the hook. It's a disgrace in the sportfishing community as people take the surplus amount of fish for granted. Check out my salmon fishing videos.

  • Nice catch but the hook set needs a little work, no? Is it normal to have that many missed strikes? I have never fished for Salmon before maybe I'm just playing armchair fisherman here.

  • fishing on the kenai its totally differnet fishing then anywhere. Most fish get off due to foul hooking, in fins, etc

  • yeah obviously he is lining fish, he is not snagging. that is very typical for kenai river sockeye. maybe a little on the unethical side but perfectly legal there and a great way to put fish on the table!

  • The guy is lining fish. He can spin (no pun intended) all he wants. I see all the time fishing in New York and Michigan.

  • Max, why do you even respond to that Jeremy doofus. Great fishing, huh? I fished Kenai myself this year. There is no better river in the world. Go get them reds! y

  • hey, yeah i know i should not but i cant stand those ignorant people that post comments without having any knowledge about fishing and more specifically not knowing about fishing tactics used in Alaska.

  • I grew up on the kenai river. awsome fishing. Some times they run so thick they are constantly bumping into your legs. What part of the river is that at?

  • Nice rod, bet ya afterwards he used that to play pool with.

  • haha yeah i know. i forgot my lighter rod so i used my king salmon rod

  • Nice footage... there is skill involved here... I a similar style but with float/wool. There are times when a line of fisherman are casting and only one of them is catching anything. Must be nice having all that space to yourself...

  • well actually it was packed with people you just can't see it because of the way i set the camera haha. Plus this was at around 5:30 in the morning so the marority of the fisherman weren't there yet.

  • i understant what flossing is, but you call it snagging like i snag a fish on a belly not mouth.

  • it's kenai river, alaska. It's not a snag fest it's just that there are so many fish that it seems like that.

  • hahaha biting like crazy. the method of fishing you are using is called bottom bouncing/flossing. u feel it and set the hook. some how you get a bite at the end of every drift. hmmm i wonder how. lol. fish properly. DONT SNAG

  • obviously you never fished in alaska so you wouldnt know would you. Salmon during mid June through july have big runs and Kenai River has one of the biggest runs in Alaska. Where Russian River flows into Kenai is the most famous place for them to stay. Some days it's illegal to fish there, but when that specific area opens for fishing there are literally hundreds of fisherman fishing for salmon. And yes they bite almost everytime you cast.

  • obviously you dont know what flossing is. There are so many fish that your hook glides through the water and then catches the fishes mouth, the you set the hook. it's the same here in BC and there in Alaska. lol. Oh, and might wanna try using a float. just curious, what were u using?

  • i used ArcticFox Tube Flies

  • You are absolutely wrong. I fish the same river as Max. It's not snagging. The fish strikes the fly out of impulse, anger. It has nothing to do with snagging. It happens and fish has to be realeased. Snagging in the mouth is a stupid statement. If you do it right, you catch this otherwise uncatchable fish. People snag them in stagnant water. I witnessed state troopers confiscate hundreds of fish caught in that manner. You do not know what you are talking about.

  • Hi LoyzaR, I just read your comment on lining red salmon that you posted onMaxGruszecki's vid about Red salmon fishing. I was under the impression that a Sockeye or Red salmon rarley bite, and that the commonly used method of flipping a fly and a sinker was to line them in the mouth. In your comment, you said that " The fish strike the fly out of impule and anger". If that is true, why do so many fisherman catch Sockeye salmon with the hook on the outside of the lip? Just wondering... Thanks

  • Sockeye don't bite around the Fraser river area in BC... but they do bite the further you travel North towards Alaska...

  • what river is that. Seems like a snag fest

  • You should call this one " A day of Raping mother earth of her fruits" Learn to fish homeboy

  • hey "blufpufpass" liberal asshole, i dont know what you deal is but you need to quit being such a faggot. I dont know how to fish huh, well hell I guess getting third place in the state is not knowing how to fish.

  • you mean "third place" in your fucked up "state" of mind. stop snagging those fish in the face & fish like a real man. try to fish like you have some balls between you legs. fuckin' Russians like you need to go back home. also if you are such a pro, buy a fishing pole & stop using that pool stick.

  • oh ok, first of all im polish not russian you uneducated fuck up. Yeah third place bitch, it's not snagging it's bottom bouncing and you are claiming to be a fisherman haha. Read and learn asshole before posting comments. I bet you graduated from middle school maybe highschool.

  • snagging fish, is that how the communists fish? if you're a pollack, then that means you never even went to school. was that third place contest held between the rabbits & the chickens? and you only got third place, fucking pollack, learn to fish.

  • That is a statement of ignorant hillbilly. That's proper way of fishing for reds. Read my other comment.

  • That's not the proper way to fish for reds. Reds do not bite when they are in the river. The proper way to fish for reds is trolling in a boat. Just because you can hook them doesn't mean it's fishing. But I guess backwoods hicks just don't care.

  • Actually if you drift with one of those bucktail flies they will strike it. I fly fish and do this so I guess you should broaden your horizons. I agree with nativebrother though, I don't condone the practice of jerking the line at the end of the drift in order to snag a fish.
