Unico is great.. Its too bad they only did the two movies and then it stopped. :( We never got resolution. It would be great if a few good writers in the business got together and wroter another entry or two. In this age of shitty remakes and sequels, I think picking up a series that stopped cold and continuing it would be awesome
i grew up on the 2 movies and freaken LOVE the original movie (island of magic frankly kinda sucks)
so when i read about the pilot episode i could not find it and was almost afraid to watch it if i did find it as i feared the concept or appearace would be too different and just sorta mess with my childhood memories since it would be the last new thing of unico i ever saw
BUT this actually was way better than i could have had hoped for and it was nice to see a wee bit more of a child hood fave
The instrumentals to the opening theme remind me SO MUCH of The Beatles' song, 'A Day In The Life". Well, the piano does, anyway. LOL! I <3 you, Unico!!!
ah, i see, thanks ^^. I guess it makes sense, not sure if this particular idea would have worked as a series. While it has a lovely theme and would have had plenty of material to work with, I think some one else said it in one of the other comments, but the ending of each episode would probably be just a little on the depressing side.
Amazing. THis is obviously VERY much inspired by Disney. ALthough I think it comes across as looking like a poor DOn Bluth imitation to me.
But hey, i'm sorry. i don't mean to make fun of it. It's still great. I'm just surprised by how Unico evolved.
But then again, Osamu Tezuka isn't called "The Walt Disney Of Japan" for nothing. Although honestly, I am glad that for the actual films of Unico, they didn't just use this same faux-Disney copied style. That's all.
Thanks for sharing this. I never got to see this or the other unico movie when I was younger but I did see "The Adventures of Unico" one so that's how I got to be a fan.
Those of you looking at Unico , and not familiar with it, are probably thinking it reminds you of Kimba the White Lion, because this was designed by the same genius.
I heard there was a third movie that was never dubbed. Any info on that?

@Zimloverfan
Since it never was dubbed in English, you can't. Not unless someone does a fandub.

That is a beautiful opening song, then again all Japanese anime songs and musics are always great.

reminds me of Dennis Wilson's solo work before he died.

@orlandobabe I disagree. Listen to Searching for Odin at the end of Odin: Photon Space Sailer Starlight. lol.

Does this mean there were more episodes?
Tempest0Lavalle 3 years ago 4
No. They made the pilot episode, but the series never got off the ground. Instead, several years later, the first movie was made.
