Andrew Jackson was the first leader of the newly created Democratic Pary that broke away from the Democratic-Republican Party created by Jefferson and Admas to oppose policies of the Federalists, especially Hamilton's economic policy creating the first national debt. If the Democrats continue the Third Way philosophy that defines them today, then Andy Jackson's legacy of using the jackass as his campaign symbol might well be fitting. BTW Andy-a war POW-invited the public to the Inauguration Ball
Josh, I think you should be more careful with "by" vs. "with" when talking about percentages in elections. For the first two special elections, you mentioned that Bush won "by" a percentage. That implies to me that Bush won "by" a 62% margin (81 to 19), whereas he actually won "with" 62% of the vote (62 to 38).
Ralph Nader thought it. W's reign wasn't really worth it, but it's great to see this swing back to the left (and reality). Now we just need to put Rove and Gonzalez and Cheney in jail to complete the restitution!! :)
this is exactly what the nation needs... we gotta get these republicans out of office if we are ever going to progress as a nation. they are tied up in too much corporate money and they serve the interests of corporations, not americans. this is why the economy is in the toilet, oil companies post 400B profit margins, jobs are sent overseas AND a lil known fact is labor import. not the mexicans but the high-pay jobs are filled with asians and eastern europeans. the republicans have got to GO!
These Blue Dog Dems are winning by sounding like Republicans. If they would've ran a genuine liberal Democrat like Obama, they would've have gotten squashed.
This video says nothing of the actual values of the Democrats being elected. The large part of them are actually very socially conservative. Take Travis Childers for example. Childers is pro-life, pro-Bush tax cuts, pro-capital punishment, and pro-2nd amendment gun rights. Does that sound like a Democrat to you?
You're right he is a conservative democrat but that is representative of the area.
He also wants to change NAFTA, is a stong supporter of public education and wants to bring our troops home from Iraq. I think it is a definite improvement.
Oberweis lost in Illinois?? I was unaware of that, and I'm from the neighboring district. That clown thought drawing straws was an effective method of choosing the Republican nominee for Governor in '06, now he's out!
Yeah it dosnt look good for the GOP in the House and Senate but on the brite side McCain is gonna win the election and republicans are going to be getting a lot more black votes in the future. Amazingly, my gym in Detroit is now playing FOX News instead of CNN:)
Of Course... The past eight years, the GOP showed their true colors and sold out their base for Big Oil and Other corporations. As their based watched their jobs get out sourced, their country be invaded, their taxes be wasted, their dollar inflated, their gas go threw the roof, wars friutless and useless and still NO TERM LIMITS, who want to vote GOP?
Of course the Dem sold out too. China, Nafta, Taxes, Pentions, Afirmative Action, Welfare etc etc etc
Between Republicans and Democrats there isn't a party that you would at least prefer to see elected? Abstaining from the process only screws you over, unless a vast majority abstain, which is unlikely.
Yes, I will do what the majority has done for years, Abstain.
The process is corrupt. The Parties have forsaken their bases, values, and even morals.
I do not drink poison, I do not cut myself with knives, and I would never hurt myself so much as to vote for the people the Media has choosen via the corporations.
These people do not have your interest at heart, they are all supporting one falure after another. ALL of them.
I have voted Libitarian before, problably again now that it matters
"Yes, I will do what the majority has done for years, Abstain."
I hope that you AT LEAST vote in the primaries.
There's electable small candidates in the primaries.
Also, I think abstaining isn't a solution.
Even though the republican and democratic nominee are really taking orders from the same people, and are selected by the media, etc etc. There's still a choice between the minor of two evils.
I voted in Louisiana for Ron Paul, and he won... But because he did not get 50%, the deligates were released to support anyone they wanted regardless of the vote... The Supported and indorsed the Supersized McCain and not who won the election... This is what I mean when I say the whole thing is full of coruption and we(the voter) are not part of their interest... We have started wars for more representation then we have now... Revolts are not all bad.
I guess there's at least one good thing about easy gun ownership.
However, revolts usually end up putting people in the same situation they used to be.
To quote the gattopardo: "All must change so that everything can stay the same" (this refers to the union of italian aristocracy-ruled kingdoms into a one-state democracy).
You may get short-term social benefits, but it seems like corruption and special interests will always win in the end.
They are not down for the count yet. They have a much stronger spin machine and a higher rate of success winning over shitkickers. The scary black Muslim man who hates America will be a tough image to remove from those bastards' playbook.
There was a new rule saying you have to wait two years to be a lobbist... So most republicans retired to beat the rule... Lobbing is another way these crooks get paid for the crap they do for sleazy corporations.
Its called delay payoffs. They need to be hung, then drown, then quartered, then fed to starving Africans.
Besides who wants to hang around when all of this colapse... And it is soon.. Buy Ammo you will need it.
The Future is grim. Protect yourself because there is no one protecting you, your rights, and your values... The GOP and DNP are filled with traders and thieves who want to do nothing more than keep you on their bankbooks.
The GOP deserve all of the hardship they're going to get this November. The party has lost all of its credibility following Bush & the Neocon's Machiavellian agenda. No longer can they claim to be about small government that stays out of people's lives.
Your right, if fact they did just the oposite... Government is everywhere. Watching everybody, and writing rules about everything... Of course do not look to the democrates to fix this... just make it worst. Vote 3rd party not to do, but to undo.

Thank God for George W. Bush, who would have thought he'd be responsible for the biggest shift to the left this country has ever gone through.

I think what Josh forgot to tell everyone is that Childers is a HUGE BARACK Obama Supporter....
You Tube it...he even had attack ads that flamed him for supporting Barack. His support for Barack is more than likely why he won.
