Just a note: This song it was never included on the tracklist of Behaviour. It was an "offside" release, a double A side indeed, to support How can you expect to be taken seriously.
@IrvoDominguez .. It was released as single in Britain and the can't take my eyes of you part was a swipe at U2 (Chris Lowe once described Bono as the 8th deadly sin) and the can't take my eyes off you part was added as a wind up to U2's "gothic marketing" ploy concerning POP music . This version actually made it higher in the charts than U2's version (which i think is better) Iam a fan of U2 and PSB but this single, not included on any studio album from PSB was to simply annoy U2
@IrvoDominguez .. How can you expect to be seriously was released as a single, the B side is We all feel better in the dark.. However as you correctly said, this song was never on Behaviour album.. How can you expect to be taken seriously was though. Track 4 if memory serves.
@risteard01 was at Pet Shop Boys- Performance show in 1991 (Glasgow) and they sang the whole version, but when the DVD was released the cant take my eyes of you part is blanked out, he still sings it but the volume cuts out.It must have had something to do with copyright.U2 and the songwriters Gaudio/Crewe who wrote "Cant take my eyes you" for Andy Williams are also on the credits. But the copyright for this song is OWNED by Pet Shop Boys partnership under license to EMI. weird one !
It's amazing how the Pet Show Boys deconstruct pretty much EVERYTHING on the original U2 version; every little fragment of meaning and emotion is demolished in this version. It's one of the most radical and disrespectful covers in history, and so very subtle... and I love it to bits, in spite of liking U2 a lot.
This is one of those rare 80s groups whose music just got better and better as the decade progressed. IMO they reached their true stride in the early 90s, then pretty-much stayed there. Love them.
I watched Take That performance and it was way worse than the short stunt performed by Pet Shop Boys...They are there only to satisfy middle-age disillusioned women who think that their world will be saved by the prince Robbie or Gary...I am sure if Take That sat down and drooled by mmmming hyms, their concerts would sell out nevertheless. Their fans are not seeking music, their fans are seeking the princes of their youth, which is way behind them...
If I were to be sent on a long voyage into outer space, and were provided with only ONE choice of music (ALL albums of course) from one musical group, I would have chosen PET SHOP BOYS. Perfect for a nice, cool voyage through the stars!!
Once again: Cover / Version - who cares about those unimportant details... This PSB Track is a class of it's own - it's just cool and self-ironic. U2 instead are always trying to be so goddamn serious, but in fact U2 are only boring; just like all these other "great" hypocrites in "modern" music history - like Bob Geldof and Paul Mc Cartney... where at last only their business is booming. So... let's make lots of money!!! (Most people are so easy to deceive by media. That's a sad thing.)
Love this version! It's lightyears better than the U2 version! U2 were and are always a bit uncool, espesially Bono with all this benefit-stuff is so upsetting.
Hey, you show a good taste for music - great! I, in general, prefer synthie-pop music - like Pet Shop Boys, OMD, Depeche Mode, Boytronic and also all the 80's italo-disco stuff - that's really cool music. This PSB-video is also very good and stylish (like most PSB studio-videos) - and the idea of mixing this originally boring U2 song with the disco-hit "Can't take my eyes off you" was a brilliant idea from PSB at that time then.

Fuckin Faggot ass wankers, first they kill the atmosphere at the take that progress tour as the shitty support act, and then I find they absolutely murder my favorite song of all time!?!? Disgrace to music.
@mellman6 what kind of atmosphere? hysterically screaking "girlies" in their late 30s with their ugly husbands? PSB is one of the most successful pop duos of all time with lots of awards and hits since the 1980s. take that is a boy band over their time and a junky called robby williams. psb has defined dance and pop music. disgrace to your music...
@TheRealThotti You know whats ironic about your response? I only went to see Take That with some mates cause I got free tickets.... TT were only marginally better.
How can you say its even better than u2?! Bono sings it so great, this song is impossible to sing any better. I definitely don't like the Pet Shop Boys' version.
Amusing that PSB chose a Vegas motif, since the U2 original was for Joshua Tree. A different take on the desert motif. Huge props to U2, but got to admit I like the PSB version better... mixing in Can't Take My Eyes Off of You is such random brilliance. Not a point to argue over though. They are so different.
Classic. That beat and the Vegas neo-retro video are fantastic. I could never decide which one was better, the U2 one or this, but this was somehow closer to me.
@BiancaDe1980 1. Staurday Night Fever).

So they took a U2 song about freedom and turned it into a gay anthem? Umm...ok. Still a great a tune under all this glam...even covered in man goo.
