@JuhBlah, i agree with u about the new style dance in samba today not only the bounce is missing but also the Tick and the rhythm through out the complete body. and I think certain judges agree with us I think that's why u saw certain couples placed before other couple that u may like. the judges were looking for the purist.
i love the dancing in this video you could really see the professionalism and dedication of the participants, precision of the movements are well executed.
This is the first time that I have seen Melia in a dress that I like! She looks great!, sometimes her dresses just don't do her justice, all those puffy skirts, she has a great figure she should go for this look more often
Max Z. is so graceful, but he seems more like a show. He seems to come alive with this jive. Yulia is so neat and perfect , she needs to be more latin in order to beat Joanna. Joanna is amazing in this video. It was a real toss between Skuca and Surkov, as they were superb with their ladies. Great music. Thanks for video.
Although keep in mind that in the UK they have a live band playing these to their specifications of the competition, so originals will sound far different!
I can remember "the bounce" danced in the samba, back in the mid and late 1970's. Boy, I was really glad that they rid of that dance action. I can't recall how many dancers messed up the timing. I knew of a very good amateur couple "champs" who just could not get the timing of the entire dance. It was bad, although without "the samba bounce", the dance needs characterization.
@seravi Just thought I would add... And you are correct in the fact the "BOUNCE" is in the knee. But Samba Bounce is created by the compression and straightening of both the knee and ankle of the leg supporting most of the weight of the body!
@seravi Just thought I would add... And you are correct in the fact the "BOUNCE" is in the knee. But Samba Bounce is created by the compression and straightening of both the knee and ankle of the leg supporting most of the weight of the body!
dude...every single one of the people good at latin ballroom dances can EASILY learn any dance like salsa,merengue,batchata,etc..they are so much easier...much less technique, you just have to learn some steps and shake your ass,no offence...i am a D class ballroom dancer and i still can learn how to do a salsa in maximum 3-4 hours...for the dances that i am doing i have been practicing for 5 years and i still suck compared to top class ballroom dancers...so it's the other way around
Although my heart will always have a soft spot for salsa (the first dance I learned after living in Puerto Rico for a bit) which I danced for years before trying ballroom, I TOTALLY agree that international style latin ballroom is much, much more difficult. There is a strict precision that is not required to dance salsa, due much to the fact that ballroom is syllabus based, whereas salsa and other social latin dances do not require.
With that said, people on these posts need to recognize AND ACCEPT the fact that yeah, International Style Latin Ballroom is not typically danced by many hispanics, and that's OK. Social latin dances (salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata, etc) and latin ballroom dances are not the same, so get over it. Respect them both... any good dancer will. They have different purposes, and typically different audiences. I dance salsa at the clubs and latin ballroom at the competitions, and it's good.
the day this people dance to a good Merengue Ripiado, or a good salsa, or Bachata I will believe you can call it Latin dance, until then that is not latin Dance. Go to a real Latino Club and see how we dance.
There people dance for visual picture, they use different techniques. There is so much small figures, every step has a secret to do it perfectly. All these people are incredible and strong,i personally believe that they crazy about dancing and can dance every dance, also i'm 100% sure that all of these finalists would dance 100x times better than your 'latinits' from club. For me to dance salsa or bachata in club is a piece of cake. And i didn't learn it as it comes from inside of every dancer.
Those dances you mentioned are the original inspirations, as well as influences from Africa, but these Dancesport (or, Sportdance in Europe) are highly-refined advanced versions. Much harder. They incorporate "merengue action" only better. It takes a lifetime to accomplish their techniques, and only a few hours in a club for yours.
Yes I know they are Originally inspirations from Africa. I know my Culture, I know my people, I know my roots, I know my music. Yes it is true this EuroDancers have fancy foot work, But is it the right one with this rythem? NO!
What are fak you talking about? It's not only footwork.. Emotion, charisma, connection, there are million things... I bet you don't know anything about dancing and trying to prove your sh1t. so go and dance in your club where ''all dancers are perfect''!1!
Escuse me.. But I'm kinda new to knowing these stuff but I'm loving it!! Can someone pliz tell me who these dancers n their partners are?? Who is the one in:
Black dress -
Red dress -
Brown dress(the one with long black ponytail) -
Brown dress with blue n white strips at side(the cute smallest dancer) -
White dress with black n white strips(Hair in a bun) -
I have no idea either. I'm a latin dancer myself, amateur of course, but I can't tell why he's the weakest. He seems to have good connection with the floor and he really knows how to present his partner who is very very good. Maybe its because he doesn't look as natural as his partner?
my coach actually told me that the secret here that most competitors forget is that though most of the audience are fixated on the lady 70% of the time the judges will be looking at the man as he is the one with the lead. I find this true actually as I usually end up looking at the guy's movement more. In max's case I think it was hard seeing that Yulia was such a great and clear dancer and he wasn't as clear as her but they do have this great musicality and connection to them
I'm not too sure of the names but did anyone notice the slight "meeting" between the women of couple no. 30 (Yulia, I think) and 4 (Katerina, I think) during the jive? They were both really cool and carried on. True Professionalism.
So unfortunate that Richardson (162) has retired a great man and such a great way of dancing! Well.... Now we got Rachael Heron & Ryan Mc Shane!!! Wahey! Gonna be amazin in Jan!!! Just u watch!
Of all the latin couples, i feel that andre skufca and katarina venturini don't get the respect they deserve. Ive always been a fan of this couple but come blackpool 2008, they better step it up because couples like Ricardo and yulia, the stokebroes, and sergei/agnieska are right on their heels.
very strong dancers...i wanna find more info about them...and not only about them but the others too like:DiFillipo,Vescovo, franova etc...if someone knows a site where i can find correct infos about them or interwievs pls contact me!thank u so much
I am really trying to get my head around sergey and melia's dancing, i think he's ok but melia, walking into fan in cha cha (1:02 secs) she is just so stiff.
To me Sergey is better than Michael Malitowski. Melinda is stiff, yeah, but she has personality and she carries herself very well. But what I don't understand at all is Max and Yulia. Neither of them is especially good and Max looks more like a quarter-final dancer at best.
I agree. Yulia is deserving of her place in the finals but errrmmm.....Max is leagues below the other men in the finals. Melia has a very different style from the other women and I think you either hate it or love it.

@mistykitten1 "Bounce" is in the knee. Now a day, the bounce has been absorbed into the hips, that's all. Bounce is still a Samba characteristic.
