also on pal or ntsc TV you can get nearly 800*600 --> pal 768*576 and some pixels more ... vga 50 hz 806*592 ... if its to slow use a good OS and some software like NVDI ... look my falcon 030 plays movies and mp3 video ... vga 256 colors 50hz 806*592 (thats my low resolution) ... 1024*768 90 hz interlace i use as high resolution ... on standard 030
Too many people are judging the Falcon badly over this kind of video.
As you fully well know, the Falcon while no speed monster by any stretch was untouchable when it came out for quite some time... It just about predates the 386 and even today people are still using them as serious PC Alternatives just shows how good they can be.
I don't agree. This is a real video that shows a real situation. If it's bad, then it's bad. But it's real. I've also uploaded a much better video and I've stated why this is slow. If people want to judge badly they will do so no matter what you show them. If not they'll discuss it and then they will formulate an opinion.
You sayu its real, but no one, and I mean absolutely no one ever runs a resolution like that nor have the done so in almost 20 years!
The only time I ever run that was on my ST before I got myself a Mono Monitor, and I seriously doubt that anyone has even looked at such a resolution on the Falcon even for curiosity. You are the one and only person I know to do it. So, I doubt that calling it real is actually in itself real at all?
Not necessarily. I know ful lwell what you mean, but sometimes the Atari has a simplicity that the PC is overly powerful to use.
For example, in my LAN room, there are 8 High End PCs, in the middle of them is my Falcon, connected to and FDI and a FriendChip 8 Midi out ports and on to several synths, andexpenders and I use CuBase Audio to record my music. I dont need any extra functions other than the recording ability of the Atari.
Why do I still use the Atari when I have the PCs?
I stand by what I said about using it as a "serious alternative to the PC", to paraphrase you. It's ridiculous. But using it for that extremely limited purpose as you do, it's fine.
Now, this video is on a really poor screen resolution.
TeraDesk is a really low end Desktop that has been bundled with EasyMiNT.
Please dont judge the Machine based on a ridiculously thick video.
Most people who use their falcons seriously will agree but this video is an embarrasment and I really do wish it would be taken down or at the very least that the user would use a sensible resolution.
I was always an Amiga owner first and foremost and although i have always preferred the Amiga, i am not here to slander the Atari Falcon because i absolutely shit myself in the days it was up against the Amiga 1200 because it generally speaking had better specs except for the colour palette and the OS, other than that though, the Falcon was a serious contender "hardware wise" to topple the A1200.
I guess at the time i couldn't exactly run from the facts as much as i would have liked to have buried my head in the sand :) I actually enjoyed the rivalry between Atari & Commodore as in the days with the C64 against the ZX Spectrum :)
The kind of application shown in this video would be generaly used on an accelerated model, like the ones with a 100mhz 68060 processor (instead of the 16mhz 68030), and with at least 256 megs of memory (instead of the default 4 megs or maximal 14 megs of the original machines).
Oh, and yeah, 640x200 in 16 bits is very slow on the standard model, while using higher resolutions on the accelerated machines is perfectly doable :)
You are of course absolutely right about all these points. However even at 16Mhz they run pretty fast. I' ve uploaded another video on a better resolution mode.
Should at least use 640x480x16 on the falcon when using a browser..

First impressions last.

No no. If you showing something new to somebody who is unfamiliar that you must agree. Its stupid to showing such resoultion for such operations.

Anyone using a Falcon as an serious alternative to a modern PC is mentally ill and out of touch.

Just because something better comes along, doesn't mean the old thing gets worse.

I like the way you separated "Idiot" and made it stick out at the end, it really makes your "assault" seem special.
You profoundly dull turd.

CFalcon030 3 years ago
Yes, I use a CT63 and the Falcon flies.
Using 640x200 though??? Come on, thats not normal... Even Serious ST users dont use that, never mind a Falcon user.
FatRakoon 4 years ago
Yeah, I choose that resolution to avoid interlacing. But it wasn't that much of a problem as I thought it would be. I promise to make a better one.
CFalcon030 4 years ago
Obviously running on a default falcon.
