Top Gear did a test where they tested Toyota Prius vs M3 and M3 got better gas milage, since it's engine didnt have to work as hard as Toyotas small 4 cylinder. For example a Cadi Deville can get up to 26mpg, that is the same as Honda Accord which has a half the engine. I used to have a Mitsubishi car, it had 160hp and I wasted twice more gas than I do now with my 240hp BMW I6. I can see it in my pockets.
@ncsufan1 i think 3L straight 6 BMW engine used to produce around 230hp back then. you are talking about the current version. and i think this particular boxster (it's not an "S" if you noticed) probably has a 2,5L or 2,7L flat 6, which generates something between 200-225hp. so clarkson, at least for this time, isn't making it up :) . that s2000 engine generates about 120hp/L which is a figure ferrari lately passed with 458.
love N/A engines. turbo and superchargers just have way more to break. i dont want to have to wait for my engine to warm up so i dont kill my turbo;s bearings, nor do i want to have to change my oil more often.
This is how I view it: after buying an S2000, you've got £6,000 to modify either the suspension, brakes, tires, intake, exhaust, engine internals, forced Induction, etc. Without these modification the S2000 still out performs the other two.

I don't like Porsches, because I live in Stuttgart - they are so common round here, and every single one of them either has a businessman or a woman in her 50s in it. For once James May is totally correct. If your ego can get past the Boxster being 'entry level' it is a wonderful, precision instrument designed perfectly for carving up tight, twisty roads!
S2k absolutely eats the boxter. A cayman on the other hand will keep pace with the s2000. The added rigidity of the roof on the cayman makes all the difference. Boxter is too soft imo. (i own an s2k and have the pleasure of driving a cayman every once and awhile.)

@AlexanderBlueAvenue That isn't saying much, seeing as the S2000 has been discontinued. that said, one can purchase a used S2000 from 2005-2009 for a very reasonable price. The Z4 is in a different class altogether. It is an upscale sports car to the S2000's affordable racer.
@AlexanderBlueAvenue however, i saw a persons s2000 with twin turbo chargers and intercooler installed, new engine headers, new exhaust headers and a nice haltech ecu system. i think it had a new transmission too. This installed costs way less than the cruddy bmw and the s2000 ran 10.5 sec quatermile. bet a gay bmw couldnt do that....
In response to Richard's Boxster "it's cheaper" comment, while it's true that it's cheaper, I've heard some drivers claim the drivability is easier. So, thus, the Boxster performs better than the 911 at a cheaper price which is why the 911 should be PHASED out while the Boxster/Cayman should be PROPED up to replace it.
I normally prefer more expensive cars from more upscale companies, but I have to agree with Jeremy here. Honda has proved that a 4-cylinder engine can be more powerful than the 6-cylinder engines in comparable sports cars (much in the same way Porsche has done with its 450 hp flat 6 from the GT3 RS). Factor in the cost savings and infallible reliability, and Honda has an easy win. I only wish they still built the S2000 (or a modern replacement).
when a car only comes with a manual transmission you know it's something special. Unlike chick cars like the boxster and z4 where the majority of the drivers opt for the automatic version
5,000 pounds is about 7,500 is US dollars. Thats how much cheaper the s2000 is than the Porsche with those $7,500 you can modify it to be even faster.
I love the S2000 because its cheap its very reliable you don't get charged an arm and a leg when something breaks down like on a porsche or a BMW a lot of people would argue with me but im personally a honda fan but the way you look at it the S2000 comes out on top

S2k absolutely eats the boxter. A cayman on the other hand will keep pace with the s2000. The added rigidity of the roof on the cayman makes all the difference. Boxter is too soft imo. (i own an s2k and have the pleasure of driving a cayman every once and awhile.)

I don't get why Richard is mocking the Boxster because it is "a poor man's 911" Yes but you can also say that a 911 is a poor man's Carrera GT, and that a Carrera GT is a poor man's Pagani Zonda F roadster. Why is it a shame to have a Boxster? yes if you could you would probably have bought a 911, but it is still a very good car, with a superb chassis, and it is significantly lighter then a 911. And it has the engine in the right place, the middle.

I'm sorry... it's all about preferrance. I love all three cars. I personally own a Z4 and love it! You know why? Cause it's low to the ground, the interior looks very nice, the exterior is remarkable and the engine sounds like a ninja creaping up on you.
If you are gonna do a comparison between fast and nice cars, throw the G35 Infiniti in there. There's no competition with that car. You know why? Cause it has EVERYTHING. Luxury, speed, performance and look.

@AlexanderBlueAvenue That isn't saying much, seeing as the S2000 has been discontinued. that said, one can purchase a used S2000 from 2005-2009 for a very reasonable price. The Z4 is in a different class altogether. It is an upscale sports car to the S2000's affordable racer.

@AlexanderBlueAvenue however, i saw a persons s2000 with twin turbo chargers and intercooler installed, new engine headers, new exhaust headers and a nice haltech ecu system. i think it had a new transmission too. This installed costs way less than the cruddy bmw and the s2000 ran 10.5 sec quatermile. bet a gay bmw couldnt do that....

In response to Richard's Boxster "it's cheaper" comment, while it's true that it's cheaper, I've heard some drivers claim the drivability is easier. So, thus, the Boxster performs better than the 911 at a cheaper price which is why the 911 should be PHASED out while the Boxster/Cayman should be PROPED up to replace it.

I normally prefer more expensive cars from more upscale companies, but I have to agree with Jeremy here. Honda has proved that a 4-cylinder engine can be more powerful than the 6-cylinder engines in comparable sports cars (much in the same way Porsche has done with its 450 hp flat 6 from the GT3 RS). Factor in the cost savings and infallible reliability, and Honda has an easy win. I only wish they still built the S2000 (or a modern replacement).

I love the S2000 because its cheap its very reliable you don't get charged an arm and a leg when something breaks down like on a porsche or a BMW a lot of people would argue with me but im personally a honda fan but the way you look at it the S2000 comes out on top
