He's got the same thing standing to his right a few secs later, w/ a single cord dangling from it, which, in turn, goes straight into his headphones, as the movement of that cable suggests. DT's keyboarder creates his own monitor mix live (see "Images&Words" DVD), so Mike might be doing the same. As I said, it's just a guess.
its a mixer for recording the drums. the headphones that mike are wearing get sound through that, which is connected to the computer they are recording to.
