I find this adaptation fascinating. It moves a slower pace because all of Agatha Christie's plot lines take time to develop. With as many characters as there are in this story, it needs to be meticulously told. Shakespeare moves slowly as well. People who are bored by this series probably don't find enough car chases and explosions to keep them awake.
They used a real house in West Dorset as Miss Blacklock's house. They filmed all of the interior and exterior shots in the house. I read on the internet that it is a bed and breakfast now. The village used for the filming was Powerstock in Dorset.
Samantha Bond has also been on Poirot in "The Adventure Of the Cheap Flat" and a couple Midsomer Murder episodes. I really like her and I think she plays Julia very well here. I used to think thus production was a bit slow; older and wiser now I can appreciate it much more than the more modern interpretation. There is something savory about slowly building these characters...like simmering meat in a stew!
Why they changed Mitzi's name into Hannah? I can't remember her been called like that in the book. Sometimes they do thinks like that, though I really don't see any reason to randomly change characters' names. It's unrespectful. Or is there something in the name "Mitzi" I don't know about?
They probably thought the name Mitzi made no sense for a East European woman. Which I agree with.
They change more major things in these shows. One show has Marple instead of Poirot even! The writers use the books for inspiration, and add their own twist. Thats good. You don't want a reenactment of the novel, because the novel is already there, and readers picture the characters even better then the best casting. Making something new is not disrespectful.( unrespectful isn't a word, btw).
A thought, in the show(unlike the book) the maid's nationality is purposefully unrevealed. Maybe they thought the name Hannah is more in line with that? Mitzi in the book was from Germany, right? Maybe they thought the name was too Germanic, where "Hannah" was a name that could come from almost anyplace.
I do not know her nationality, but changing her name just seemed pretty pointless - especially because it's central for her character that she is a foreigner and a refugee, an outsider whom mrs Blacklock pities out of her good heart. I understand, accept and support changes that are ment to make the filmation better. And the fact I sometimes misspell words is because English is only my 3rd language. :)
@GreyEyesCrying They are not changing the book. To change the book, they would have to change what was written. The book always stays the same. They are retelling the story. You are welcome to not like it, but you can not disagree. They obviously have the right to tell the story how they want. If you like the way it is in the book, then re read the book. If you want a different interpretation, then see a show, or maybe read another writers take on the story, thats done too. But don't whine.
love it im playing mitzy

I always loved the following line in the book, and glad they kept it in the movie:
"They all said the same things:
'What lovely chrysanthemums' and 'you've got the central heating on'"
I do miss:
"What happened last night?
We all slept like logs, I guess"

Mitzi or Mici is actually short for Maria, Marija, so Mary in English.

I disagree.Books were written a certain way and should not be changed, that is, if the book is any good. I can't stand when they change good books.

People may think that the actress that plays Julia is familiar, she is played by Samantha Bond who played MoneyPenny from the James Bond series.
