Hi everyone :) i am at university studying graphic design and i have chosen to do a brief on the wizard of oz. I am going to be producing typographical posters to bring back this classic film and give it life once again so that people want to watch the film. It would be a great help to get some feedback on what people remember about this classic film or any other thoughts would be much appreciated :) thanks hayley
@Leatherbubba there's no "reading politics" from this - the original story has silver slippers, not ruby, to denote silver as money, the yellow brick road for gold as money, denoting the removal of silver as currency & the central banker control to eventually put in paper debt so that metals as money were derailed. The Tin Man is "industry" and the "straw man" is Farmers who both were attacked severely by this. The Cowardly Lion is the Presidential Candidate trying to stop it.
I think I now know where Trixie from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic got her name "The Great and Powerful Trixie". Damn, it's been so long since I've seen this movie that I didn't even remember.

Actually, this movie was made to mock the Federal Reserve System. The details are in the book "The Creature From Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve" by G. Edward Griffin. That book will blow your mind. The 'man behind the curtain' is the government printing press that adds dollars to the overall money supply, devaluing the ones in your wallet. Also good to read "Adventures in Legal Land" by Marc Stevens, whose videos on traffic courts and taxation are also on youtube.
Seriously, neither the book nor the movie were ever meant to be some allegory or satire. It was only intended to be a charming children's fantasy, nothing more. I could say that Titanic represents democracy and the iceberg represents communism, but it doesn't. Just because I could say that doesn't mean it is true.

The story really is an allegory to the gold standards of the guilded age. Dorthy is the American people embodied as a whole, sweet and innocent, and toto is symbolic of the guiding light to the people, maybe religion or ambition.

The whole story is a satire of the corruption in the businesses and corporations of America in the late 1800's. The Scarecrow represents the western farmers with no brains, the tin man represents the eastern industrial workers who worked in the factories with no heart, and the lions represent the congressmen with no courage to stand up against the corporations. The yellow brick road represents the gold standard, and the munchkins are the average citizen. I thought the wizard was Mckinley.

@fox9ninja I thought the Wizard of Oz was all about atheism. The Wizard is worshipped and adored by all, has the momument of the Emerald City built in his honour. In the end though, the curtain is pulled back and we see that this god is in fact a man-made fiction. The characters also learn that they do not need the wizard (God) to gain their virtues (courage, intelligence, empathy) as they are already within them (eg Humans are inately good, do not need religion)

Read Revelation 4: 2-6 and then watch this clip. I cannot help but wonder if they borrowed imagery from Revelation when creating this scene. Now, this scene does not have the 24 elders on their throne and the 4 living creatures. But it does have emerald as the primary color, peals of thunder and lamps of fire. Even the floor Dorothy stands on is like a sea of glass. You might "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" but no one can ignore the One sitting on the throne (Rev. 4:2).
I live in a small town where I'm surrounded by conspiracy nutcases. They all get confused when I tell them to watch this movie, this part in particular, because they only see what they want to see.
There's no use reasoning with these 2012, Y2K, "government's out to get us" psychos; let's just revel in the fact that logic wins, even when on the surface it appears to be losing.

The whole story is a satire of the corruption in the businesses and corporations of America in the late 1800's. The Scarecrow represents the western farmers with no brains, the tin man represents the eastern industrial workers who worked in the factories with no heart, and the lions represent the congressmen with no courage to stand up against the corporations. The yellow brick road represents the gold standard, and the munchkins are the average citizen. I thought the wizard was Mckinley.

@fox9ninja I thought the Wizard of Oz was all about atheism. The Wizard is worshipped and adored by all, has the momument of the Emerald City built in his honour. In the end though, the curtain is pulled back and we see that this god is in fact a man-made fiction. The characters also learn that they do not need the wizard (God) to gain their virtues (courage, intelligence, empathy) as they are already within them (eg Humans are inately good, do not need religion)

Read Revelation 4: 2-6 and then watch this clip. I cannot help but wonder if they borrowed imagery from Revelation when creating this scene. Now, this scene does not have the 24 elders on their throne and the 4 living creatures. But it does have emerald as the primary color, peals of thunder and lamps of fire. Even the floor Dorothy stands on is like a sea of glass. You might "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" but no one can ignore the One sitting on the throne (Rev. 4:2).

I live in a small town where I'm surrounded by conspiracy nutcases. They all get confused when I tell them to watch this movie, this part in particular, because they only see what they want to see.
