The way I understand it is that managers actually used to try to kick the chalk onto the umps pants because it had lye in it. It would eat a hole through the material and wreck the pants...not sure if that's fact or fiction, but it sounds good.

He was the manager of the yanks only for 1-2 seasons but some time in 1970s he was ejected right away for comming out of the deck, and he kicked dirt to the umpire.

i remember in 2008 when d lee made an amazing play against ryan howard. when he got the ball @ 1st, he bobbled it, and got him just in time. it was so close that they had to replay it in slo mo. then the manager of the phills came out and had a huge argument. it was right before the 7th inning stretch. about 3 minutes later, howard and the manager got ejected from the game. it was so fun to watch! those were my very first ejections that ive watched in real life in the MLB.

Why is it that in baseball it is ok for the manager to argue and he doesn't get fined even when he gets tossed out (except in extreme cases), and in other sports its not ok? Like football, etc...a manager getting tossed is nothing in baseball but in all other sports its an "event"

There are reasons for arguing, especially if your team is down. Earl Weaver, the manager for the Orioles, used to tell his team, "I'm outta here, boys" before climbing out to argue with the ump. Kicking up a storm energizes the team and the fans. Lou was great, but the Yankees still suck!
